My Browser Builds (Part 4)
UCyborg replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
From Pale Moon forum: -
Should've said 100, my laptop at work actually gets 90 with Edge 114. Did I mention that I had to use Teams recently at work and it just decided to update mid-call (so it threw me out)?
-
Surprised my current PC still works, the ones that were at the house in late nineties and early 2000s were nothing like it quality wise. I'm only looking at one bad data disk, bought in 2010. It's not too urgent as I have two other external disks. Even got 2 extra GB of RAM this year for the PC, but only because I found the stick at some company that takes used hardware and sells it. Generally really not comfortable with the idea of buying used stuff from random people online...

My Browser Builds (Part 4)

I did the tinkering with old OS as well, must have been the influence of the forum (registered for something entirely else here), maybe I've spent too much time here, the old systems aren't even my most genuine interest, but again, not really fitting anywhere, as I probably said million times by now. Anyway, don't mind me, carry on... -
Ha, I'll be happy if I manage to clean up my downloads folder the next year.

My Browser Builds (Part 4)

No point, I'm just tired and feel like rambling. -
I don't think I ever used a computer that would even get 80 points there.
-
If you ask me, it's all in the hands of the few very rich individuals owning large corporations, private jets, yachts, whatever. You holding onto that ancient Windows XP computer? Please... Get this, our so called president preaches to us common folks that we should get by with less while she herself is using a private yet. I won't go out of the way to save the environment, but I won't feel guilty buying something new every once in a while either.
-
Could pretty much agree with this every new year: Better not watch the recap of 2023 xD. New year, same bul*****, possibly some new thrown on top. Money may not buy you happiness, but if you're one of the bastards with a lot of it at your disposal, you can at least buy your way out of a lotta bullcrap you have to deal with otherwise.

If only people here updated their OS every once in a while. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/fileio/maximum-file-path-limitation?tabs=registry#enable-long-paths-in-windows-10-version-1607-and-later Am I the only one that finds it odd that people here want to have everything updated except the OS? No, those silly POS updates or whatever they call them don't make your OS updated. -

And what does the "loader" do? I thought people only use them to pass million command-line arguments to .exe (which I'd do with a batch file or similar if I really "needed" them and shortcut wouldn't accept all of them) and delete some files off profile folder on exit (which I personally consider a snake oil, a feel-good drug for a modern day paranoid).

Huh, I just realized this doesn't happen on cold boot, so I guess it appears with uptime and/or hybrid shutdown/startup cycles. So perhaps my Windows installation isn't (as) messed up in a way that could only be easily and reliably fixed with fresh install. Still, would be nice to know what causes faultrep.dll to include WER_SUBMIT_QUEUE flag when calling WerReportSubmit, but I'm a bit rusty at analyzing the code and well, some problems are just beyond me.

I am 100% unique in canvas test in my usual browsers, but I have them customized to my liking, including font rendering parameters, which does change the fingerprint.

My Browser Builds (Part 4)

Yeah, I noticed, also cipher suite list looks the same between the two browsers. No idea what's going on, I block JavaScript by default, shouldn't have anything to do with the ability to open the website. -

How do you do JavaScript if your client doesn't even get to the point of obtaining the base HTML? I set general.useragent.override on Serpent 52 to Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:6.5) Goanna/20231202 PaleMoon/32.5.1, compared the HTTP request header afterwards, it's exactly the same as the one sent by Linux version of Pale Moon. So the browser does something differently or can't do something? That should've got me in...unsupported cipher? Proxomitron doesn't get me in either. -

Something's different, maybe I should compare the request header. -

I get in elektroda.pl without an issue with official Pale Moon on Win11 or Linux, native user agent. Guess they don't like your browsers. -
I don't know, some people in these communities say things are much better than over a decade ago for instance, though I'm still pessimistic. Nasty people seem to be everywhere. Recently there was the incident in my home country when some folks were burning the rainbow flags. Even more recent news, people being as****** to maintenance workers on our roads, verbal assaults and such, on top of them already being in lethal danger due to drunk and careless drivers.

Had a bit of fun last weekend with KeePassXC-Browser extension, I posted about it here, the latest version 1.18.10, after some modifications, kinda works in Serpent (52) if you change manifest.json for it to require lesser Firefox version. The buttons it creates in login form fields are invisible, but clickable. Logging into GitHub is a breeze, only mouse clicks, no need for any key-combo or leaving the browser. XUL version would be cool, but I doubt anyone will develop it. Even with the theory that the fact that Moonchild crew explicitly opted out of supporting ChromeZilla extensions could encourage development of XUL versions of extensions, guess that's s still a pipe dream in such a niche community. -
will windows 11 become the new vista failure of the 2022s?
UCyborg replied to legacyfan's topic in Windows 11
You can do that on your home PC, but not on others' computers, especially not on customers' at work. And I presume it's common for work computers at companies to be locked down. Not where I work, got Windows 10 Home there...seriously. ExplorerPatcher is also pretty capable of restoring useful features, but the problem are dependencies on MS's code, so when they delete it...which they are doing at slow pace...things will get pretty boring I think. Also like the weather widget, at least in theory, well it needs Edge WebView, so typical huge Chromium browser code running in the background, otherwise custom made, but really destabilizes Explorer, at least wherever I try it. Work PC running Win10 version 1809 seems to be holding up best if I turn off auto accent color changes when desktop background changes. But at home, either Win10 20H2 or Win11 23H2, either Explorer crashes after a while or the widget freezes and hogs one CPU core indefinitely. And nobody talks about it, maybe I should ask on GitHub. The only thing I haven't tried, I wonder if moving primary taskbar to a secondary screen could be a factor. That was supposedly considered a bug by Microsoft, who would've thought. ExplorerPatcher brought it back because number of people indeed consider it a useful feature. Also, Win11 has to hold a record with idle RAM consumption, got almost 2 GB with the usual stuff loaded and just looking at the empty desktop. But what exactly are we getting in return? That's with Microsoft Defender disabled, it's actually still doable, just kinda ugly as it needs more than just the obvious Defender service disabled, because otherwise it's stubborn and just won't turn off by any normal knob (eg. Group Policy). Another curious observation, Xbox Game Bar has been promoted to system component. -

At least among Steam users, the Windows 11 usage has increased recently. https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey Huh, while setting Win11 up, I noticed a setting which at least in Win10 was related to timeline you could see by opening Task View. It's gone...while not recent news, kinda bummed. I didn't use it often, but sometimes it was nice to look at stuff I had opened in the past the way it way presented. Working on others' computers, the new context menus, very annoying! Why do we have to click more options to get to the old functional context menu to be able to do "Open file location" or whatever? Where did this mentality come from that they're making people have to click through more things to accomplish something? -
Pretty much as usual, so nothing shocking, maybe even slightly better than usual. It's just, the things we have to do to get by, it gets old. A hamster can just sleep in the morning.

TeamViewer has gone bye-bye on Windows XP, replacement needed
UCyborg replied to assenort's topic in Windows XP
Not related to OS compatibility, but since you posted that screen with the red banner, it reminded me to bring up that they're serious about the free license and non-professional use. I used it at times at work when there was a customer that happened to have AnyDesk ready to be able to connect quickly, but I stopped using it since they started blocking with long timed nags about obtaining a license. So I have to stick with (licensed) TeamViewer for the most part. I liked the older version better that has labelled buttons on the command bar or however they call it, but one time a customer appeared that I just couldn't connect to, then it worked after I ran the update.
