  1. Try optimizing your cache settings. That's where Opera excels in.
  2. AFAIK all you need to do is run Windows Backup and extract to a folder.

I really don't see why there is such an effort trying to get EXT3 working on Windows. It doesn't really provide drastic improvement over NTFS or even FAT32. The only file system I'm interested in is XFS for its ability to prevent fragmentation, which even as a sole benefit, is still quite useful.

Great! The only thing really to test is application dependency files. I'll need this done for common applications such Word and Firefox. It'll pop up a warning tell you a specific file can't be found and after that, you should copy over the missing file. Keep doing this until you have the application working. You can find information regarding how to start testing on the first post. And thanks for offering your time !
  6. Has anyone attempted it? Any good links found on the subject? Or is it possible to convert a .NET application to Win32 native without the source code?

No I haven't, but once I did come upon an XFS driver for Windows, but unfortunately they were still working on the project at that time. It is likely that they are finished with it now, but I can't find the link to the site anymore . If anyone does find it, let me know, as an XFS driver for Windows would mean no more defragging.
  8. Yes, the previous script-based install wasn't as efficient as image-based.
  9. Vista will be faster than XP, due to new technology such as "fast-boot", and better memory management.
  10. Ok I admit I was too lazy too read all of the previous posts, but do themes work yet?

Search on the Microsoft site for devcon.

Your video card is not recognized, but is using a generic video driver. There is usually no need for the install of a real driver unless you play 3D games. Did you try devcon.exe? And thanks for getting the required files for Media Player .

So what files were they? And also there is a Microsoft command-line tool that allows driver management, not sure if it allows driver installs. The file is called devcon.exe. Do a search on MS for it.
  14. You might not want compression enabled as it increases read time for files.

Your system looks very nice . And thanks again for testing . Even if you do enable audio service, you will not be able to hear anything because the service is dependant on some files. I haven't been able to test what files are needed since I have no speakers, but your best bet is to enable the correct services using Recovery Console, then copy audiosrv.dll. As for your Media Player problem, I think you are missing codecs, which are the *.acm files. Copy those over and see if it works.

Thank you patrick. Can you also confirm if it's just vga.dll or all of the vga*.dll.

Longhorn Core Server is similar to this, but includes command-line tools to administer servers. If you like this design, just use cmd.exe as your shell. A commit charge of ~30MB is average for the Server edition, but with some file modifications, you can minimize XP with the file list, and consume only 20MB. If you want 32-bit colors and high resolution, like I have in my screenshot, you will have to install the graphics driver beforehand. Or you can copy over the generic display drivers, which I think are: vga*.dll framebuf.dll ^Can anyone confirm for me if these files are it? If you do have an NVIDIA graphics card, you can try nvidiabeta.zip, but you still need to install the NVIDIA graphics drivers beforehand.
  18. Brilliant! Not exactly what I was looking for, but a few modifications to this idea... !

The screenshot shows my system with a beta Nvidia driver, 77.79 I think. It's likely not beta anymore. Can't remember, but I think the driver itself takes up ~20MB of memory.
  20. I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear, but I meant doing this without 3rd party software?
  21. I need another way to run batch files without the scheduler service.
  22. How do you do it?

    hal .dll

Different systems have different hardware, which in turn means different driver needs.

This project is not dead, but a resource for the technologically advanced to further minimize their install. In other words, I don't plan to provide support most of the time... @thepunisher Check your PMs.
  25. No it doesn't. The weird characters aren't even suppose to be my computer name. It usually says 127.0.0.1.
