I’m using windows 2000 server. Is it possible to successfully restore a backup older than 60 days of the active directory “system state” made using the Microsoft backup program? I understand that there’s a 60 day limit to which you can restore to due to the tombstones of previously deleted objects. However, I’m thinking about putting the clock back on the server by about 6 months before restoring and then slowly putting it forward a month at a time. There aren’t any other servers in the AD of the backup so there shouldn’t be any complications in that respect. I will then add more servers to the domain afterwards. Does anybody know if this is a fool-proof plan? Thanks

Are you trying to join two domains? If so, you could set up a trust between the two in AD domains and trusts.

Don't understand this nit comment...Firefox has it's own troubles and why tell a newbie to use it if he/she doesn't even understand temp internet files? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok sorry your right. I just meant it as a last resort. If Jotho doesn't have any luck with fixing IE, then firefox would be a way to at least get the internet working on his PC. My "proper browser" statement was intended as a pun. I use IE6 myself.

Glowy, I'm fully aware he's probably got more important things to do. But there's also a chance that I filled in the email incorrectly. I'm was just asking Koros if he's received his yet so I know whether or not to redo and resend my email. I suppose I could have asked Koros through PM. I didn’t want to just resend the email just like that because Green Machine probably gets enough emails each day (I know what that's like because I work in IT support).

That happened to me as well once. Re-read the instructions and make sure you did everything right.

I dont understand what your asking here. Please can you explain the question more clearly? Do you want them to see a different webpage than the default?

I've integrated IE6 and installed windows. IE works but the 'about' box says I've got version 5, even though it looks like a version 6 style box. Outlook express 6 works and the 'about' box correctly says version 6. I edited the files you said to edit and put them in the fix folder, hower, I didn't do SYSSETUP.IN_ becasue it caused nlite to hang when I was making the ISO so I left that file out of the fix folder. Is this the reson why IE6 said version 5?

Thats kind of strange to only get the external address like that. Then again, I've never connected in that way. Why cant you just set up a normal VPN connection? Thats what I do if I have to carry out maintenance on the network at work. By the way, your screen shot is so anoying at 1.37Mb. Couldn't you convert to JPG?

I do agree that the instructions could be a bit clearer. For example, it says: E) PLACE THE 4 INF FILES INTO THIS FOLDER Its not obvious which folder your talking about. I had to re-read those instuctions before realizing what you meant. Maybe it could say the following: E) PLACE THE 4 INF FILES INTO THE HFINFS FOLDER By the way, what does the POST SERVICE PACK INF FILE do? It's a great script by the way - this thread should be a sticky. It seems to be the only way of integrating IE6. XPCreate only seems to run the IE6 installer during installation as apposed to properly integrating it like this does.

No I've sent two requests by mail so far. Havn't heard anything. Been waiting for 8 days now. I really want to try out XPCreate it looks like a really nice program.

I need an instant messaging server/client solution for a network. I’ve been using the Exchange 2000 Instant Messenger service with Messenger on the clients but it’s a pig to administer. It has a tendency to fall over after while so I have to keep repairing it. Now more! I’ve been after an alternative to the exchange route. I’ve tried OnDo SIP server with MSN Messenger but OnDo has issues with MSN and it doesn’t work properly (yet?). I can start a MSN whiteboard session but not normal instant messaging. Anyway, does anyone know of a good solution we can use? I found a freeware IM program which uses the NETSEND function but its obviously very limited. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks

thats unfortunate because I'm using 2000

I looked into this a few weeks ago because our boss requested that everyone has a disclaimer. First I tried using a reg file like you mentioned but I couldn't get it to work. Please let me know if you have any success with this. I also searched the net but the only answer seemed to be with the use of 3rd party software like adon said. Most of which you have to pay for I dont fancy manually setting up all 110 employees outlook myself so I'm hoping somebody here will post an answer.
