How can you admit with no shame that your are using Ms office Portable OpenOffice.org or portable Abiword is the way to go. Is there any reason I should ? Sure Office needs some improvements here and there, but it is the de facto standard of the industry.
  4. Not sure if the new Bliss is really from Microsoft, but Activewin is a reliable source, so I'm assuming so.

  6. No, it's for Device Emulator, which I think emulates a Pocket PC.
  7. XFS doesn't fragment the hard drive, so you never will have to defragment except if the file you moved, copy, etc. is larger than the amount of memory you have.
  8. I don't trust the site either...never heard of it...And also I think someone tried to cap Gmail's limit, only to find that it goes beyond the 2.5GB offered. The way these offers work is that the email provider doesn't actually have all this storage, they just offer it assuming, correctly, that the user won't use all of the space.
  9. The Virtual Machine Network Driver allows the Device emulator's OS (or even the Virtual PC OS, as the case may be) to emulate its own network connection. Since the physical network interface on the host machine is now "virtualized", you have a way to get two IP Addresses - one for the host PC, and one for the operating system that is running within the Device Emulator (or Virtual PC). Device Emulator users using the VMNet Driver can connect to the host machine over TCP or UDP as the alternative to the standard "Activesync over DMA" solution. 10. From what I've heard, WDS is faster than any of the offerings from Apple or Google. WDS is also tightly integrated with Windows Explorer, which is an advantage and disadvantage. Those of us who don't use the Explorer shell will find it a major annoyance. I personally prefer if they would just create a separate search application instead of opening an Explorer window.
  11. No need for a triple post!
  12. Read my guide : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=61107
  13. This is a simple guide for removing SFC. The advantage of removing instead of patching it is that you save a few KBs and also you don't need any fancy tools. Here's how: 1. Open up C:\Windows\System32 where C:\ is your Windows drive 2. Find sfc.dll and sfc_os.dll 3. Rename the files to sfc.bak and sfc_os.bak 4. Restart your computer 5. Repeat step 1, then delete the folder dllcache and the files sfc.bak and sfc_os.bak
  14. Yes, as many as half of the system files have icon resources. I think user32.dll contains some...
  15. Windows XP Cleartype technology sometime results in jaggy-colored edges on text, which OS-X fixes with its Strong font smoothing. I'd be very grateful if someone could find a way to get this working for XP. Example: http://www.xvsxp.com/fonts/images/type-magnified.gif
  16. The latest version of Windows Desktop Search (WDS) is optimized with features that help the enterprise IT manager easily customize, deploy and manage the installation of desktop search across all users and computers in their organization. 18. I think he wants it from the command line.
  19. Poking around the Windows Vista newsgroups, I saw that Microsoft is scheduled to release the November Community Technology Preview (CTP) of Windows Vista on the 18th. Microsoft has been progressing nicely with the new operating system and I'm sure that Build 5259 will build on the solid foundation of the two previous CTP releases. 20. I believe they do . I think what you mean are processes? A single processor, unless it has HT Technology or is dual-core, can only have a single thread.
  21. I believe the FX is going dual-core to support the future games that will use two threads.
  22. Well hope you find a solution soon, because the longer your CPU is exposed to such high temperatures, the earlier it'll pass away.
  23. Or you could get 7800GT SLI...
  24. Application Verifier is a runtime verification tool for unmanaged code that assists in quickly finding subtle programming errors that can be extremely difficult to identify with normal application testing. Application Verifier is designed specifically to detect and help debug memory corruptions and critical security vulnerabilities. It makes it easier to create reliable applications by monitoring an application's interaction with the Windows operating system, profiling its use of objects, the registry, the file system, and Win32 APIs (including heaps, handles, locks, and more). It also includes checks to predict how well the application will perform under Least-privileged User Account operation. Running Application Verifier is easy; simply turn on the tool then run your project and go through your normal testing scenarios. When your tests are completed, view the Application Verifier logs for any errors that may have been detected. Download: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en
