  1. Hello Valter, What you are describing is exactly what a WSUS server does. You download the hotfixes/patches once, aprove them and then order the client machines to download from that same server instead of the Windows Update website. Have you looked at WSUS? If it doesn't satisfy your needs, you can also install Apache on a machine and make the clients download (manually) from there. I'm pretty sure he wants help, otherwise he wouldn't ask for it. + Information on WSUS [Thread moved to Windows NT/2000/2003]
  2. Have you checked the ones listed on the F/OSS thread?
  3. Hi, You can start by reading the unattended page. Most of the information you need is there. Report back to the forums for help. Welcome to MSFN!
  4. Hi Welcome to MSFN!
  5. The PC is configured to 192.168.0.1/24? You mean that the PC was assigned that IP address, correct? Try setting the Macintosh to use the same IP range - 192.168.0.3/24 (=255.255.255.0)
  6. Yes. Computer-to-Computer is considered ad-hoc. With those settings, you can't connect to the PC and use the Internet connection?
  7. Yeah .. MSFN is ub3r 1337!
  8. Ok. The WLAN NIC is set up. Now let's worry about the Macintosh. First, *make sure* that the AirPort is running on ad-hoc mode (there should be an option for it) and double check if the TCP/IP Properties are set to obtain a IP address from a DHCP server (on the AirPort WLAN NIC). Report back when you have this done.
  9. I'm with them. Fix and add what the above members said and you will have a good OEMInfo Editor. If you need hosting for the application, let me know (PM).
  10. Enable ICS using the New Network Wizard - Set up a home or small office network - located at Network Connections.
  11. Hello and Welcome to MSFN!
  12. Let's try do this by phases: Phase #1: Share the Internet Connection using ICS. To make sure you are doing this the right way, share the Internet connection with a NIC (wired ethernet card). If that works, report back here. Take care.
  13. Try GParted. Download the Live CD version, burn the .ISO to a CD and boot from it.
  14. You did the right thing!!
  15. I saw that coming ... The problem with certifications is that allot of people are into it. Most of them have 0 knowledge of what they're doing, still, use brain dumps and complete the exam. This is a terrible way of getting certified since it will only take value out of certifications. I saw a MCSE +S telling (and laughing about it), that when he got his first job he didn't know how to map a network drive! If I got the *top* Microsoft certification under my belt and couldn't map a network drive, I WOULD NOT BE LAUGHING! Off course that employers prefer to hire a guy who does not have a Microsoft certificate and is able to do the job then this MCSE +S. Certifications, used in a proper way, are a 'tool' that enables us to show other people that we know what we are doing. If that tool is misused, everyone [who is certified] will lose with it. There will not be a solution to this problem. Certifications will get harder and harder every time and brain dumps will continue to be used like study material. Simulation on a exam are a way of fighting that, however, I'm not a big fan of that. There may be X ways of doing something, but most simulations only count 1 as the correct.
  16. I'm old-fashioned when it comes to this kind of things. I consider it inappropriate.
  17. mgadallah, please don't bump after 30 minutes. Keep in mind that visitors count to the thread view number.
  18. One site I always recommend is MCMCSE.com You have Study Guides, FAQ, Forum and Exam Simulations. If you plan on doing Security+, I suggest you take a look at MCMCSE.com in a week or two. I'm currently renewing the exam simulator. Good luck on your exam and remember ... Don't use braindumps!
  19. You can try Hamachi, however, I don't know if it supports Windows 98 (try searching in the forums).
  20. Use a batch file. It runs after the installations are done and you can code it to delete everything you don't want/need (including the Spybot shortcut). It's not as clean as not having the icon there in the first place, however, I'm sure you will find other shortcuts/files/folders you don't want and then the batch file will be useful.
  21. As long as you have the 169.254.X.Y IP address, it won't work. APIPA is used when everything else fails, even tho it is supposed to make a network connection work, I don't trust it. You have that IP address on the computer running ICS? Make sure you are sharing the Internet connection with just the USB adapter. By default Windows shares with all NICs it can find. Are you sure the USB is on Ad-Hoc mode? I don't know why it isn't working, however, the method used to share the Internet connection is not the best one to troubleshoot. (Internet - computer - USB pen - MAC) I think you would be better buying a wireless router and sharing the Internet connection with it, or even use a ADSL modem with wireless router built-in. I know this is not helping, however, I have no idea on how to fix your problem. This is one of those problems that you actually have to be there to get 'hands-on'. I had a computer just for ICS for a long time. I finally bought a SMC ADSL Barricade II Modem and it has been working like a charm ever since. It's allot easyer than having a box running ICS and it is not that expensive.
