  1. I get this error as well. It tried to installed it on a computer that's part of a domain and it said this error message. Yes I am a full domain admin. I also tried it when logged onto the computer locally and it still came up with the same error. I'm not sure if the fact that the pc had the ms rollup pack installed made a difference. I'll try it later on my server at home and see what happens.
  2. wow that's great news I'll try it out tomorrow. keep up the good work Gurgelmeyer
  3. does your router have dhcp and dns enabled? if not you can either enable it or specify manual addresses. type ipconfig in a prompt to see if your two computers are getting addresses from the router ok.
  4. how about using your laptop as a remote access terminal so you can control your other computers from other parts of your house. Or maybe just use it for surfing. Hell, you could have it in your bathroom and check out msfn while having a crap
  5. Oil is an insulator not a conductor of electricity.
  6. It all depends on how many clients you want to connect to the file server and how important security is to you. Windows XP Home has a limit of up to 5 client shares at any one time, a sixth client will be denied access until another is logged off. Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP Pro have a limit of up to 10 client shares at any one time, an eleventh client will be denied access until another is logged off. Also there’s some good user rights management and security. Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003 can have large numbers of clients connected and features excellent user rights management and security. Now with regard to remote control, it all depends what your requirements are. If you merely want to manage your server then tightVNC will be fine. If however you want to actually use applications on your server for any length of time then I highly recommend Terminal Server. TS is a far more smoother experience.
  7. How about the ability to slipstream sp2.1 and 98se2me revolutions into the 98 cab files to make the ultimate disk?
  8. @Gurgelmeyer - I'm really looking forward to these new packs your making. You’re doing such a great job you’ll be a real asset to the windows 2000 community (especially after MS abandoned us). Many thanks for the time and effort you’ve put into this. - At0mic
  9. It could be down to any number of reasons. I had a problem at work with our corporate database. Normally the database takes around 5 seconds to open. However, a small group of computers took a few minutes and I tracked it down to a faulty switch which solved the problem after I replaced it.
  10. Those are signs of the famous Sasser worm virus with lsass.exe shutting down after being exploited. However, I’m unaware of Sasser affecting server 2003 so I’m a little confused here. Can you confirm you’re running 2003 and not 2000?
  11. Here's what I do: Setup the "info" mailbox: 1. create a user/mailbox called "info" 2. login to a workstation as "info" and open mailbox in outlook 3. right click on the mailbox and select permissions. Add your users. I normally make them all owners. 4. repeat step 3 for inbox, outbox, sent, drafts etc. Add "info" mailbox to your users outlook To do this just do what your link tells you to do in the second section
  12. Yeah my 68030 25MHz rocked!
  13. Excellent I can update all the servers at work tomorrow.
  14. I use my left thumb and I'm left handed. I actually had to type something to find that out. I expected it to be the right thumb but was pleasantly surprised to find out I use my left thumb for spaces.
  15. Depends how you define the term "new". Would you call XP new or would you say its a revamped version of 2000?
  16. Go to local policy settings, user rights assignment and give backup operators access to "Load and unload device drivers". As default, only Administrators can do this.
  17. Excellent work Gurgelmeyer that’s great news! Will it be compatible with nlite? What happens if your pack is installed on a machine that already has some hotfixes installed? Will your pack removed the Add/Remove entries of any existing hotfixes? Keep up the good work
  18. Blackcomb started off as the next release of Windows to replace XP (Whistler). However, in 2001 Microsoft vice president Jim Allchin annouced that Microsoft would ship Longhorn as an interim release before Blackcomb comes out.
  19. and I might buy Windows 98 when it comes out
  20. We do actually have a forum called "Microsoft Office 2000/2002/2003/XP". The "Introduce Yourself!" forum is ideally for people to introduce themselfs.
  21. Microsoft Update Rollup Pack. Its what we're all waiting for so Gurgelmeyer can finnish his unofficial version.
  22. I'm hoping the MS URP will be out tomorrow on the third tuesday.
  23. when you say "compatible with Windows" do you mean an OS that can run Windows software? If so then you could give ReactOS a try. It can run some windows software. You could also try Linux with Wine which can run some windows software. Dont expect much though. If you need to use Windows software, then Windows is the only answer.
  24. to answer your question, yes. However, it's illegal and its not only a violation against Microsoft and the software your trying to install but its also a violation against the forum rules here at MSFN. Anyway, why bother? 2003 is a server OS and should only be used for server apps. Why dont you just use XP?
  25. Make sure you are using the latest version of media player 10 and not a beta. download the very latest drivers for ALL your hardware.
