  1. unfortunately not yet german'ized
  2. Link doesn't work (at least for me), there's a little Case-Sensitive Mistake, here is the corrected one. BTS DriverPack Has anybody else got a 404 with the link Bashrat provided?
  3. Thank you! So I'll make backups and wipe the HD and install XP, I don't like old garbage that you have if you update and the old software. I was in doubt because everyone told me, that XP on PCs lower than 600 MHz is annoying and it isn't fun working on so old Hardware. You helped me so much. Jeeva
  4. Hello I have a Pentium III 533 MHz with 192 MB RAM and 30 GB HD and wanted to ask if I should upgrade to XP or leave Me on it, I have several Programs that only work on XP on the other side WinTV works better on Me, because of a stability problem of 9x/ME the direct access of Hardware. The other advantage of staying on Me is the very fast startup <10 Seconds and Shutdown <3 Seconds. Do you know any other good ideas to stay on ME or to move to XP. It isn't my primary computer, just my TV and old games PC. Other tasks are made with my Centrino Notebook. Thanks for your thoughts in advance. Jeeva
  5. Yes and the first Link is for older easier to build PCs, Pentium 4 PCs have much more connectors, Front USB, Heatsink, Front Audio, differing backpane etc... I had 4 hours to build a P4 and 30 Minutes to Build a P3 and I can say, that I'm practised, but I heard, that Intel www.intel.com has released a Flash animation of that. Check this out: http://developer.intel.com/personal/build/index.htm And yes it is an advertising of Pentium 4.
  6. Yeah, the call center of the company I work for still uses win311, that is 11 years old, so it's not suprising if somebody uses win98.
  7. Hi My name is Jeeva, I'm living in Switzerland and like to talk with constructive ideas about everything, so I'll try to show my opinion and like to see the opinion of the others. One thing is, that I'm not a perfect english writer, so excuse me, as you might think, I speak german. That's all for now. Regards Jeeva
  8. Win95 was sleek, fast and flexible, what do you want more? it's free of unneded Software like IE or WMP.
  9. no UNIX-Desktops are NOT open source, LINUX is open source, or have you ever seen the source code of Solaris. NT/2000/XP is AFAIK also based on UNIX technologies so I'm not surprised. I hope I don't need to explain you why open source software is much more secure than closed source, have I? Ok, well open source software can be fixed by everyone so everybody can fix the problems, where Microsoft has max. 100 people knowing the code and fix them while developing on Longhorn.
  10. I recommend you to install Longhorn onto a Virtual PC, there are no drivers available for other hardware.
  11. I think it's a Protection Error, after that my old pcs show the "It's now safe to turn off the Computer" screen, on newer systems the PCs does that automatically.
  12. I think ME has only minimal Changes (Movie Maker, System Restore and disabled DOS as Major Changes) but for most users these are unneded things, System Restore restores Viruses and need to be disabled, and note that WinME uses 550 MB if you delete C:\Windows\Options\Install then you still need ~220 MB, Win98 uses 150 MB by default. My P-III 533 MHz with 192 MB RAM and 30 GB HD starts up in <10sec 98se, I'm unsure about upgrading to XP and expense money for it. On the other side: one of the pros of Me is to split the Registry to System, User and Classes and i'm sure that makes the start faster, not the disabled Dos. Of course only if you don't have real-mode drivers in 98 which you don't have in ME. For myself I had severe trouble with ME, sometimes the desktop doesn't start after start-up, Blue Screens etc. The best OS was 95 unfortunately you cannot use new Software on it. it was sleek and very fast.
  13. I close everything and do a cleanup before defragging. BTW replace defrag.exe from Win98se with that one from ME if you have FAT32 you have noticeable performance speedups.
