  1. Please tell , the buit in adblock is updating lists in your case ? My aero isn't working too.
  2. There you have it ! You need ONLY 64 bit . I will share this direct link to ALL official Opera versions from their archive . https://get.geo.opera.com/pub/opera/desktop/ You just need to extract it with 7zip , replace the files in your portable version, no installation needed . And use that portable launcher. Everyone , notice he has Aero working with Opera...
  3. I didn't have any problems with "SP0" , except that it somehow limited some games in terms of video memory . I mean it did have that weird limit with newer games that needed more than 512mb of VRAM . I'm talking about both 32 and 64 bit . That was fixed in SP1 . As for the speed , I had superfetch and indexing disabled and everything was smooth (with SP or without), very similar to XP , I agree that XP (out of the box) could be faster in theory , I think it's because it had less unneeded services , but they can be disabled in Vista. The thing that really bothered me - freaking white folder background (which coudn't be changed by a simple user). What about you ? Edit : I too replaced Vista on my laptop for some time because I couldn't change the background . But I went for Win2000 Pro.
  4. Well , it is already enough to run Opera . Maybe if you have some spare time and don't mind adding just shell32 sooner , with this function added, I'll start testing Opera with my starter. It's no hurry , of course , I have plenty of others to test . Today I've tested latest Slimjet - working , of course with this flag.
  5. What's there to check out ? You've already done a marvellous thing ! One can make this flag permanent and use the browser with it forever . I think it's better to investigate what causes the locale problem with the extensions . Or , as I said earlier , figure out how to force everything to use English (block other locales) . I already added this flag to the starter (with ungoogled) quite some time ago. Oh , and extensions without locales will work (I checked with chromium 86). By the way , the new files are already in the mega folder ?
  6. You also forgot Toshiba ! This is my list of quality/compatibilty/preference PCs and laptops with Vista (I've had experince with each brand) 1. Siemens PC and laptops (later became just "Fujitsu") 2. Philips and Siemens monitors (I mean in the old days , good quality and brilliant picture) 3. Toshiba notebooks 4. Sony notebooks 5. Dell notebooks (Win2000 - Vista era only) and some of their expensive monitors with Samsung screen (from 2006 - 2007) Everything else ..... hmmmm .... nah ....
  7. Yep , you're right , Vista Home Premium ! I do not remember the exact model . Yes , it was HP Pavilion with a thin remote control . The temps were fine , esp. at idle , I remember I was playing Dungeon Siege 2 when it caught fire . I never had it overheated . It was standing on my table , the air conditiong was on. P.S. You see , the same as I was told "HP cheaped out on the cooler". I also had an HP printer which went bad after a year ! They lost a customer , I do not by anything from them since .
  8. Any idea why x86 systems don't have that problem with Haswell ? By the way , I'm not sure if you remeber , back in the day (I think in 2007 Vista already had the exact same black screen of death on some systems , they even had a patch , but it was deleted from servers. It had the SAME logon failure error. Some people wrote that the reason was the changed activation process , I do not know if that's true . I never had it with my Core Quad during that days. Take a look here : https://www.gfisk.com/windows-vista-logon-screen-of-death/
  9. Hello , really !?!? I think 512MB RAM is more like 2004 - 2005 , sorry if I'm mistaken , though . I'm from Europe . In 2007 we had 1gb DDR2 as a bare minimum even on cheap models. At our local stores most were 2GB and expensive ones - 4GB . I had Toshiba Satellite A50 with 512 of RAM in 2004 and it was NOT a gaming laptop , it was a budget model with Intel graphics and a tiny ATA HDD.
  10. Exactly , how could you ! xD
  11. After switching the famous "superfetch" off it was fantastic , fast , but not as fast as on Siemens , I think because Siemens used more advanced German HDDs , I even think they still in production labeled Fujitsu, yes. I mean Fujitsu HDDs , not some other 3rd party brands . I also think you should add Sony , they were good and also used Fujitsu HDDs (at least some of them) , they were expensive , I agree .
  12. Hi , I may have some news . Yesterday I was testing ALL Opera versions with the newest Kernel (by redirection) and the last that worked with extensions was 47 , 48 didn't say anything at all , but refused to instal the extensions due the known "locale" thingy (but launched anyway) . The most interesting part , starting from 49 it began to want "ResolveLocaleName not found in KERNEL32" , does that ring a bell ? See "LocaleName" , perhaps this is what used to identify the locale ? Also , any chance to add the missing to shell32 for newer Operas ? "SHAssocEnumHandlersForProtocolByApplication" and the other one.
  13. I have nothing against Dell , I had a Dell Vostro laptop with Vista x86 (sorry , don't remember the exact specs, it was in 2008 . Intel CPU (something Core Duo , 4GB RAM DDR2 , 250GB HDD) , But everything inside was NOT made by Dell . Also, I had several Dell monitors and not sure if Dell even made the enclosure . The main parts had Samsung label on them . I think you should definitely add Siemens to your list. The majority of Vista PCs in Europe were Siemens , most of them Made in Germany , using German technology and their own design and layout (unlike HP and many others). Their motherboards were also developed in Germany. It's so sad it's in the past , though I've read the Siemens PCs became just "Fujitsu" and still being produced in Germany from a high quality parts , I can't comment on this because I've never had them.
  14. I think so , yes. People need to be polite and read the rules , as far as I can see , the one who started the topic is responsible to keep the right content.
  15. Dear TECHGEEK , please moderate this topic and cleanse it from pollution regarding Vista vs. 7/10 stuff , or create a new one , for those that in such painful lust to compare , thank you.
  16. Yes , but in Vista they are gentle and nice , delicate .
  17. Hey , c'mon , I thought I'm not a gamer ! xD
  18. I have had a very sad experience with HP laptop in 2007 . In fact , I hate HP - it's utter junk in my opinion ! For those who are lazy to read , I'll make this short: I had bought a quite expensive laptop it was approx 1500 Euro in 2007 , let me remind about the inflation , it's like 2500 or so nowadays. It was an expensive gift from me to myself for my jubilee. So one could guess how I started to hate Hewlett - Packard when it literally caught fire , right after 1 year warranty , almost at my next birthday. Yes , that's right , it was burning , it's videochip to be precise . Nvidia 8600GT 512mb with fast (by that standards) DDR2 128bit memory . HP cheaped out on the cooling system , as I was told by repairmen . It was so expensive to repair it , so I decided to buy Siemens instead (made in Germany) and it was very good , fast and durable , with Vista , of course . Edit : Forgot to mention specs . DDR2 4gb RAM Nvidia 8600GT 512mb Intel Mobile CPU (don't remember the exact model , I think Core Duo , but it was fast enough) Two separate HDDs (each 250GB)
  19. Oh , it's no secret . Some of them are : Hellgate:London ( I like all those wonderful demons), Diablo II and it's addon , Sacred 1 (frequent) and 2 (rarely , I deleted it , it didn't entertain me enough to ever get back). I like the first one more , the 1st is kinda more realistic and bloody, there are programs that can make it run in full HD. Actually , I'm not a die hard gamer . Also, I played Road Redemption DX11, but on x64 system , deleted too , I think it needs more tracks in free game mode. But it's kinda reminded me of SEGA's Road Rash which I played in 1991. And what about you ?
  20. I don't know if I'm the only one , but Aero Snap , Aero shake , shadows under icons (yes , that thick (bold) ugly Win7 shadows , were the first things I disabled when I tested Win7 on my new laptop a decade ago (which ,sadly, came with it). Also , never pinned anything to my taskabar , I don't know why , perhaps it's just a habbit. Well , as it seems , I'm not the only one who wants this off , here's a guide (for true Vista lovers , which for some reason need Win7 for testing) how to disable it , you're welcome : https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3069-aero-snap-turn-off.html
  21. No fight was intended , you started this marvellous topic about Vista , suddenly there are people that say other (newer WIndows) are somewhat ok too . And this is said among us (!) , Vista die-hard fans . How can it be ? This has been discussed a million times , go to Win7/8/9/10/11/12 forum and discuss it there , besides going off-topic is simply not polite.
  22. Dear asdf2345 , I really appreciate your advice , but why would I wanna do that ? I see you are using Server 2008R2 , it's your choice and I respect it . But I use Windows Vista on all of my PCs. And this topic is about our pleasant experience with it. Please tell us about your experience with Vista.
  23. This topic slowly turns into Vista vs. 7 nonsense ...
  24. I open https://msfn.org/board/messenger/ , paste your profile link and it says "profile/424412-win32/ cannot receive messages".. Perhaps you have to write me first and I will reply.
  25. Your messages are closed . I'm not sure if I can write it in the open , perhaps it will be considered that I want to push that Chinese player , no ?
