That is a good link; I do not have many of those drivers so you should download that as well as mine. Bâshrat if you want I can upload the compressed driver pack to a friends FTP and let you leech it. Send me a PM and I will give you a link.

It is not even in beta yet! Do not install Longhorn if you expect to use it to replace XP because it is still in its early stages. I would love to test it out but I would not think it would be very good yet. Just get some knowledge of how it’s going to work. I think that would be interesting.

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2650 server that is acting very slowly and I suspect a hardware problem. Are there any tools that I can use run to do stress tests and such on the server to tell if there is any hardware problem? I would like to be able to test the hard drives the memory and espically the motherboard, the works. Anybody have any ideas?

The site is not bad at all. You can even use their FTP site and just leech all of them from there I'll bet. My upload spead is not a problem I can go mega fast upstream. I figured you had an FTP or some site I could upload them too. Most of my email clients will not accept files that big. Lemme see what I can do for you. No way to FTP them right?

This is a bogus question! It depends on what you want to use your machine for. If you need a server machine the best OS is Windows Server 2003. If you have a 64 bit machine I would go with XP 64. If you are going to have a normal workstation and purchasing windows and it’s a home user I would recommend XP home but if they want more security and such I would say XP pro. Each OS is good in its own way!!! I can’t vote on this.

There was a program I used to use back in college to run a Half Life server in the background as a process so the network admin would not find it and so if users logged into the machine the server would still be there. It worked GREAT! I had three half life servers running on some powerful workstations in college and they were always packed. The network admins hated me! Now I am the network admin and going after all the guys who used to be like me. Anyway check out http://www.firedaemon.com/ I think that will do exactly what you want

Let’s see how well I do with this. I am sure the people here will correct me if I am wrong. First, on the router turn off DHCP. Everything still plugs in thru the router though. Now on the server go to administrative tools - manage your server. Add a role and make it a DHCP server. That should work to get DHCP from your router onto your server. Are you trying to make a domain and have your machines log on thru your server onto a domain? If so you should setup a role as a domain controller which will put on active directory to create users ect. You can also make it a file server, print server, mail serve, ect. This is all done thru the administrative tools manage your server. Since your box is so slow I would be careful how many roles you give it though. That is a pretty weak box to use as a server regardless of what it is...

I was looking for a similar fix a while ago. I made some changes to the views to show me all the file extensions and stuff. What I did was find out where the reg keys were that it changes for example HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer and find out the keys. I exported the registry right before I made the changes and then again right after and did a file compare. I then made a .reg file with the changes I wanted and put it in the $oem folder. I added a command in the run once in winnt.sif that looks like REGEDIT /S %systemdrive%\install\Applications\register.reg. It has worked perfectlyfor me.

Try downloading a web-caching client. It will not really speed up your connection but it will seem like it will because it will cache all the webpages you goto locally so the next time you visit the page it comes up much quicker...

what if you set them static? Can you ping eachother if you tell them what IP to use?

I would go with XP as well, turn off all the pretty features, put it in classic mode and turn off un-needed services and go to the computer advanced propertied performance tab and tune for best performance
