  1. The links for RetroZilla are available on GitHub: https://github.com/rn10950/RetroZilla/releases/ Depending on your needs, you will have issues connecting to certain websites, particularly HTTPS. Even with the latest RetroZilla 2.1 YouTube will not play HTML5 and Flash is no longer supported. Also, I couldn't access Citibank.com. I tested the browsers under Windows 7 SP1. (I used the ZIP packages). RetroZilla 2.1: https://github.com/rn10950/RetroZilla/releases/download/2.1/retrozilla-2.1.en-US.win32.zip RetroZilla can't connect securely to online.citibank.com because the site uses a security protocol which isn't enabled.
  2. I only have Windows 7 installed with SP1, and IE 11 installed with the current cumulative update (11.0.105 as of January 2019). No other updates, not even to Office 2016. (I use Chrome as my browser) I don't trust Microsoft's updates, if Win10 has been any indication. The mass layoffs of quality assurance (QA) employees in 2016 reinforces my beliefs. This isn't the Microsoft of Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates anymore. I have become very apprehensive about the quality of products coming out of Redmond nowadays. The buggy Win10 updates, and what I consider "heavy-handed" or unethical methods to push people to Win10, compromise the confidence I have in the company. Woman wins $10,000 judgment against Microsoft for forced Windows 10 upgrade Microsoft lays off hundreds of employees this week, largely in Redmond, London
  3. Well, to take that further, you could argue that XP isn't as full featured as 7. In all reality, most people I know use Adobe Reader simply to view and print PDF. For that purpose, it (and Chrome and Firefox) gets the job done.
  4. Correct, the latest updates to 11.0.x will work if applied manually. But I'm pretty sure the spigot is now turned off: Enterprise Toolkit » Release Notes for Legacy Acrobat Products » Overview » next: 11.0.23 Planned update, November 14, 2017 XP and Office 2003 support Microsoft is ending support for Windows XP and Office 2003 on April 8, 2014. Therefore, Acrobat & Reader versions 11.0.09 and 10.1.12 (September 9, 2014 quarterly update) drop support for: -Windows XP. You can continue to manually install and update Acrobat and Reader on XP, but future updates will not have been tested on XP and technical support will end for that platform. -MS Office 2003 PDFMakers. Existing users can continue to use Acrobat PDFMakers for Office 2003. However, Adobe will not release any bug fixes or provide technical support for Office 2003 PDFMaker issues after the 11.0.07 and 10.1.10 release of May 13, 2014. This is also true for enterprise customers on support contracts. For more detail, see http://blogs.adobe.com/acrobat/windows-xp-end-of-support-html.
  5. I personally don't use Adobe Reader, seems unnecessary since Chrome/Firefox does the job. I'm aware 11.0.23 works, I wrote about that a few weeks ago.
  6. I'm aware, but not everyone wants to install the 300MB April 2016 update, particularly if it's in a production environment and not connected to the internet.
  7. Please try the standalone ZIP and post back if it runs. https://download-origin.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/tinderbox-builds/mozilla-esr52-win64/1536215521/firefox-52.9.1.en-US.win64.zip or https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/tinderbox-builds/mozilla-esr52-win64/1536215521/firefox-52.9.1.en-US.win64.zip
  8. This is interesting. It's probably because certain API calls that exist in Win7 and later don't exist in XP 64. The 64 installer is likely designed around NT 6.x code. I was able to do an in-place upgrade from 52.9.0 on XP 32 without any crash.
  9. After installing Windows 7 SP1, simply install KB4480965. This will bring you up to IE 11 (11.0.105) for January 2019. If you haven't installed Internet Explorer 11 yet, don't forget to install the 6 prerequisites first (KB2729094, KB2731771, KB2533623, KB2670838, KB2786081, KB2834140): https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2847882/prerequisite-updates-for-internet-explorer-11
  10. I did not find in other languages, will the language pack work? https://download-origin.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/tinderbox-builds/mozilla-esr52-win32/1536215521/firefox-52.9.1.en-US.langpack.xpi
  11. Correct. There are multiple versions available for Windows, Linux, Mac, etc. However, most people running XP are likely to be running the 32-bit flavor so I felt the Win32 would be most relevant. I personally have always preferred 32-bit XP for the widest software compatibility including NTVDM and 16-bit programs and applications.
  12. The existence of Thunderbird 52.9.1 meant to me that there must be a Firefox 52.9.1 somewhere. Thunderbird 52.9.1: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/52.9.1/win32/en-US/Thunderbird Setup 52.9.1.exe Also, Sea-Monkey 2.49.5 is now out, and works on XP, even though it's not posted on the main page: https://www.wg9s.com/comm-esr/seamonkey-2.49.5.en-US.win32.zip
  13. Although this could go in the "browsers" thread, I didn't want this to get buried in the many pages of that thread. After some detective work, I've located Firefox 52.9.1 ESR buried on Mozilla's servers and confirmed it works on Windows XP. The 52.9.0 version is dated 25-JUN-2018 while the 52.9.1 version is dated 06-SEP-2018. The links are https://download-origin.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/tinderbox-builds/mozilla-esr52-win32/1536215521/firefox-52.9.1.en-US.win32.installer.exe and alternate link is https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/tinderbox-builds/mozilla-esr52-win32/1536215521/firefox-52.9.1.en-US.win32.installer.exe. I've also added it to my FTP: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/firefox-52.9.1.en-US.win32.installer.exe I'm not sure why Mozilla didn't make this release public, but ENJOY! Note that I don't use XP 64 bit but I would expect the same results.
  14. With Chrome or Firefox all you have to do is click on a PDF file from a website and it will automatically open. If it is a local PDF file on your computer, you can SHIFT + RIGHT-CLICK --> OPEN WITH and select Chrome or Firefox. You may have to "Choose program" if it's not in the default list that appears. 15. I just use Firefox and Chrome, they can both open PDF files. (Since Firefox 19 and Chrome 6)
  16. Apparently all versions including the current 14 are supported under XP: https://community.teamviewer.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/Which-operating-systems-are-supported/ta-p/24141#toc-hId--1332302068 As for me, I'm still using version 12, which I've been very happy with (12.1.12295): http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/TeamViewer_Setup.exe Later releases of version 12 had stability issues so I chose not to update. You can download earlier versions of TeamViewer 13 to 10 here (Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP): https://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/previous-versions/ You can download legacy versions of TeamViewer 5 to 9 here (Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000): https://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/old-versions.aspx
  17. Just a reminder I've saved both files here: the "unofficially supported" 7.38.0.101 and the "last officially supported" 7.36.0.150. The Skype website link for the 7.36.0.150 is still active at this time. The 7.36.x is signed May 2017 while the 7.38.x is signed June 2017.
  18. I have a copy and tried it a few years ago. I was not impressed. It's basically a neutered XP.
  19. HA! As I noted in the other thread, you must use Silverlight with Internet Explorer. I had forgotten that it doesn’t work with Chrome 49 on XP. I was trying to test it today in Chrome and nothing was happening.
  20. This explains why I couldn’t get it to work in Chrome 49 on XP. I have had Silverlight installed for years but I didn’t realize that Silverlight only works in Internet Explorer!
  21. It seems that this Silverlight update mention has been split between this thread and another but I find it funny to note that that the digital signature shows October 23 and it is just being released now! The Microsoft link is https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=57768. The direct download link is https://download.microsoft.com/download/D/D/F/DDF23DF4-0186-495D-AA35-C93569204409/50918.00/Silverlight.exe I've also added it to my FTP: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/Silverlight5.1.50918.exe I'm surprised by the update since Silverlight is basically a dead technology and the last update was nearly 2 years ago. If you use Netflix in Google Chrome or Firefox on Windows XP, it will use HTML5.
  22. Rather surprising, since Silverlight is basically a dead technology and the last update was nearly 2 years ago. If you use Netflix in Google Chrome or Firefox on Windows XP, it will use HTML5. But thanks for the update, I'll upload it to my FTP. It's humorous that the digital signature shows October 23 and it is just being released now! I've also added it to my FTP: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/Silverlight5.1.50918.exe
  23. I'm not sure if it has been addressed anywhere, but if you overwrite the contents of the Java 8 Update 152 folder with the contents of Java 8 Update 191, it completely fails in Internet Explorer 8. The runtime doesn't even appear. The Java runtime works successfully if you rollback to Java 8 Update 152. (http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/jre-8u152-windows-i586.exe)
  24. VLC Media Player 3.0.5 was released a couple weeks ago. All versions of 3.x.x are supported on XP. https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html The update "...and fixes numerous hardware acceleration issues on Windows". https://www.videolan.org/news.html
  25. @Roffen or anyone You should not have any issues downloading the Firefox installers as long as you have XP SP3. The certificate errors would be due to outdated XP service packs, not outdated Internet Explorer. I have downloaded Firefox on dozens of machines with Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8 with SP3. This is successful because SP3 contains updated CRYPT32, RSAENH and other cryptographic files and libraries which are required for SHA2 support, among many other improvements and fixes. For example, if you attempt to open secure websites such as Outlook Webmail on IE 6 with XP SP2, it will fail. But, with SP3 it will succeed. (You should also change IE's settings to TLS instead of SSL because of the POODLE vulnerability). http://sdfox7.com/xp/files/ol365ssl.jpg http://sdfox7.com/xp/files/ol365tls.jpg For future reference, you can download XP SP3 directly from my FTP or the Internet Archive: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe or https://web.archive.org/web/20140119014510/http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/3/0/d30e32d8-418a-469d-b600-f32ce3edf42d/WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe I also have the installers for Internet Explorer here (IE 6 is included in XP so the download link is unnecessary): Internet Explorer 7: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp2/IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe or https://web.archive.org/web/20130509183828/http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/8/8/38889dc1-848c-4bf2-8335-86c573ad86d9/IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe Internet Explorer 8: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/IE8-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe or https://web.archive.org/web/20130510043925/http://download.microsoft.com/download/C/C/0/CC0BD555-33DD-411E-936B-73AC6F95AE11/IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU.exe
