search the forum for a member created utility called "RegSeeker". i never used it, but i think it's for checking .reg files for errors.

absolutly! OEM is not the way to go for a high-end system.

i have an update that pertains to an earlier post of mine, quoted below. this is from the developer of sandboxie... and yes, i do have KPF v4 installed. whewwwww! i got my array back! i never lost an array before and i thought i wan in for a real headache. thank whatever powers that be that i had a 1 GB swap partition to install a parallel OS so i didn't have to lose any data! addressing your questions... i didn't disable anything because i don't think i have anything enabled or installed that could inhibit the sandbox installation. i even have that "prevent data execution" thingy set to "noexecute=AlwaysOff" in 'boot.ini'. i have a firewall, but i doubt that was an issue. besides, it's set to prompt me on unknown connections and the file protection part of it is disabled. i have an AV scanner, but i use ClamWin and it's very small, unobtrusive and doesn't embed itself into the system like many others do. it's also on-demand only, so it's not scanning anything in the background. as for booting in safe mode, that's not possible when your system drive RAID array is off-line the problem had to do with one of the disks not being assigned to the array, not both, or so it appeared. and yes, i changed the Sandbox Top-level folder option to set it to 'D:', my storage array. and yes again, i will absolutely post my issue in the sandboxie forum. first i better cool down though in order to prevent the 'F' word from surfacing several times just kidding i'm just happy i fixed the array. and i didn't have to install a parallel OS to do it, but i couldn't figure out how to do it in the promise BIOS so i needed internet access to search around. as it turns out, you can just delete the array and create a new one - however this MUST be done carefully or you risk data loss. PS... thanks for the forum link and you input

well, the problem is that an id*** will never see that second option and i'm an id***. i must've went through the TMP options at least 5 times and missed that EVERY time. i updated my prior post and removed that code. to all that stuck that code in your userChrome.css, remove it. not needed.

i used testdisk a few days ago to fix my bootsector after an application i installed hosed it. good little utility.
-
good. i didn't want to feel like i'm being singled out with XP jk
-
no, i asked because i was just curious. it looks familiar.

there's an awful lot of people that have problems with creative's drivers with just normal installs (not unattended). this isn't a fix for your problem, rather an alternative. i don't know if they can be installed unattended, as i never checked. they are much more powerful than creative's... kxProject

for me, that option hides or un-hides a single close tab button all the way on the right of the tab bar, not the close buttons on the tabs themselves.

i didn't say it was superior, that was Link21 however, what OS is better is a personal choice. to flatly say one is better than the other is just plain wrong. it depends on what your needs are.

eh, be careful with that one if 9x were as popular as NT, i'm sure the virus writers would be focusing on it instead. not so many years ago it was under heavy attack. now which is inherently more secure, i don't know. if you assume a completely vanilla, default installation, i would guess 98 on up *may* be more secure overall. however, with a few 'adjustments', NT can be hardened pretty well IMO. as crappy as it is, at least it has a firewall, the group policy editor (missing in 'home' i guess), easy access to the services and a more secure filesystem - although someone else brought up a point that may make the latter questionable. however, all of this means more complexity as well, and more complexity can mean it's easier to screw up.
-
@slimzky - FF doesn't check for updates constantly. if you look in about:config, you'll see: app.update.timer mine is set to 600000, whatever that means. if it's seconds, then it amounts to about once a week.
-
yeah, you sure did... and then some. i think the 9x folks are looking for relevant answers though - answers that actually make sense. i don't even use 9x anymore, yet i've managed to poke a few holes in your misguided thinking and wayward opnions. however it appears you choose to not to deal with questions for which you have no good answer, choosing instead to repeat -- over and over and over -- how flawed it is and how it's no good and how dev's shouldn't support it anymore and how there's no good reason to use it... yada yada yada. interesting, don't you think - that in spite of your intimate familiarity with 9x and what a big pile of junk it is, a lot of people seem to be using it quite successfully. and using it for applications that you stated it's useless for. matter of fact, i think just about every point you've made has been proven wrong.

[Question]-is it possible to stop error windows from appearing?
atomizer replied to aic_grunge's topic in Windows XP
computer > properties > advanced > error reporting or run 'services.msc' and disable the 'error reporting' service. better yet, remove the crap you don't need with nLite. -
i think 'my music' reappears because of media player settings. if you have WMP installed, check it's settings.
-
that's a new one. oh well, i never claimed to be smart

change the default ports maybe? may work for IM's too, i dunno. DC++ has a funny little option in it; 'send garbage on incoming/outgoing connections to avoid ISP bandwidth throttling'. whatever 'garbage' it's sending may also foil campus security. i happen to like the PeerWeb version of DC++ myself. what may also help is PeerGuardian 2. just be aware, as mentioned previously, that your buddy will be taking a risk.
-
Well that'd be nice if I could. When those are installed and I look into their installation directories there are only two files; one being the .exe and the other a read-me.txt. I'll try copying the executables and accessing them on my other system. Is that all you're meaning for me to do? yeah, that's sort of what i meant. i don't know about the packages previously mentioned (DVD decrypter and the other one), but some encoding packages are mainly just a conglomerate of a multitude of 3rd party applications. i thought that maybe a particular package might use a particular executable for just CD/DVD burning. if that were the case, then you could just use that .exe if you couldn't find it elsewhere.
-
besides this stuff, just think of all the s'kiddies right now watching people through their personal web cams using their favorite trojan
-
i wonder if you could just pull the executable you need from one of the packages mentioned previously?
-
that's just a URL. is there an error message or something?
