  1. My PC has 2GB RAM, which I used to feel enough for my daily usage as a XP system, and always set page file to 0. But as time goes by, programs begin to eat more and more memory. Now two most resident programs: Serpent browser and Thunderbird mail client take about 300~400M each, even peak to 600~700M, left me only about 30% physical memory for other programs. I don't want to use virtual memory for I feel it slows much when switching and restoring from standby, and no same type old DDR memory is available in market, plus the slot is already full. So I think of one Mozilla program for both web and mail -- Seamonkey, and think it may use less memory for saving the duplicate coding parts. But Seamonkey has ceased XP support. Is there any analogue of it on UXP platform?
  2. I searched the add-ons you mentioned but found PageTimerLite is nowhere to be downloaded. So I did some google and found AppTelemetry, and the treasure in the browser itself: ctrl+shift+Q. A sample result of this page: p. s. The time meaningful for comparison speed of browsers, I think, is "Processing duration", which in above picture is 17184 ms, for that does not include network transmission time.
  3. That is what I want -- To render page and switch between tabs fast, but the loading time is not important, for I always have the browser open, even for weeks. I do not like to close it and open it again, unless it crashes (very rarely), or I need more free memory to run another big program. I'd like to know if there is any program that could measure the time of rendering page and switching tabs.
  4. Thoughts about sync: The sync function is crippled now as I know. Is it possible to make it customizable, e.g. a customizable space URL like FTP or HTTP address, upload the sync-needed file when needed?
  5. Using Serpent 52, in https://www.satbeams.com/footprints?beam=5532 , If I click star icons of the longitude list, the content does not get updated to the new satellite. New profile and safe mode tried. Chrome 49 works. Please have a look.
  6. Stunnel works like this (my experience of old version): If you want to connect https://siteA, you create a port mapping between localhost:1234 and siteA:443, then visit http://localhost:1234 instead in browser. Apparently you cannot create too many mappings yourself.
  7. you may try the command line: cd <patch path> for %1 in (*.exe) do %1 -q The -q switch is just an example normally meaning quiet installation; you may find other switches by typing "<patch.exe> /?"
  8. In order to make teamviewer work within LAN, the server and client should both in same version. So you should install 14.2.56676 on Win10 too, and disable auto-update (I tested on Win7). Google says: Remote Desktop client works with Windows XP Home edition, and there's method to make rdp server works too, though seems a bit complicated.
  9. If you only need to connect within LAN, teamviewer still works. In options -> general -> network settings -> incoming LAN connections, select "accept". Version 14.2.56676 tested. But within LAN, I'd rather use windows built-in remote desktop.
  10. Thanks for the info. Just downloaded the zip and updated to the old directory. It works.
  11. @roytam1 : Just a reminder that recent builds have no asc signature file attached.
  12. I'd like to know if it is the fault of Serpent or the site itself. As to the test, I got a higher score in Firefox than Serpent, so it seems not reliable at all...
  13. Run HTML5 test here: https://www.antutu.com/html5/ There will be an error for Serpent 52 upon finishing: "parent.RankDataLists is undefined" (no error on android browser). Though the score will be shown.
  14. Thank you. The old version works. I recall that Serpent 52 implement a subset of webextensions of Firefox 52ESR, so this is an example.
  15. I'd like to install this addon on Serpent 52: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/web-developer/versions/ It states "Works with firefox 48.0 and later", and it installs to firefox52. But it cannot be installed on Serpent 52. Could I modify some file to make it install?
  16. Due to network issues (MSFN is too slow for me) my post is duplicated, anyone who has the deletion permission please remove this post. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'd like to install this addon on Serpent 52: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/web-developer/versions/ It states "Works with firefox 48.0 and later", and it installs to firefox52. But it cannot be installed on Serpent 52. Could I modify some file to make it install?
  17. https://addons.basilisk-browser.org/addon/config-comments/ opened today, but the addon on the page do not work; Continue using the modified version. Find a compatibility issue: With "hardware acceleration" turned off, Cleartype tuning do not work on bugzilla.mozilla.org. When viewing an arbitrary bug article, the text first displays Cleartype tuned, then reverted to un-tuned after 2~3 seconds. I have to use Cleartype tuning because my LCD display is not sharp enough. As this is the only site till now that has the problem, I'll leave it.
  18. @VistaLoverThank you for the direction! I edited bootstrap.js and now it shows "source comments". As now I see the contents of the file, I noticed there are also commented lines related to Thunderbird, like "resource:///defaults/" + prefsDir + "all-thunderbird.js", "resource:///defaults/" + prefsDir + "thunderbird-branding.js", "resource:///defaults/" + prefsDir + "mailnews.js", So I un-commented them, added below lines to install.rdf so it could be installed in TB: <Description> <!-- Thunderbird --> <em:id>{3550f703-e582-4d05-9a08-453d09bdfdc6}</em:id> <em:minVersion>52.0</em:minVersion> <em:maxVersion>53.*</em:maxVersion> </Description> But TB's about:config does not show "source comments" column at all. Could that be fixed too? And thanks for the warning. I have backed up my profile. A week has passed without any error -- I will change dom.ipc.processCount to 2 and see. ps. https://addons.basilisk-browser.org/addon/config-comments/ could not be opened (Error 520).
  19. I tried in Serpent 52 2020-7-31 and multi-process works. (I set browser.tabs.remote.force-enable;true according to the guide, and disabled "Use hardware acceleration when available" because if not, there is often blank page covering screen.) But Config Descriptions does not show anything in "Source comment" column (the column is added). I installed it from https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-us/firefox/
  20. I don't know your origin problem, but nlite does support POSReady 2009, and I made a Intel AHCI driver integrated into it, installed successfully in Virtualbox (Have no chance to install to a real machine yet).
  21. OK then I applied the registry patch according to MS to "completely mitigates the issue though can introduce usability issues in rare cases". Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows] "DisableATMFD"=dword:00000001 No issues observed till now (3 days).
  22. https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-us/security-guidance/advisory/adv200006#ID0EMGAC The above link does not mention Windows XP is affected, but say vaguely as "before Windows 10".
  23. I am using the last official Intel driver for 4965AG, yet apparently no WiDi features, maybe too old network adapter. Is official driver the only hope?
  24. Is it possible to install a program or driver in WinXP to support Miracast protocol (or WiFi direct, screen mirroring, smart screen, screen cast , whatever synonyms)? As cast source (client), target (server), or both? Is there any hardware barriers (Intel 4965AG)?
