  1. In my simple opinion - it's just too early to think about that.
  2. Thanks for the info. I'm usually depending from AV built-in firewalls. Probably the best in my opinion was Kaspersky but hell this is expensive!
  3. Yes, Windows 2000 is very fast and still can run most of the modern programs. But the only problem is the lack of firewall (at least for me). I will give more attention to that thing when I have time but for now thumbs up for 98 SE and 2000.
  4. I had never tested Windows 8/8.1. For me it's not bad in terms of perfomance. It's bad because of Metro. My Android Phone/Tablet will fit greatly with it but not my PC. And like Andre said - Vista have the best design ever existed for Windows. And if you are "hacker type of a user" you can tweak Vista to be less memory demanding but I never tried this. Maybe I will.
  5. Interesting fact. Maybe this is the case for my anger against the updates. Anyway looks like the things are now clear.
  6. This task was way easier than I though so problem solved. nLite is really nice program! My only problem was to choose which drivers to insert. Thanks for the answers.
  7. I had never tried to update XP (20GB+ was my Windows 7 after 3 years non stop updates). I was just trying to say that for me updates are useless no matter what Windows I use. Anyway looks like I'm the only one who avoid Windows Update.
  8. I'm not talking about XP updates but anyway it's always better to believe yourself.
  9. Please do. Have you even tried anything? Read the Reference Guide? Started the program? Checked the "Application Addons" sub-forum? 4 times nope. I had extracted my drivers already from the devices which I have. Sorry. This is a volunteer forum. We are glad to help you and offer our advice based on our experience. But very few of us, and I am not one of them, have any interest in doing it for you. Do the four things Ponch suggested. Try to do it yourself. Tell us what happened vs what you expected to happen and we'll go from there. Cheers and Regards Well I'm not asking for "do this work for me". I was asking for advice and Ponch, and Submix8c already answered this question. Of course if I have a problem after trying to do the required steps then I will really ask for help.
  10. Well to be honest if this is my only choice then I give up my "strategy" at least for Windows 2000. I will take a look at SP 5.2 later on and try again my luck.

  12. Hi. Did you apply all windows update ? Plz Check sys file with dependency walker. No, I'm avoiding Windows Update.
  13. I'm curious to know how to integrate a few newer drivers and even programs in XP iso file? There are a lot of threads around but I haven't looked closely at them (sorry for that ).
  14. You can use Legacy ATI Driver 10.2 for Windows 2000 from on my blog. http://blog.livedoor.jp/blackwingcat/archives/967121.html I want to thank you for this! But looks like i installed it not where i want it and then BSOD appeared. Anyway thanks for the help.
  15. My solution is: Malwarebytes, legal AV, Firefox+AdBlock and of course every kind of firewall (if you have router firewall - nice).
  16. can't go more stupid than this basically you rely on your AV for everything while known backdoors and weakness are still there Looks like we will never have the same point of view with you but I really don't know what exactly this updates do more than making your Windows 20 GB+ and slowing it down like a turtle. When I was using 7 I was downloading everything. My initial boot time was ~ 30 sec. after 3 years it was around 1 min. and 30 sec. Without updating my XP it remained fast for years. And virus scanning (1 for 3 months) detected from nothing to 1-2 adware things. After using AdBlock this never happened again and my PC is clean. The only update which is worth is the SP.
  17. Vista is my choice.
  18. Using AV when you have secure browsing is a waste of RAM memory at least for me. I read at the Panda Cloud forums that they will continue support for XP but I don't know for how long.
  19. Like you can see I'm using XP and I'm glad to read about more support BUT... I NEVER download Windows updates, I'm updating only my security programs like AV. In this way my XP is always faster! Agorima, Panda Cloud confirmed that it's support for XP will continue after April 2014. ClamAV is still supporting even 98 SE. BitComet also. Most probably Daemon Tools too will support XP. That's all I know.
  20. Im having trouble for both Windows 98 and Windows 2000 because of my graphics card ATI Radeon X1200. The first AMD Catalyst which supports it is for Windows XP - version 7.6. Windows 98 SE is blocked to version 6.2 and Windows 2000 SP4 is blocked to version 6.5. Im generally upset.
  21. So even my old PC is f*cked! But anyway I will think about the 3D hardware acceleration if I really need it because on this PC I never play modern games from 2004+. EDIT: I'm preparing 3 CD's - 100 000 drivers one (95-Vista), CD with vital programs and the VESA/VBE Driver and Windows 98 SE Bootable. I will try to make this PC 98 friendly and IF needed I will remove the first RAM chip to decrease the RAM (my PC says 896 MB). After installing SP 3.29 I think that the limit will be destroyed. Stay tuned this days...
  22. I want just to point out that my laptop rather will be dead than running with 98. I checked out what drivers it can support. The results are scary - it can support minimum XP SP2 drivers. In other words anything older than XP will not work on it. As a prove I tested Windows 2000 SP4 on it and it refused to boot after the disk partition. In other words: Problem solved.
  23. Can Windows 98 works fine with 1 GB DDR2 RAM, 2 GHz AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+, ATI Radeon X1200? I checked that my motherboard M2A-VM will work just fine with Windows 98 SE. The hard disk (80 GB) is fine for FAT 32. Im only worried about the RAM, processor and video card listed above...
  24. Can I update my Windows 98 SE Bootable disk with this SP3 and does it's possible? Or the easiest way will be to write it to another disk and after the OS install just to run it. Great work by the way!
  25. Im trying to be as legal as possible so I used a 30 day trial of Vista because I don't own a copy. Let's begin! Windows Vista SP2 actually is even more beautiful than Windows 7 SP1 and at first glance you can't notice any difference. But they start right from the beggining: drivers. While 7 was able to find every driver in my 2009 laptop, Vista was unable to find 8 drivers! Not a real problem for me because I have awesome programs for drivers search and I was able to find 7 out of 8 and upgrade 22. The last was the wireless. I searched manually through the internet (with cable) to find it. I found after hours of searching that Vista is ALMOST forgotten from the manufactors. Anyway I found a driver from 2009 (one of the first ever released for this wirelesss card) for Vista and I installed it. Thanksfully no further problems occured. Now, Vista is a little more resource hungry than 7, at some point is faster, at some not. The world wide opinion about that "Windows 7 is Vista SP3" is correct! Vista also preserves some functions which I like while 7 remove them or lock them (you are unable to remove the desktop shortcut on the taskbar in 7, in Vista you can). Another not so good news about Vista is the support for everything! While XP is disappearing, Vista is following it closely. I don't know why everybody hate it... The issues at the start are dead from a long time. In the end: My opinion about Vista is positive, only thing which I don't like are the support dropping and the lack of drivers for it. Thanks for reading.
