  6. I have to add this to my previous post... The whole thing arose from the circumstance that Pale Moon for XP wasn't tolerated anymore in the Moonchild / Matt A. Tobin universe and has been banned therefor. This was a very wrong decision, in my opinion. Why to work against fellows in this small OSS browser niche of Pale Moon? I still don't get it... There are chances of benefit for both sides, untapped potential. I understand that WinXP and prior are EOS long since, but Pale Moon XP / New Moon (with a *unsupported* mark, for my sake) could be released with latest Pale Moon under one umbrella. This would be a win-win situation. I hate people... head -> table, head -> table, head -> table... kind regards soggi
  7. Of course, like support for WinXP ended with Pale Moon 26.5 back then. But I have to say, that I installed latest Pale Moon on a Win7 machine some days / couple of weeks ago and really was surprised again (like years ago when I switched from FF52 to PM25/26) - I really like this handy and fast classic UI, which can't be fully restored with latest FF ESR. kind regards soggi
  8. The mirror of latest BNavigator, Firefox 45ESR, IceApe, IceDove, K-Meleon 1.5.x/74/76, MailNews 52, New Moon 26.5/27/28 and Serpent 52/55 builds by @roytam1 has been updated -> soggi.org - tools. changelog: - added latest BNavigator 0.9 20220402 build - added latest IceApe 52 20220402 build - added latest IceDove 52 20220402 build - added latest K-Meleon 76 20220402 build - added latest MailNews 52 20220402 build - added latest New Moon 27 20220402 builds - added latest New Moon 28 20220402 builds - added latest Serpent 52 20220402 builds - added latest Serpent 55 20220402 builds --------------------------------------------------------- Maybe I'll be stoned...but I would recommend the latest Pale Moon (current is 29.4.5.1). kind regards soggi
  9. For offline purposes WinXP will always be fine, there's no reason to stop it's use. The advantage of older systems is that you always have the power of decision what you want to do with them - even if connection to the Internet has been cut. Just one prominent example: I keep a .mp3 collection (mostly ripped from CDs I own) to hear music while using the PC f.e. and I also copied some albums to my iPhones. So I'm independent of the availability of a streaming service or internet connection in general when I want to listen to some music I like. A bad example: in 1997 we got our gas heating which is dependent on gas and electricity supply. If one of the two fails we can't heat up the water and our rooms. Unfortunately we knocked down all the tiled stoves in our house back then... kind regards soggi
  10. The mirror of latest BNavigator, Firefox 45ESR, IceApe, IceDove, K-Meleon 1.5.x/74/76, MailNews 52, New Moon 26.5/27/28 and Serpent 52/55 builds by @roytam1 has been updated -> soggi.org - tools. changelog: - added latest New Moon 28 Win64 20220326 bugfix build --------------------------------------------------------- OK...I can't imagine anything more unresponsive than WinXP on a Pentium Pro... xD Unfortunately I don't have the time to test it myself on several HW configs. Just tested latest builds on a C2D laptop some months ago. Did you use one of the latest builds? I agree it's still in alpha status and therefor it's not optimal. kind regards soggi
  11. As you already find out for yourself, no such problem with NM28 32 bit here. The interesting part could be seen when "Technische details" is expanded. Could you reproduce the problem on another machine? kind regards soggi
  12. The mirror of latest BNavigator, Firefox 45ESR, IceApe, IceDove, K-Meleon 1.5.x/74/76, MailNews 52, New Moon 26.5/27/28 and Serpent 52/55 builds by @roytam1 has been updated -> soggi.org - tools. changelog: - added latest Firefox 45ESR 20220326 builds - added latest IceApe 52 20220326 build - added latest IceDove 52 20220326 build - added latest K-Meleon 76 20220326 build - added latest New Moon 27 20220326 builds - added latest New Moon 28 20220326 builds - added latest Serpent 52 20220326 builds - added latest Serpent 55 20220326 builds - as well as find out for yourself --------------------------------------------------------- Did you already have a look on ReactOS? Feels like WinXP but even runs very smooth on older HW from the late 90s - and it's still in development. You may consider it as a Win2k/WinXP replacement in medium/long-term. kind regards soggi
  13. Yes, it works with some "tricks" - but this is very impractical and I don't know, if it would fulfill all my needs. The good thing about it is you can use these "tricks" as short-cuts in general no matter what browser you use. Doesn't work with NM28 - nothing happens, except a "#" is added at the end of the URL in the address bar. kind regards soggi
  14. Yes, I quoted @Ben Markson because I saw this as a recommendation to install this add-on on NM28. No problem, better to clear such things up than staying confused or even annoyed! My intention is always to help others with the most simple/performant/nerdy (or a mixture of them) solution and maybe someone who didn't know (like me two days ago) find this helpful. OT: My hope for 20 to 30 cm of snow has gone, this was a miserable winter... kind regards soggi
  15. Um...I started the searchplugins discussion and was talking about NM28, I thought that was clear!? I didn't mention any other browser while talking about this topic. For other browsers which don't support this easy way the way you described might be the best, I agree. kind regards soggi
  16. @VistaLover For me it's cumbersome... There don't has to be a XML available, you can C&P it within a few seconds and add the Base64 icon within a few minutes. And no, you don't need any add-on to add a search (engine) - just place this tiny XML into the "searchplugins" folder of a browser's profile, done. This is the simple OpenSearch standard. Edit: F.e. I want to create the search plugin for dict.cc - so I c&p the Google XML, change the URLs and grab the favicon and convert it into Base64 PNG, done. <SearchPlugin xmlns="http://www.mozilla.org/2006/browser/search/" xmlns:os="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/"> <os:ShortName>dict.cc</os:ShortName> <os:Description>dict.cc</os:Description> <os:InputEncoding>UTF-8</os:InputEncoding> <os:Image width="16" height="16">data:image/png;base64,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</os:Image> <SearchForm>https://www.dict.cc/</SearchForm> <os:Url type="text/html" method="GET" template="https://www.dict.cc/?s={searchTerms}" resultDomain="dict.cc"></os:Url> </SearchPlugin> kind regards soggi
  17. I guess this will be the end of Wayback Machine support!? Actually there are three reasons for moving on to NM28: Wayback Machine, Matomo and latest AVM FRITZ!Box web interface - they are very important to me and don't work with NM27 by now. This is kind of cumbersome, why should I use an extra add-on when It's so easy to create this simple XML file (as explained above)? Here's the Google example: <SearchPlugin xmlns="http://www.mozilla.org/2006/browser/search/" xmlns:os="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/"> <os:ShortName>Google</os:ShortName> <os:Description>Google</os:Description> <os:InputEncoding>UTF-8</os:InputEncoding> <os:Image width="16" height="16">data:image/png;base64,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</os:Image> <SearchForm>https://www.google.com/</SearchForm> <os:Url type="text/html" method="GET" template="https://www.google.com/search?q={searchTerms}" resultDomain="google.com"></os:Url> </SearchPlugin> kind regards soggi
  18. While using NM28 I ran again into the "missing search engine plugins" problem (the browser integrated search bar in the upper right), espacially Google is missing. So I decided to dig deeper and finally solve the problem. All the plugins on the Pale Moon site work, except Google (try out your self: http://web.archive.org/web/20170712213834/https://addons.palemoon.org/search-plugins/) On my search about this problem I found this post: So I tried https://mycroftproject.com/search-engines.html but this didn't satisfy me, so I read about the OpenSearch standard and found out this is just a small XML file (with links, some stuff and a Base64 encoded icon in it) which has to be placed inside the folder "searchplugins" of a browser's profile. The mycroftproject XML was really, really outdated (but still functional). I recoded the icon to a proper 16*16 Base64 PNG and put the latest search URL into the XML - and yes it works fine, and has a much lower size! Please let me know if someone is interested in a mirror of properly formated search plugins, then I will add them to the New Moon (etc.) mirror -> soggi.org - tools. Additionally mirroring of all your beloved add-ons is also possible, just leave me a note (within this thread). I'm already thinking about outsourcing the mirror into an extra article where I can add more content (tips, tweaks - all this stuff which keeps myself occupied while using New Moon). --------------------------------------------- No, I won't call you paranoid (BTW I love Black Sabbath's Paranoid) - that's just longsighted! Personally I backed up whole FTP servers in the past (and hopefully will do in the future). Backing up files is extremely important in the vintage/retro computer scene. --------------------------------------------- When visiting https://web.archive.org/web/*/www.cmd.com on NM27/28 it looks like on the screenshots below. I think I have to move on and make NM28 to my daily driver, the Way Back Machine is really important to my soggi.org work! kind regards soggi
  19. @roytam1 I noticed the Way Back Machine doesn't work anymore with NM27, with NM28 it works. They may have changed something with their JS again like months ago... example link: https://web.archive.org/web/*/www.cmd.com kind regards soggi

  21. OK, please just let me add this last post to OT here. I use an IBM T60 with 1024*768 resolution, maybe this is the reason!? Thanks for the hint regarding the subforum, as said above, I had a look at the board's start page and hoped to find it in a more prominent place. If debit card means normal bank card...yes I have one, but I don't have a credit card and don't plan to get one. I think that there are some to many members which would donate some bucks. Unfortunately there is just a short message in the subforum mentioned by @UCyborg just saying "Donations help go towards ongoing costs related to keeping the MSFN running." and threads with the user names who donated in the title. As said above, it would be more expedient, if you could add a lot more information about why donations are needed and what they are used for. I think a good starting point for any further discussion is this thread by @NotHereToPlayGames! Thanks in advance and kind regards soggi
  22. The mirror of latest BNavigator, Firefox 45ESR, IceApe, IceDove, K-Meleon 1.5.x/74/76, MailNews 52, New Moon 26.5/27/28 and Serpent 52/55 builds by @roytam1 has been updated -> soggi.org - tools. changelog: - added latest K-Meleon 76 20220312 build - added latest New Moon 27 20220312 builds ----------------------------------------- Entering another OT... I also saw this additional "Important Notice!". Just my 2 cts on this: When I saw this additional notice I thought "OK, have a look on how I can donate some bucks or EUR to MSFN." - so I opened the MSFN board's start page via the logo in the upper left to find a thread or something else...I had a look for some minutes and couldn't find anything. So I tried the menu in the upper right and after some "trial and error" I found it under "Browse" (at the bottom of the submenu). This is a very good place to hide the donation function if you don't want to have any donation. OK, finally I found the feature and wanted to donate some money, but unfortunately I can only donate via paypal - I don't have a paypal account and I don't want to create one, I really dislike this company and how it earns money. So you can see that there are some serious problems in the process of acquiring donations. You may consider to add links in prominent places, add a page with detailed information about why donations are needed / what they are used for and (very important) add more ways to donate (not only paypal). I wouldn't like to see this board going offline, there are many threads with highly valuable content and collected/individual wisdom. BTW usually I don't donate to such projects because I have my own free-to-use project soggi.org which gains no income for years - it comes w/o any annoying/performance hitting/risky (malware etc.) advertising and costs me around 150 EUR for hosting plus hundreds to thousands of hours free time a year. I see it as my part of the donation culture, respectively the free-to-use community. kind regards soggi

  25. First: These are sad days for the whole world and especially for Europe, any kind of war is despicable! I guess all people with intact brains don't want this war and don't want it to escalate into World War III, in particular as it would be a nuclear war. ------------------------------- The mirror of latest BNavigator, Firefox 45ESR, IceApe, IceDove, K-Meleon 1.5.x/74/76, MailNews 52, New Moon 26.5/27/28 and Serpent 52/55 builds by @roytam1 has been updated -> soggi.org - tools. changelog: - added latest Firefox 45ESR 20220226 builds - added latest IceApe 52 20220226 build - added latest IceDove 52 20220226 build - added latest K-Meleon 76 20220226 build - added latest New Moon 27 20220226 builds - added latest New Moon 28 20220226 builds - added latest Serpent 52 20220226 builds - added latest Serpent 55 20220226 builds - as well as find out for yourself kind regards soggi Edit: added Firefox 45ESR builds which have been overlooked...
