I'm on the side of natural sciences - but also with some interest for human sciences, I don't support any kind of war between the two of them (the only exception is business studies / BWL ). As you may know notations in natural sciences are mainly based on Greek or Latin and in my opinion it's not a bad idea, else this would have been replaced decades ago. English and German are within the same language family (West Germanic languages) and therefor they are very near and it's really easy to adopt words and phrases. Both languages have many words with the same origin and you can often guess the meaning of a word you don't know yet. There are more similarities then with Romance languages. And yes, both took a lot of words and stuff from Latin and Greek because ancient Greece and the Roman Empire are the basis of today's Western world (including moral values and imperialism - two sides of the same coin). The world is a complex place and the more we interact globally, the more the (living) languages will change. Remind, there are also German words in English like kindergarten (not "children garden"), iceberg (not "ice mountain"), rucksack, Blitzkrieg (Metallica...) or Dollar (from German "Taler" -> Czech/Slovak/Slovenian "Tolar", see also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dollar#Etymology, BTW I'm also very interested in numismatics [including ancient Roman coins]). While speaking of coins... Did you know, it was common to write "IIII" instead of "IV" on coins in medieval times? Somewhere I read US English is just a collection of spelling mistakes*. Remind, the USA aren't "god's own country" - they were built up by people from some/many European countries centuries ago.     Oh yes, same here... Maaahhh...school...we aren't at school here. I think at school it's the same in UK or USA. This wasn't extreme, it was (and is) correct to not use abbreviations in continuous text which will be handed to a teacher. The debates about Anglicisms are pointless - where are the debates about Latinisms, Grecisms, Gallizisms or Hispanisms? Language of living people is a living, developing thing, else you ride a dead horse with dead people (Latin is the most famous example). The most people who are agitating against *isms (especially Anglicisms) are using *isms day by day themselves and name words/phrases *isms which aren't. Nevertheless it's important - I think - to cherish/cultivate a language (and dialect) - there are wonderful German (dialect) words and phrases which are seldomly used, for example. No kidding, there were at least two accs just reacting to "PH". kind regards soggi

    Did you notice? Just write "PH" and some members who never wrote in this thread leave a message... BTW Porn is still on of the the things which takes most internet traffic, no matter how prudish societies are... BTW I would really appreciate it, if the understanding of "pH" would increase - chemistry is a great and important subject. I had some semesters while studying chemical engineering back then. I wouldn't say "frowned upon"...maybe uncommon is more precise!? Sometimes I also abbreviate in German, especially when I'm writing and not talking - but yes, it's more common in English. Hell start's freezing? A cooperation would be great...but I don't believe until hell is frozen up! kind regards soggi

This is great! NM28 is my main browser, too - I switched from NM27 a couple of years ago <- Pale Moon 26 <- Firefox ESR 52. Once again a BIG thx to @roytam1 and all others! BTW what is that Base64 -> Encoder, an add-on? This would be cool for fast decoding Base64 encoded attacks to my website or other stuff like Base64 encoded files included in a HTML document. I don't have a dozen browsers installed...just IE6 SP3, NM27 and NM28 - and actually I'm only using NM28 and I'm very confident with it. Some times there are websites which don't work, but they aren't very important and I just say "F*ck you, I don't have to visit your JS overloaded, slow and incompatible hipster website!".     There is also the latest Firefox ESR installed on our Win7 machine, but it is slow in comparison to Pale Moon aaaand what is much more important: the GUIs of all the modern browsers simply suck - Pale Moon still has the old/complete GUI which is extremly important to me. kind regards soggi

    Personally, i would recommend to use the latest official Pale Moon on Win7, despite it doesn't support WinXP anymore. Furthermore - if XP support is important - I would recommend New Moon 28 or Serpent 52 over K-Meleon 76 as the latter shares it's basis with New Moon 27, which is behind the possibilities of NM28's basis. None of @roytam1's builds builds include an automatic update mechanism, you have to replace them with every release by hand. We will see how well they will age... It mostly depends on which websites are important for you. Does it really work? The last time I wanted to use a Pale Moon lang pack in New Moon I had no success. kind regards soggi

Maybe @roytam1 can tell what's the difference between Martok's and his version!? I got a blue dot with this version within the add-ons manager, which means it is for Pale Moon / New Moon and doesn't run in compatibility mode (orange dot). No...don't be sorry for the "noise"!     Be careful with such bogus UAs - they are blocked on some websites, because they are used by many bad bots. Below you can see a small snippet from my .htaccess, a regexp which blocks some unusual and bogus UAs.     Great! BTW once I followed you on Twitter but there was tooooo much anime stuff, so I unfollowed. Not for that, I'm glad to be a part of the (re)distribution of @roytam1's builds! All the browsers, e-mail clients and suites (except the x64 versions) should work flawlessly on WinXP SP2 - you (@johk) just have to have an eye on which SIMD extensions are required (non/SSE/SSE2)...aaaand if the CPU is supported in general (have a look at the FAQ, with a 686 [Intel Pentium Pro and AMD Athlon/Duron and higher] you should be safe). NM28 and Serpent 52 (maybe 55) should be the most compatible browsers, if I remember correctly. kind regards soggi

    No, this is not what I would do... So I would have two copies of the same profile(s) which diverge more and more in the future, if I would copy the NM28 profiles to NM27. Or...I would have to copy the profiles always when I want to use the other version - extremely inconvenient. An advanced warning would we good in case of the separation of the profiles would be a final intended decision. There is no other way to satisfy both sides, I think. So you have to change something in one line of four shortcuts (one time only, not every time you're using the other version) - this is much more easier then copying profiles whenever you want to use the other version (NM27/28). You also don't need any .bat to server your requirements. If you want to start NM27 with it's dedicated profile, click the NM27 shortcut - if you want to start NM28 with it's dedicated profile, click the NM28 shortcut. The issue @VistaLover mentioned didn't occur to me in the last years when I was using Nm27/28, as mentioned above - else I wouldn't suggest this method. In conclusion the "shortcut method" I described above is a good deal, I would think. OK, so OE Classic isn't a good replacement for Outlook Express... There are browsers for Win9x/NT4, actually: - K-Meleon 1.5.4 (2022/12/08) - RetroZilla 2.2 (2022/12/08) - RZ browser 2.2 (2022/12/08) "RetroZilla" is a suite (like SeaMonkey), "RZ browser" is just the browser. Of course, their engine (especially when it comes to JavaScript) is aged, but they support TLS 1.2. You don't have to use the same profile for NM27 and NM28, you only have the choice if you want to or not - and this is what counts because some like you don't and some like me want to. It doesn't matter if both share the same profiles.ini, you can have one profile for NM27 and one for NM28, f.e.: [General] StartWithLastProfile=1 [Profile0] Name=NM27 IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/12345678.NM27 [Profile1] Name=NM28 IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/abcdefgh.NM28 Now just create two shortcuts with the right targets and put them to your desktop / start menu / quick launch bar, f.e.: NM27's shortcut target: X:\..\NewMoon27\palemoon.exe -no-remote -p NM27 NM28's shortcut target: X:\..\NewMoon28\palemoon.exe -no-remote -p NM28 Note the two profiles named NM27 and NM28 - there is practically no chance to open the wrong profile by accident and you don't need the profile manager to start the right profile! Nothing offensive, I just want to help you to get these things sorted. I came into this profile stuff because I'm also hoarding a lot of tabs (hundreds in each profile) and sometimes need a fresh profile, especially when someone is complaining that the browser is sooooo slow. I wouldn't recommend the method, if I would have had any of the problems you described. There were no corrupted profiles and open links from documents always worked like intended - open default browser with the right profile.     You don't have to pick up the right profile with each start - just create two shortcuts with the right targets and put them to your desktop / start menu / quick launch bar, f.e.: target: C:\program files\NewMoon27\palemoon.exe -no-remote -p default target: C:\program files\NewMoon28\palemoon.exe -no-remote -p default2 So you still have a choice, but I don't see a way to circumvent different profile folders and still use the same profile in NM27 and NM28. kind regards soggi

The first impression counts - so the check of the first word is extremely important! LOL I had no problems using the same profiles with NM27 and NM28 (beside some expected due to different code base). Hm... have to check if this doesn't work anymore now!? I always just replace the program folders. Edit: OK, I just tested NM27 right now and it couldn't access the profile which it's shortcut was linked to before because it now links to ..\Moonchild\Pale Moon\.. instead of ..\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\.. - see screenshot below. kind regards soggi
