  4. home edition (pro has all this): cant join domain supports only simple file sharing (no ntfs/print permissions) no dynamic disks no EFS only 1 cpu (pro can use 2) no IIS no remote desktop no support for RIS as far as MCE, is it supposed to intergrate well with home entertainment systems whatever that means. from what ive seen its basically the same as home edition with a alot of extra themes and colors
  5. try searching registry for that string maybe? i found a reference to it here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache name of: @shell32.dll,-31289 value: Set as desktop background
  6. http://www.microsoft.com/oem/default.mspx
  7. BitLord is what i use, great speed, never a problem. basically BitComet without that big list of links in the left pane. the ability to select which files (out of a multi-file torrent) to download is a necessity i think for any good client.. i havent seen that in many of the clients ive tested
  8. RegSeeker at http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm is imho a much better cleaner than any of these listed, completely free too
  9. count the beeps, how many? so you see nothing at all on screen not even post screen? monitor connected properly?
  10. rofl timeless! nimda dont use it if you dont want to
  11. try entering bios and look for 'fail-safe' settings. load those instead of 'optimized settings'. could be a number of things really, do you still have warranty? how old is the computer?
  12. these client machine lose all lan functionality? can they access internet? are you using dhcp/dns servers?
  13. any nt earlier than 2k is pretty troublesome, id say youll have no problems with 2k - as atomizer said use nlite to strip out stuff you dont need. check out http://www.blackviper.com to read about different services you can turn off to save memory
  14. possibly a defrag needed? maybe a new buggy driver?
  15. some more info.. what kind of xp install, nlited? these are latest drivers from your manufacturer? did you try windows update? hardware installed properly?
  16. dont know of anything like that, but there is gui front-end somewhere on this forum http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=23751&st=0
  17. great looking logo. we can easily use Regmon to see what reg entries are created/accessed
  18. then maybe its an MZ executable and is a DOS based game
  19. yea gotta keep moving on though always be ups and downs. no prob on PD im been messing around with it alot.. why cant you get it to run? getting any error messages?
  20. gdogg, did a compare of perfectdisk.exe to pdsched.exe and found they use pretty much the same ones. pdsched.exe uses almost all perfectdisk.exe does plus these: winsta.dll - winstation library ws2_32.dll - windows socket 2.0 32bit ws2help.dll - windows socket 2.0 helper for winnt wtsapi32.dll - windows terminal server sdk api (maybe something to do with terminal services service?)
  21. agree with nepali, maybe also faulty driver. install any new hardware lately?
  22. could be power supply failing too, check voltages in bios. sounds like ram or heating issue though
  23. you have a regular xp installed or one that was nlited? (may have removed 16bit support) also application layer gateway service must be running for certain 16bit apps. might just be corrupted as davor suggested
