Antivirus programs are INFAMOUS for this type of uninstall "shadow" corruption. Avast, McAfee, Norton, etc all release their own "uninstall TOOLS", because you can't just uninstall them via normal means. And not even "Revo" can solve those uninstalls, you really have to use the developer's "tool" to properly uninstall. ie, does IDM have an "uninstall TOOL"?

Appears we are getting somewhere. ie, IDM corrupted your system! I've never used IDM. At least not to the point of KEEPING IT. I always always ALWAYS "try" ANYTHING of that nature INSIDE A VM. Then DELETE the VM when done "trying". My *HOST* machine never gets "corrupted" that way. But that can't save you now, the damage is already done. In desperation, what happens if you *reinstall* IDM? Does FDM come back to life? Does *uninstalling* the second IDM install affect FDM? Are there IDM forums where other users have posted similar issues with IDM corrupting their system?

Oh, are you trying several downloads via FDM? Or the same exact one with each test? If the same exact one, it is possible that the server you are downloading from denies "permission" to download via download managers.

It doesn't seem to be this SP3 patch. I suppose in hindsight I would say that it can't be. Because that would mean that FDM would work in SP2 but would not work in SP3.

Step 2: I can cofirm that FDM *still works* after installing that Spanish Hotfix.

Can you provide the source for this patch? I'll install it into my SP2 and see if that breaks FDM. re: Sphinx versus Comodo - Sphinx is the inferior product. It's intended to be inferior, it's goal is to get you to buy the unrestricted "Plus Edition". That isn't to say that Comodo is the best and you may like something "better". Comodo was a *MUST* for my use at the time due to PARENT-BASED RULES. I ran one set of rules if web browser was opened from a desktop icon, a DIFFERENT set of rules if same exact web browser was opened from the Start Menu, and an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT set of rules for the same exact web browser if it was opened by an "installer .exe" that attempted to phone home to the Mother Ship by way of launching a "default browser". At the time, Comodo was the only firewall that could set rules for one .exe file (web browser) but enable/block communications right down to port number incoming versus outgoing and TCP versus UDP for that .exe all because of what "parent program/file/dll/exe" executed that one .exe file. Not even my "clever" kids could find their way around that little "trick".

Do you only get this error when you are trying to do TOO MUCH ? ie, running Outlook Express *and* MSN Messenger *and* HexChat *and* whatever icons are hidden to the left of the yellow exclamation mark is TRYING TO DO TOO MUCH. You can only *realistically* expect so much out of only 2 GB RAM and it looks to me like you are expecting too much.

xp-AntiSpy would get rid of the "bubble notification". The yellow exclamation mark icon would still be present in the systray.

Yes, I did see that. BUT... That section of the page scrolls out of view and STAYS OUT OF VIEW once you scroll down to actually READ any article. On my end, once it is scrolled out of view, it NO LONGER drops the content of the page while reading.

I cannot replicate here. But the html code would suggest that your issue may be a CSS transition effect and not a JavaScript scroll.

Totally understood! For me, it's FIREFOX !!! To this day, it is the only program that has ever resulted in a complete reformat/reinstall. That was the late 90s and the sour taste still remains. Long before things like Proxomitron, uBO, NoScript, et cetera. The sour taste *never goes away*.

re: "lightweight" I'm showing Sphinx 6.1.9.53 (I've tried three different downloads for 7.5.100.200 but they all show 6.1.9.53 in Help/About) to use around 3 MB RAM. And Comodo 2.4.x to use around 11.4 (v2.4.16.174) to 13.5 (v2.4.17.183) MB RAM. But Sphinx is a LIMITED version that throws NAGS about not being able to do this or that without upgrading to Plus Edition !!! While Comodo 2.4.x is a REAL *FULLY FUNCTIONING* non-limited version that PUTS YOU IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT. Not to sound rude or whatever, but you can stick with lightweight and LIMITED or run something that actually WORKS but uses a little more RAM.

Any of the 2.4 versions. You can't go back as far as the 2.3 versions because they require a phone-home activation. The version I used to use is Comodo Firewall Pro 2.4.18.184. Same here. Plus Edition messages and wouldn't let me EDIT but did let me DELETE. And since my XP is locked down and NOTHING at the OS-level tried to connect after deleting, they did not reappear. They "probably" would have reappeared at reboot, but I didn't get that far, my goal was just to get FDM to download.

Makes sense. And by that logic, isn't Linux a Ghost Gun? HACKED FIRMMARE on hardware devices that wouldn't be possible if it weren't for Linux. I know of routers that sell for three times their original value all because they are Linux-based and HACKABLE.

<OT> I'm not familiar with that term. We have a 3rd Shift maintenance technician that PRINTS his own guns (or at least parts of them). He uses them for squirrel hunting and makes jerky out of them. Doesn't even sound the least bit appealing to me, totally AFRAID to even try it! He's the same maintenance technician that will squirt WD-40 into a conveyor motor instead of replacing the brushes! Caught one on fire! So if that's the way he "fixes" a brush worn to the nub, I'm also AFRAID to stand next to him while he fires off his squirrel gun.
