  2. UPDATED · 7-23-2008 Enjoy. _____________________________________ RetroOS: CRYPTME.EXE = only for WinME CRYPT9X.EXE = for all other Win9x editions: 95, 95a, 95B, 95C, 98, 98 SP1 + 98 SE(U) except WinME Must not install CRYPT9X on WinME nor CRYPTME on Win9x! Cryptology/SSL files are strictly meant for a specific OS. 98SE2ME has nothing to do with cryptology. Crypt/SLL files are installed by default by MS IE (Internet Explorer) 4.x/5.x/6.x [or separately = (hot)fixes], and used by MS IE + MS OE (Outlook Express): http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm#HEP _____________________________________ erpdude8: About your request to add a REG file into GRPHFLTS.EXE to comply with Win95 OSes limitation of not properly recognizing the DWORD string in INF files [0x00010001]: IMHO: About the REG_DWORD / REG_BINARY interpretation by Win95 OSes: As long as a reg value is in hex format [not string = ASCII (REG_SZ)], it doesn't matter if it is DWORD or BINARY, because Win9x [all editions: 95, 98, ME] interprets it the same. This is valid, of course, only for hex values 1 to 4 bytes (8 to 32 bits) long [00000000 = in DWORD format or 00,00,00,00 = in BINARY format]. Hex values longer than 4 bytes are supposed to be interpreted automatically as BINARY, because DWORD values can be only 1 to 4 bytes long [max length]. The only difference between the DWORD and BINARY formats is that the value sequence is coded backwards. Example: "ValueName"=dword:01020304 "ValueName"=hex:04,03,02,01 which means the 4 groups of bytes are arranged backwards, but essentially the reg value is identical. This interpretation is internal to the OS [and transparent to the user], so it should not influence the format the registry values are implemented in, as long as a hex value doesn't go over 4 bytes in length. More details [see REG_DWORD + REG_BINARY]: http://www.mdgx.com/reg.htm#RTS Example [see Hex + Dword values = both work the same]: http://www.mdgx.com/newtip6.htm#CDMAX HTH
  3. 98SE2ME · UPDATED · 7-23-2008 _______________________________ All updates here: http://www.mdgx.com/9s2m/updates.php 1. Added modded WinME PRINTERS.HTT into option 3, because of a Start -> Settings -> Printers "length is null or not an object" JavaScript error message. 2. Added modded WinME SYSMON.EXE: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...581&st=1011 3. Added Winpopup files, bnts.dll + sti_ci*.dll files. 4. MSIMG32.DLL installs as part of 98SE2ME options 1 + 2 for ~ 6-7 years now. 5. I have seen the LBA modded IO.SYS web page: http://home.exetel.com.au/phelum/w98.htm To my knowledge IO.SYS from another OS [WinME] canNOT be "transplanted" onto Win98 SE. They are different, and they check for MS Windows [sorry... MS-DOS ] version/build [unless some1 wants to hex-mod it], which will lockup your Win98 SE OS at bootup. List of all files installed by 98SE2ME: http://www.mdgx.com/98-5.htm#FME More updates coming up in the near future. Stay tuned. Enjoy.
  4. soporific: You may want to add "index.php" to all MSFN forum URLs [on your 1st post]. They have changed the Invision board PHP scripts, and "old way" URLs (example): http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=84886 do not work anymore. They all redirect to the MSFN forums main page. New way (it works): http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=84886 Please see the 7-1-2008 updates I posted here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=46581 P.S.: The files/links at my web site seem to work again [i asked them to reset permissions back, so everybody can access them, they have reset permissions on my files/folders without my permission ]. Please let me know if you find any that still don't work, so I can contact my web site provider to have them fixed. Best wishes.
  5. I have noted the 98/ME updates that need to be created [tx a lot guys!]: - Jet Q950749 [to be posted at www.mdgx.com/add.htm]: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms08-028.mspx - Outlook Express Q941202 [to be created to replace OE923694.EXE]: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms07-056.mspx - HTML32.CNV, MSCONV97.DLL & MSWRD832.CNV from Q923618 [Office SP3] [to be included in GRPHFLTS.EXE]: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=923618 - CRYPTDLG.DLL 5.0.1558.6608 [to be included in CRYPT9X.EXE]. Question: Please post here or PM me what update/hotfix is CRYPTDLG.DLL 5.0.1558.6608 part of [url please]? Thanks. UPDATED 7-10-2008: CRYPTDLG.DLL updates now up @ 1st post: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=46581 Tx a lot sleffing. I will make iexpress installers for these files soon, and will post them here when ready. P.S.: Seems that [most of] the files at my web site have been restored [finally!]. Please let me know if any1 discovers any files/links that still do not work at www.mdgx.com , so I can contact my web site provider to have them fixed. Best wishes.
  6. 1. Maximus-Decim's MDIE6CU installs DXM9X according to his log:http://www.msfn.org/board/Maximus-Decim-In...-Co-t97816.html Quoted: That means installing MDIE6CU also installs DXM9X.2. IE6UPD is an older IE cumulative update [similar to MDIE6CU] but older, has not been updated lately to my knowledge: http://www.msfn.org/board/Unofficial-Inter...dat-t82003.html the_guy's last post says October 2007 was last update he made to IE6UPD. 8. Hi everybody, My web site provider screwed up a huge number of files + folders at my site in the last 3 weeks, and I can't even access them using ftp [they changed permissions on the server]. I'm still waiting for them to fix this, their tech support is extremely slow. I'll let you guys know when my site will be back 100%. Best wishes, MDGx
  9. Sorry for the delay! My site was down because of server problems. It was supposed to be fixed quicly...Anyway, the link should work now. Got it.Many thanks. Cool pic, BTW... 10. Anonymous author of several patches sent this about Win98 SE Smartdrv: Therefore, if using Windows 95, 98 or 98 SE [any edition] and/or MS-DOS 5/6/7/8, I strongly recommend to install the fixed SMARTDRV.EXE from WinME, which is also installed by 98SE2ME options 1 + 2:http://www.mdgx.com/98-5.htm#KRM9S Windows ME setup CD-ROM is needed to copy SMARTDRV.EXE to your hard drive. 14. Hi. Are we talking about the nvagp.INF file to identify the card? I can confirm the card ID is present and the correct model is identified when updating the drivers, the problem occurs when this update is complete. I also have to update the drivers by using the "Specify the location of the driver (Advanced)" option, rather than using the install package. If there is a way to update the actual installed driver to change power settings etc, is there any guidance on what to change? Ta Yeah, the NVAGP.INF file.IMO: To my knowledge the power settings [if you refer to: Control Panel -> Power] are built into the Windows OS, and should not be influenced by video drivers. Try these troubleshooting techniques [now part of the ReadMe]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/nv8269.php * In case you experience stand by/doze off/suspend to.../shut down/power off errors/General Protection Faults (GPFs)/lockups, turn off all BIOS video settings: Reboot -> press the BIOS setup key/key combo (F2, Del etc, depending on BIOS brand/model) when you see the BIOS Power On Self Test (POST) screen -> DISABLE/turn OFF "System BIOS Cacheable", "Video BIOS Cacheable", "Video BIOS Shadowing", "Video RAM Cacheable" AND "Video ROM Cache" -> reboot. Your motherboard BIOS may or may not have all these options, and some of their names may be different. Disable/turn off the ones you have. More info: http://www.techarp.com/freebog.aspx * In case you experience stand by/doze off/suspend to.../shut down/power off errors/lockups, turn off all Power settings: Start button -> Control Panel -> Power Management -> Power schemes: -> scroll to "Always On" -> Turn off monitor: -> scroll to "Never" -> Turn off hard disks: -> scroll to "Never" -> click the Apply/OK button. * In case you experience stand by/doze off/suspend to.../shut down/power off errors/General Protection Faults (GPFs)/lockups, turn off some of the video "Hardware acceleration" settings [see paragraph 4]: http://www.mdgx.com/newtip17.htm#WDVS I'm afraid that to actually hex-edit the drivers you need NVidia's white papers/source code, and low level hardware driver programming skills. 18. Have you tried DiskMinder [abandoned Helix tools], for DOS + Windows: http://www.mdgx.com/files/DISKMIND.EXE ReadMe 1st: http://www.mdgx.com/files/diskmind.php Found here: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#TLS HTH
  19. As you well pointed out, system memory has nothing to do with video memory. But please do not abandon the unofficial NVidia 82.69 drivers installer: http://www.mdgx.com/files/nv8269.php File [14.5 MB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/NV8269.EXE because that is the last ever driver released by NVidia [or anyone else] for 9x/ME OSes, and the only one that supports newer GF 7xxx + 8xxx series cards and widescreen LCD monitors. What you can do, is test them, and eventually add/modify the INF [found in %windir%\INF in the subfolder named after your NVidia card] to make it compatible with newer GF cards. Or you can extract the files as explained here: http://www.mdgx.com/files/nv8269.php and play around with the INF. Then please send me the modded INF, and I'll recompile the drivers installer again. Thanks for your time + concern. HTH
  20. I haven't managed to get back to Win98 SE with my new PC = mobo ICH9 chipset and DDR2 RAM not compatible. So I can't do anything with any 9x updates/packs/projects unless I test them in a virtual environment, and MS Virtual PC 2004 is too slow, and Virtual PC 2007 is even slower. I haven't tried VirtualBox yet. Therefore, I have to wait until I build another PC with an older mobo that supports 9x OSes. HTH

  22. Hmm... I installed the March 2008 Redist recently with no problems... It started, copied some updated Managed DirectX files, and ended successfully... Not sure why yours fails... DirectX cannot be 'uninstalled' since it is an integral part of Windows, so you can't remove it and reinstall it... What is your Windows version? 98, 98SE, Me? Also, what update packs (if any) have been installed - like Auto-Patcher 98SE, Unofficial 98SE Service Pack, Revolutions Pack 7, 98SE2ME, and so on? DirectX 9.0c files for Win9x/ME are not included in the March 2008 DX release.Actually they are not included begining with the Jan 2007 release. Last official DX for 9x/ME OSes is Dec 2006. All you installed was a couple of MDX reg entries [which are useless to Win9x/ME OSes, because DX has not been updated for these OSes since Dec 2006], nothing else. Last DX release compatible with 9x/ME OSes is here [please see which OSes each applies to]: http://www.mdgx.com/dx.htm#DX9 respectively: - unofficial, updated to August 2007 [includes a few MDX files and reg entries, which were not in the Dec 2006 release]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/DX90C.EXE - official, Dec 2006: http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/c...2006_redist.exe HTH
