  1. Seems to me like a little bit refreshed V5, has anybody got office updates or other things there than just before upgrading?
  2. EXACTLY, what I wanted to say. AFAIK, there are two kernels used by Microsoft, the DOS and the NT-Kernel, with modifications, so if M$ would take DOS kernel, they are very stupid!!! So whatever comes, it will be based on UNIX in fact.
  3. The userfriendliness is different from person to person, someone finds it userfriendly to have only important settings available per default, others want it to have fully costumizable, without patching, without editing Registry, and the second point is the main reason I use Linux, 100% costumizablity.
  4. What do you want to buy next? Are you tired of Viruses and Spywares? Want you move to AMD 64 and use NX? Or do you want to go for an Apple? I for myself want to have a Powerbook for daily usage and a AMD 64 Desktop for gaming and experimental work.
  5. I got Beta 2 at an exibition in Basel, and I downloaded it as Express Editions before.
  6. Hmm Linux is a big word, so it's hard to say, for windows users, Linspire would be a good recommendation.
  7. But do you really think, they build so good-looking effects, just for fun? Everyone wants to have these effects and go to buy a new PC. Lets see what Longhorn brings, 'till now I say: NO! Longhorn won't find it's way onto my HD!
  8. That's what I wanted to say, its not 9x - NT - Longhorn, Longhorn is NT based, and the major improvements are pointed out, i.e. WinFS. It's just again a product to pull everyone to buy new PCs, and this capitalistic action I won't follow...
  9. Which Edition can I take for converting, do they only vary on Server Components or is there a difference "under the hood" ? I first try it and then buy a licence, it's on the ground to be illegal, but if I can try W2k3 Enterprise for free (180 Days) Microsoft shouldn't hurt me if I try another Edition. I have available: Windows Server 2003 Standard Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Windows Server 2003 Small Business Edition Which one to take?
  10. Oh that's my personal opinion, if something is opensource, I have respect, what the programmers have done in their spare time, and I can be very sure, that there are many people, fixing problems and so. I'm just a fan of Opensource, but I can understand your point.
  11. There's also a tool named FireTune. I like Firefox, because it's open-source, I'm using Windows only to see my mathematical Word-Documents from my Teacher correctly, as soon as OOo 2.0 releases, I will change to Linux, completely. leaving Windows running on a VM or Wine... I also wait to aMSN to get better, it's on a good way. I hear many people saying Opera is better, but the fact, that it's not Opensource make the Software look bad to me, especially, because Opera costs some bucks to be legaly without banners. It's full featured, that makes it IMO very bloated, however respect to the programmers, making it so small.
  12. Ok thanks, checking device drivers and then lets move!!!
  13. Hello I'm planing to upgrade to 2003 Server on my notebook, but can I use hibernation? That stuff costs many $, £, €, CHFs, whatever you want, but it would be a waste if it cannot hibernate. I read through the guide, couldn't find a Power Management Section Thanks in advance Jeeva
  14. Ok, but for laptop users, that's no option, no hibernation, no powermanagement, no device drivers etc.... or can you enable these functions? Longhorn is not a revolution, it uses an updated W2k3 NT-Kernel.

The orange color is good, now can you move "XP" a little bit up, that means more left and smaller, the original XP is also smaller and at the top edge of Windows.
  16. Again, please read Post #30, it's very important to know, I have heard, that XP is sooo good, but now I need help for compatibility issues. Don't take it personally, but from now on, I don't need a "upgrade to XP" or "downgrade to 98", I need a "Go to <Homepage> there you find something concerning your TV-Card Problems." However thank you so far.
  17. @soulin Thanks for the tip @albator Please read Post #30

    BETA testing

I am, but I've only got a survey for Windows 2003 R2 but never get any other offers, nor a copy of Windows 2003 R2, so it isn't worth.
  19. Hello Thanks for your opinions and sorry, that I didn't reply so far. To update you, I have replaced my whole system, the P3 made it to the cellar now a 900 MHz Athlon with 256 Megs of RAM is here, no integrated s... as mentioned in one of the past post, a GF 2 GTS and Creative Live! is in there, 40 GB Harddisk now with 98 but also on the way to XP, I know this machine is eqipped with enough ressources to run XP, but I need my TV card to work, it's a Hauppauge WinTV Theater, there are drivers, but nothing seems to work, as I cannot get Overlay Support, because it needs direct access to the Hardware. Anyone knows something about it? However, the second question, can I stream better with XP? A performance question, I tried with Windows Media Encoder 7.1 on 98 to stream live TV to the net so I can watch TV over Wireless LAN with my notebook, but I cannot reach the TV resolution of 768x576 pixels without serious pauses and stops. With XP I can use WME 9.0, so has somebody experience with that? If I can either watch TV with Full Screen or if I can stream, then I'm ready to move over. Thanks to all Good comunity. Jeeva

I noticed, that sometimes the monitors looks old school sometimes new, it's very strange with that.
  21. I've never seen that, what does it contain? Visio and Project?
  22. That doesn't work like that, you must have Office in English and then buy the Multi-Language- Interface Package, then you have 8 CDs full of Languages, but thats pretty expensive. The new OpenOffice 2.0 Beta supports Language Packs, which are small and freely available, to all, it's worth to look at it, an MS Office user doesn't see much difference in Handling but in purse :-)
  23. Arial Narrow Special C1 looks very similar.
