  1. Hey MAVERICK, what state you in?? Is this for gaming?? If so I would change the vid card for a 6600gt, or whatever is the equivalent in ATI. Also have a look at AMD, they have some good stuff that is better suited to gaming. Otherwise its not bad, although I would get a better PSU than the one that comes with your case. oldwolf
  2. I must be old fashioned but I still prefer IE. I dont know why, but I dont like tabs either. I open everything in a new window whether Im using IE or FF.
  3. I voted VIA as I havent used anything else for so long, I haven't had any probs with this chipset. Ive read all the horror stories in the early days of people cursing VIA, and me sitting back thinking , I dont have this or that problem. But then again maybe I was lucky, coz I had to reformat about once a week after I broke something in windows, ,

  9. I got the Gamers Keyboard, and am more than happy with it. Had to get used to it not being on as much of an angle as the others, (almost flat), but overall I like it. Paid $100 australian for it. It works well in games....Fear, Quake, Farcry, UT, RTCW, Doom3, etc. The game pad adds a few extra keys you can use for various bits, I give it a 7/10. Still waiting for the Optimus though. oldwolf
  10. Same problem with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
  11. Where abouts in oz are you?? IN melb I use cpl.net, centrecom.com.au, and msy.com. Also have a look at staticice.com.au. I have been looking at 939boards with agp, and I have more or less decided on gigabyte K8NS-9 Ultra, and maybe the 3700+ with 1mb cache.
  12. I use optusnet, supposedly uncapped, ( ), 128k up. $65pm australian, (approx $48us).

  16. Sounds as if it is the CMOS battery is failing/has failed, if you have to reset the time/date all the time. Also sounds as if the fan heatsink on the CPU is failing, although if you stick a couple of drops of oil on the centre bearing spindle, and clean out the dust and crap build up, it may keep going for a bit longer. BUT..... I would reccomend you get a new HSF ASAP, as you dont want the CPU dying on you, do you????
  17. Do you have your motherboard manual handy? (printed or on CD?) It will tell you what you need. What motherboard are you using??? If it is SD Ram, is it PC 66, PC 100, PC 133?? (SD Ram is also very expensive these days, (at least here in OZ it is)). As I dont know what country you are in it is hard to suggest a retailer for you. Any more info would be welcomed. oldwolf

  20. In an explorer window, choose tools, folder options, view, and, (on mine) 3rd from the bottom in the scroll list, show ntfs compressed or encrypted files in colour. oldwolf My bad, was thinking of something else entirely. It should be this:-- Windows XP has many handy little features that are supposed to make it easier to use, and many people appreciate them. However, sometimes the features can be just annoying. One such feature is the highlighting of newly installed programs on the Start Menu. By default, when you install a new application, the newly created Start Menu icons will show up in a different color until the are clicked on, and a little bubble will pop up when you open the Start Menu also informing you that something new has been installed. You can turn this feature off pretty easily if you grow tired of it. Simply Right-click the Start button, and choose Properties. Then click the Customize button, and click the Advanced tab. One of the first couple things at the top of that tab you should see is a check box next to "Highlight newly installed programs." Simply uncheck that box (by clicking on it) and click OK and OK, and this feature will be turned off. If you decide you want it back on someday, simply check the box again. (thanks to google) hope this helps
