Oleg II, I don't have any probs with intel installs. (always the VIA and AMD that are the pain). I like hfslip, but prefer to keep some mods my own way. I can add seperate mobo sets by using dif cabs, or leave off if I get squeezed for space. besides, I can update drivers sets if need be . btw: You gotta have the inf files avail outside the cab. I tried with them ONLY in a cab and the install played stupid. figures.

NEED HELP: AutoLogon not working
Electrician replied to zedox's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Prob 2: what app are you trying to start that needs dbgeng? If it is copied to the Hard Drive, it may need to be registered. prob2: I have no problem using autologon, a portion of my winnt.sif has this: (password changed to portect the innocent) [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword = "yadda" AutoLogon = Yes AutoLogonAccountCreation = Yes [identification] JoinWorkgroup=GROUPER [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes [userData] FullName="MainUser" -
Unattended replacing of "Default User" profile?
Electrician replied to worldzfree's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Possible? YES. The Default profile is finalized during T13 - - BEFORE runonceex takes over. Explanation: The default profile is copied to users.Default which is rather useless except as a record of what it was. when created. The current user during runonceex was the account used during logon (admin). Merge of reg then would work for only that account. AFTERWARD: Every new user gets a copy of the REAL default and then the All Users profile gets layered in with it to form the desktop the user sees. solution: You should create a reg file and incorporate it into HKCU either during svcpack.inf process or cmndlines.txt during T13 that is the same as the Default user profile. YOUR method of xcopy?? - a carte blanche replacement of the default profile-?? would not work for the 1st logon because that user account is already created by the time the copy is done. Another way is to modify the default hiv's in the source\i386 but that is a pain to keep track of and some things are dynamically created during install erregardless of what is in those. -
OK, I misunderstood. I thought you had a FAT boot partition. So which option do you choose? And if it see's your D: drive as D: drive, then the source loc isn't changing midway through... So lets start with the more obvious... Since the complaint is about the "[FILES]" section, it could be referring to the dosnet.inf file. Neither winnt.sif (if you use it) nor txtsetup.sif have a section with that title. Does it exist on your integrated install, how about when copied to the new D:drive? Open it in notepad and have a look. If every thing is good there, I doubt it would be damaged while being copied to the new C: drive during install. Step by step. btw, my own build is so tweaked that I doubt a MD5 chksum check would be worthwhile.

Thanks Dirtwarrior! I fell better knowing he hasn't slipped this mrtal coil.

Seems no one has heard from you. You have mentioned medical problems in the past. If you are where you can read this, I hope you are resting and NOT ill! I will ask the great spirit to look over you! (Don't get your hopes up - I am an just an old geek and not on the best terms with the 'big guy') Anyone KNOW?

rehack, I could be wrong, but I think windows setup will reformat C:drive to NTFS and assign it a new drive letter before copying its folder over to boot drive $win_nt$.~ before rebooting. You need to get a look at the winnt.inf that is copied to the boot drive. Also, do you spec the source file loc with the winnt command?

guirunonce is must for msi files and stuff that needs gui, but inf's run at T13 and get installed in default profile. guirunonce is current user (who logged on at end of install).

Or one (or more) the many nasty spyware P.O.S. that are going round. Have you been a good monkey, and kept your system updated?

[Question] - how to transform a user profile to to use by another acco
Electrician replied to chee's topic in Windows XP
Since you can't copy a profile that is in use, you FIRST need to create a THIRD user account with admin privledges. Setup the chee account just as you want the final admin account to look. This process is usualy done for reg user profiles - since the copy to will be wiped out - make a restore point before you do this. Logon as the new (3rd user), unhide system foldres, etc in explorer. Start system tool in control panel, advanced tab, user profiles, then select copy to... See M$oft article Q321281 to fix the Desktop.ini file. OR to use the command line... Download the copyprofile tool from M$oft: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en After extracting the tool run: copyprofile chee "c:documents and settings\administrator" administrator AFTER you verify that the admin account works, while logged on as admin, delete the chee and 3rd user accounts. -
I don't think it has been tested - if you require foreign language support use the HFSLIP method. <Another topic on this great site!> You collect the patches, et.al. for the Windows ver (2k/xp/2k3) in your desired language and run it. The Hotstream method uses lots of patches not released to the public at large - and as Gurgelmeyer has said; THEY ARE FOR ENGLISH, so he didn't test with other versions of 2k. Future patches may not work unless you DL the English ver's but maybe you would be ok with that? SO build a system and give it a try. Let the rest of us know how it turns out!!! p.s. Good luck!

@oleg_II You suggest modding the inf files using HFDRF, but your script creates MYDRV. Also, your script needledly renames the compressed INF files to mydrvx. Or are you just renaming to keep track of the files added? Also, you include the inf files inside the cab file. Is there some case where they are needed, because normally, they won't be read from inside the cab?. (Or am I missing something?) None of the cab's included 'au natural' have the inf's inside. If naming the cab WAS enough, then I could move the inf's out of i386 to exist only in the cab. Would that work? Anyway, I used your idea/technique and a modinfied form of your script to build a version that has my intel driver files in a cab {they used to exist individually as compressed files in i386}. -inf's outside- The darn thing is 11MB 11.3 counting the inf files. Works like a charm!

@gurgelmeyer So, if the "haltcpu"/"overheat" bug is fixed by adding a reg entry to have W2k NOT treat an HT P4 like two cpu's, and I see that reg is placed after using USP5.1 THEN it would be emplied that the latest ver of the hal is being used. Correct? So WHY does M$ update and Windows update sites think it needs the urp? Not complaining, mind you. I can live with it. Just curious. ed 1/20/06 DOH! You already mentioned this in another post. But did you included the new filter driver (but not register it) in the USP 5.1 build? How do I check if it is there, and (un)registered?

Msconfig.zip The version of the EXE in your installer is 5.1.2600.0, the ver from my CD is 5.1.2600.2180 The only image missing (in fact the only 'image' I see used anywhere) when I open the chm on a w2k box, is the "Microsoft Windows Graphic". Further, your CHM is missing a whole topic; "Using the Help Viewer". Though it would really need to be the W2k version., anyway Minor dif's - but the file sizes are within a few bytes of being equal. So what is gained? 'Ripping' your idea - here is a win2k version which includes the correct ref to W2k help and a W2k logo*. *Has an XP logo with Windows 2000 pro name.

I could help you with the Intel portion. Using how-to advice from this site, I added Intel mobo support by putting the compressed form of the INF and Cat files in my souce i386 (about two month ago). Have been using the $oem$ folder for the rest (LAN/VID/AUD) but - again - Using advice from msfn, have put all that into an INTEL.cab (driver pack) along with the cats (meow). Mind this has not been tested except with one intel mobo - but has a lot of stuff in it. I use the same system for testing builds, but since that and the Dells we use all are Intel based..... When I get back from my 3-day, I will verify it has the latest parts and post it here. ed 1/17/06, 1/18/06 Guess not - 11.6 MB zipped Tried RapidUpload.com Six atempts later still not working! DRAT! ed 1/22/06 Persistance wins. Download here: http://www12.rapidupload.com/d.php?file=dl&filepath=3893

@wildbill Well I must say, it looks rather nice! ALMOST enough to tempt me into the skinning thing. Once the skinning fans discover what you have done, I am sure they will beat a path to your files-door. Just not for me. But if you have time on your programming hands... XP things I would like to see in W2k... (function, not nes. xp parts) Unified regedit-regedt32 Restore of previous folders at logon. File version info on 'float over'

my two bits: (1 and 0) Tweakui / msconfig / 256 color tray / mobo INF's most def (ed: Reg entry to allow rt click for registering dll/ocx/ax files)Register_OcxAxDll.zip ASPI Layer, GRC ASPI ID tool http://www.grc.com/tip/id.htm MS RDP / Icon transparency / XP icons nice bonus (ed: M$ has a free wNTipcfg thats nice) 98 zip folders BLECH! I used to use IconLock, great and stable, but doesn't do multiscreen/multimonitor setups (DRAT!) ed> Found that M$ has one! Imagine that. A dll and a reg file, don't remeber where I found it, but can't find it via search of M$. http://users.rcn.com/taylotr/icon_restore.html And found a transparent text for desk-icon that is rather nice DeskColor v3.0... Addons are good - total replacements are bad. Some of us like the shell and don't give a flying rats a** about skins. Those things are best left to post-install or user-integrated builds. Like all the note-pad replacements - most of us (not all) prefer a different 'pad' but everyone has their own favorite (EditPad !!!).

Yes unlocker rocks!! Buggy? I have never experienced any bugs with it. HOWEVER, thanks for the reference to Unlocker. VERY nice. Beats the pantaloons off WhoLockMe. Hallaylooyah - I am a convert.
-
This may or may not be relevant, however... I have had this problem with a few XP systems, that had service packs integrated into the install Cd. Inserting the CD used to install from stopped the message from coming back. Since the same files would (??) be used - I have no clue WHY it worked. Proof in the pudding.
-
Follow the instructions on Dr Hoiby's site to make a patched version. Then just change the files after running gurg's SP. BTW His WhoLockMe is a fantastic tool. I add it a a part of my regular build disk.

Actually, you shouldn't run nlite twice. At least, with previous versions, if you run Nlite on a source that has already been Nlited' you get a mess. Look thru the old posts, I believe Gurgelmeyer has stated that IC was not meant to be slipstreamed - even with Nlite. You do not really need IE for updates, check out FDV's site, for info on this.
-
@TommyP, FDV, et. al Sorry, didn't mean to cast aspersians. I wasn't upset/offended/hurt. I WAS being sarcastic. I love you guys! The work you have been doing is not only valuable, but down right nifty! And (TommyP) I PROMISE I will use an updated cmd on my nxt build. btw: that weirdness with hang at T-9 after Nlite doesn't happen with an older version of nlite or with non-slipped source. Must be some odd interaction with my added tools ? Anywho, keep the faith!

Gee, I go away for a while and I get smeared! I didn't say I was missing sysoc. What I said (perhaps not clearly) was if it existed in an UNCOMPRESSED form in the source, then there would be two copies in sourceSS. The original uncompressed, and a new compressed one. The compressed one has only your added bit - and since it got used during the install (my uncompressed 'original' being ignored) the resulting install was weird. You are confusing it, perhaps, with my other issue which was "empty.txt" - but you already chastized me for using an OLD hfslip. Hey - I don't like to change scripts mid-stream. So Excuuuuuuuse me!
-
TommyP Just wanted to say I cleaned up the stuff in my HF and the slip for xp worked like a charm. WU did think I needed to install KB898461 - even though it was done in the slip. Another odd thing, when I Nlite a copy of the sourcess and try to install - it locks up at the T9 point. I will post there. while playing around with this I found a couple of anomilys. (ahem) 1. if the sysoc.inf exist instead of sysoc.in_ in sources - the result is both are in sourceSS and the ._ ver is empty except for slip stuff. The reult being that the xp install SEEMED to be working, but there was NO IE - just an icon on the desk. No Iexplore.exe anywhere on the drive. @fdv - if you get bonked on the head and start using XP this might be way to strip ie? 2. there is a file "empty.txt" in my source (and on every CD I looked at) that doesn't make it to sourcesss. I placed it in FIX just to avoid the error msg. ya - i am probably using an older script

Whoa! No such bannana. XP4? I hope that was a typo. As for the switches to integrate a SP - try the /? switch. If all you want to do is integrate a SP, why mess with nlite at all? If you are in ahurry, just install 2k and get him back to (school) work.
