  1. So, Firefox 115 was just released and 117 Nightly is going to be released too very soon. - Windows 7/8.1 users are NOT merged to the ESR Branch with the update from 114.0.2 - my testing machine was pushed to the regular 115.0 release - The latest 116 Nightly (04-07-2023) still works (you need to download new builds manually by downloading the Nightly installer, since the in-build Updater doesn't work anymore)
  2. Yesterday they changed the system requirements of 116 Nightly to Windows 10+ Before that, all 116 builds had the minimum requirement of Windows 7. However, I could still install the latest nightly (on 8.1) without any issues. The installer isn't blocked either (yet)
  3. Thank god. The message wasn‘t intrusive on XP/Vista as well. However, once 52.9 ESR was reached a pop-up would come up, informing you about EOL. That will probably happen with the release of the last 115 ESR as well
  4. I remember a similar method, but haven‘t had the time to experiment yet. I‘ll keep you updated once I find a way
  5. Starting with the latest Firefox Nightly (v116, Build Date 22.06), the warning you all know and love from Windows XP/Vista is now shown on the updater ("You cannot perform further updates on this system") in Windows 7 and 8.1. The message links to the EOL Page. The browser still works, they haven't broken the compatibility tho. You will have to download newer Nightly builds manually now, since the updater will be stuck at an earlier 116 build.
  6. Has anyone found a way in how to make Chrome/Chromium 115 work on Windows 8.1? Chrome 110, 111, 112, 113 and 114 work without any issue, but starting with 115 it crashes during the launch of the program. No error message shown.
  7. I was running the latest v116 Nightly Build when a message popped up in Firefox saying something like "Still using Windows 7? How to Backup your Data. Those older OS are not receiving any security updates from Microsoft anymore" (not 1:1 like that, since the message was in German). I am curious why it popped up in Version 116, if 115 is considered to be the last one. By the way, this message also pops up in 8.1 with that same Windows 7 message thing. Time will tell what Mozilla might introduce to break compatibility with 7/8.1 or if they just shift them to ESR and won't change anything major in standard releases after 115
  8. Despite saying they would end support for Windows 7 and 8.1 with v115, the newly released nightly version of 116 still works on Windows 8.1. I also tested it with Windows 7 Compatibility Mode and it seems fine so far. The system requirements haven't changed either. However, since this is a very new and fresh build, it will obviously take some time to introduce new stuff that will eventually break support for them. As far as I remember Firefox 53 builds didn't work on XP, but work perfectly on Vista. Vista's compatbility was broken with v54. I'm curious when and if Mozilla will break the compatibility for 7 and 8.1 or if they just "declare" them EOL but won't change much from the inside. Time's gonna tell us. Nevertheless, here is proof: imgur.com/a/wUABk3Q [Edit: I don't know why they've put an 18+ warning but dont worry ;)]
  9. Nah it still works on 8.1 Just tried out 3.6 Just copy it from a Windows 10 install to 8.1 and launch utorrent.exe. It might install WebView2
  10. The latest Microsoft Office 365 (v2307) also works on 8.1 I'm surprised there haven't been compatibility issues since EOL was with 2301/2302 For Windows 7, compatibility was broken with v2003 already
  11. Hopefully, it won‘t get too hard to backport newer versions to 7/8.1
  12. It got really quiet here lately. So, I decided to test some new software out: - Office 365 (Microsoft 365) v2306 works on Windows 8.1 after installing a patch provided from MDL -> the main problem was that Microsoft deactivated the ability to join the beta program after v2301 (8.1‘s official EOL). This could be bypassed if you had an older Office ISO laying around and installed it -> joined beta -> updated to the latest Office available. However, Microsoft also deactivated that option. Nonetheless, newer versions 2302-current, from what I know, work fluently. - Google Chrome 113 (current stable) Works. You need to modify some things in Chrome.dll first. Doesn‘t work on Win7. - Google Chrome 114 (current beta) Same as above. - Chromium 115 I faced some issues with Chromium 115, it works good for a few minutes but websites, including settings, crash and need to be reloaded - Chromium 116 Doesn‘t start. There is no error message or so on - it just crashes after being launched. Even with sandbox disabled. Hope everyone has a nice weekend incoming
  13. I know it‘s a little bit Off-Topic but there is something strange I recently noticed regarding Office updates. Microsoft tends to update their Office Suites 6 months beyond their official End-of-Life cycle. Office 2007: Ended in October 2017 but was updated till April 2018 Office 2010: Ender in October 2020 but was updated till April 2021 Office 2013: Officially ended last month but I recently installed the May security update (15.0.5553.1000) through WU. So, I can expect it to receive updates till October?
  14. Did anyone tried out porting back Spotify 1.2.10 to Windows 7 (or 8.1) ? They introduced a new Design after ending Support for them
  15. I don‘t agree with this. I am very glad that Windows 10 didn‘t stay in that 2015 aesthetic till now and that they kept it‘s developed active. If you compare 1507 to 2004, you will notice how much things evolved and got better. I‘m also a big fan of the newer Start Menu and the Fluent Design System
  16. Nah not true. Latest Chromium Build working fine on 8.1: imgur.com/a/lE6buzI As much as I respect @D.Draker for all of your work and effort, I never really got your intention, of why you want to see Windows 7 and 8.1 getting removed from the Main OS Section from MSFN. No one really complains about this. Why even "downgrade" them to that section. They cannot be compared to Vista, especially Windows 7, since they are more popular and many programs still support them. I got that you dont like Windows 7 and 8, but it is really not up to you to decide which OS is "worth" staying in a section or not. Regards
  17. The newly released version of Rufus (USB flash tool) doesn‘t support Windows 7 anymore. Starting with v4.0 it requires Windows 8+ Furthermore, older versions and this one do not provide Windows 7 Downloads anymore
  18. I spotted that Google Drive still supports Windows 8(.1) and not Windows 7. I haven't figured out why since the latest version is using Chromium 105 as it's browser engine. Nonetheless, I think support for 8(.1) will eventually end this year as well, if they choose to upgrade the version to anything higher than 109.
  19. Yeah, maybe they will receive some ESU till 2032 or so but 2040.. nah
  20. Apparently, with Build 19045.2908, they added a new Search icon, which I find to be very ugly. It looks like they ported it straight from Windows 11, without adjusting it. You need to disable the large search box and only use the Icon to see it. Man, it's bigger than the Start Button itself..
  21. Has anyone tried out Microsoft's new Defender application, which is installed alongside Microsoft 365 now, on Windows 8.1? It might be an appx tho, so I don't know if it will work on 8.1 anyway
  22. Yeah but it still works tho if you scan the QR Code
  23. If you download an older installer (.exe) and install it on Windows 7/8.1 it will automatically say that there is an update available and will internally update the app to the latest version. All you can‘t do is to install it directly
  24. Microsoft 365 (Office 365) v2305 works on Windows 8.1 (EOL was 2301) imgur.com/a/Z2Vh1hr
