This is 1 way to do this: http://www.mdgx.com/newtip12.htm#CACHRAM But if you're inclined towards tweaking the registry, here are the REG keys + values: The ones in red are modified to point to a RAM [or any other valid drive/partition] drive. You can "play" with them further of course, to adapt to your preferences. Do not confuse system RAM with video RAM, they are completely separate entities. System RAM (DRAM) or memory is the amount of memory on your motherboard [memory chips/sticks]. Video RAM [DDR(2 or 3) or GRAM or GDDR(2 or 3) etc] is the amount of memory on your video card/controller. AGP [Accelerated Graphics Port, trademarked by Intel] = the video port through which the video controller connects to your motherboard. Most BIOSes that support AGP, have a setting [AGP Aperture Size, AGP Shared Memory etc, depending on the mobo type/model] to adjust the amount of shared system memory which is used by the video controller, on top of the video card's own video memory. Usually, these settings are 32, 64, 128, 256, 512 MB etc, depending on how much system memory you have on your motherboard. You can adjust this shared memory amount to whatever you wish [up to about 1/2 of your system memory], but it cannot be decreased to less than 32 or 64 MB on most mobos. For example, if your vid card has 512 MB memory, you should decrease the shared AGP memory in your BIOS to the smallest value available. If your vid card has little video memory, lets' say only 64 MB, you should increase the shared AGP memory in the BIOS to ~ 128 MB or even 256 MB, depending on how much system memory you have, and on what kind of graphics intensive programs/games you use. Save your BIOS changes and reboot. 1. Indeed it does, Q933360 replaces Q931836.Added this to the 8-27-2007 update: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46581 2. I've updated MSE 5.7: please see 9-3-2007 update: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46581 Hopefully it will run ok now. See also unofficial MSE 5.6 [install it in case MSE 5.7 doesn't work]: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#MSE 3. MP936782 does not replace MP917734, because MP917734 is for WMP71, not for WMP9. BTW: I've fixed MP936782, now installs also on Win98 (FE) + 98 SP1. Windows 98 (FE) + 98 SP1 require Unofficial WMP9 already installed: http://www.mdgx.com/wmp.htm#WMP9 WMP90_98.EXE is a repackaged WMP9 which installs on all Win98 editions. Many thanks for the mods.I'll add USER.EXE 4.90.3001 to 98SE2ME soon. Keep up the good work. -
Sounds like your mobo BIOS setup is limited to 32 MB video "shared" memory, which is taken from system RAM and "shared" with your AGP video controller [must be AGP, PCI can't share memory, and PCIe (PCI express) works in a different way]. IMO = 2 solutions: 1. Go to your mobo vendor/manufacturer web/ftp site and download + install the current BIOS firmware upgrade for your specific mobo. It might give you more options to increase the amount of video memory beyond 32 MB. 2. If #1 not available, ask a programmer friend who knows low level hardware programming to hex your BIOS firmware and try to add more options (if possible). But this is not as easy as it seems, and is potentially *risky*, it can fry your computer mobo if not done right. my 2 ¢ HTH [Hope This Helps]

To my knowledge video card memory should not make any difference, no matter which OS you're using. It is system memory (DRAM = Dynamic RAM) you should worry about. 98 SE + ME Oses support [depending on your specific hardware] up to 2 GB of RAM, but it's tricky, and you need a few system.ini + registry tricks to make it work. There are a bunch of topics in this forum that discuss these RAM issues. HTH

I have removed MSE 5.7 for NT4 [sCR57NT.EXE].Thanks. I have revised SCR579X.EXE to install all files in %windir%\system , similar to the way they do on NTx OSes. I added INF code to properly register all files to %windir%\SYSTEM . Also, I've replaced DISPEX.DLL + WSHOM.OCX with the older ones from MSE 5.6, seems to work better that way. Uninstall is available, if needed: Start button -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> select "Unofficial Scripting Engines (MSE) 5.7 = Restore MSE 5.6" -> click Add/Remove button -> reboot. Please d/l + install again, and test if works ok on 98/98 SE/ME: Unofficial MSE 5.7 5.7.0.16535 for Windows 98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME [714 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/SCR579X.EXE And if everything else fails, there's always MSE 5.6: Unofficial MSE 5.6 5.6.0.8832 for Windows 98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME [665 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/SCR569X.EXE Thanks. MDGx replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
In fact, i found that vb scripts [like msgbox("Hello World")] do not work anymore. Haven't tested JavaScripts. Moreover, CScript.exe is now in \windows\system (was in \windows\command), but registry entries weren't updated to point to \windows\system (because your registry update flags indicate 'do not overwrite') and thus "Program Not Found" dialog pops up. I have revised MSE 5.7, I replaced DISPEX.DLL with older 5.6.6626 and WSHOM.OCX with 5.6.8825 from MSE 5.6 [better compatibility], looks like it works better now. I've also made sure cscript.exe registry values are updated, so the OS "knows" it is in %windir%\system . SCR579X backs up MSE 5.6 files by renaming them to *.56 . SCR579X can be uninstalled easily [just in case]: Start button -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> select "Unofficial Scripting Engines (MSE) 5.7 = Restore MSE 5.6" -> click Add/Remove button -> reboot. Please test and let me know. Thanks. is XML parser included in an update package?
MDGx replied to Molecule's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Actually the way MSXML4 is distributed by M$, it cannot be installed on Windows 98/98 SE/ME systems. But the official MSI file inside the installer exe can. Here it is... I have tested 3.0 alpha 2. My findings + suggestions: 1. The 2 [short] to 4 [long] digit date tweak changed my custom sShortDate value in WIN.INI [and probably in the registry too] from: sShortDate=M·d·yy to: sShortDate=M/d/yyyy I had to change it back after I installed 3.0 alpha 2. 2. Your MSASN1.DLL has different date/time stamp [older] and file size [smaller] than the one I have. Yours: 53520 bytes March 5 2004 Mine: 53592 bytes April 8 2005 I recall erpdude8 sent it to me a while back. The newer msasn1.dll is available as part of CRYPT9X.EXE [666 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/CRYPT9X.EXE 3. Your EXTRAC32.EXE [installed into %windir%] is older [from XP SP2 = 5.1.2600.2180] than the 1 installed by 98SE2ME [from 2003 Server = 5.2.3790.0]. If you want newer extrac32.exe [25 KB]: EXTR32.ZIP 4. You added RUNHELP.CAB from RUNHELP.EXE , but you did not add the improved HTMLHELP.HTM. This htmlhelp.htm is better, because it detects if: - Javascript is disabled = must be enabled for this to work. - the HTM was opened in any other browser than IE = this works only with IE. If using any other browser than IE, the user can see the instructions on how to (re)open the HTM again in IE, so the script can work. - original HTM leaves the web page open [annoying], even after the user has closed WINDOWS.CHM = mine closes the HTM automatically in 30 seconds [even if the user doesn't close it manually] after the user has closed windows.chm. If you want to add HTMLHELP.HTM = part of RUNHELP.EXE [107 KB, please download it again, I have updated it]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/RUNHELP.EXE 5. You are still using the old EXPLORER.EXE 4.72.3612.1700 . Erpdude8 sent me a newer one a while back = 4.72.3612.1710 . EXPLOR98.EXE installs the newer file, which is already modded with the 256 colors fix and contains the "Windows 98 SE" Start banner [172 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/EXPLOR98.EXE 6. Anonymous author sent me the fixed WINFILE.EXE 4.10.1999 = installs as part of WINFIL98.EXE [320 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/WINFIL98.EXE 7. Your NOTEPAD.EXE is older [4.10.1998] than the one erpdude8 made [4.10.1999] = fixed the problem with opening files > 64 KB = now redirects correctly to open them with Wordpad. The newer one installs as part of Notepad fix [121 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/NPUPDW98.EXE 8. I haven't seen ESDI_506.PDR 4.10.2225 modded by LLXX with support for HDs > 137 GB. 3.0 alpha 2 still installs older ESDI_506.PDR 4.10.2225 [original by M$]. 9. I got an error mesage that notepad.exe was not found in %windir% [C:\W98 in my case]. To avoid such errors, you may wish to change the script to a batch file which does not specify the path for notepad [if the path would not be specified, the installer would have found it, I have notepad.exe on another drive + directory, both included in the PATH]. For example you can use this line in a batch file: IF EXIST READ1ST.TXT NOTEPAD.EXE READ1ST.TXT I use something similar in HOSTS0.EXE [670 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/HOSTS0.EXE Open HOSTS0.EXE in WinZIP or any other unzipper to extract/view its files. Open ZHOST0.BAT in Notepad to see the command line I'm talking about. This might also work if using a "RunPostSetupCommands" directive in your INF (example): [Version] Signature=$CHICAGO$ AdvancedINF=2.5 [DefaultInstall] RunPostSetupCommands=RP:1 [RP] "NOTEPAD.EXE READ1ST.TXT" If this doesn't work as above, you may want to replace the command: "NOTEPAD.EXE READ1ST.TXT" with a batch file that does the same thing (example): [RP] READ1ST.BAT READ1ST.BAT lines (example): @ECHO OFF IF EXIST READ1ST.TXT NOTEPAD.EXE READ1ST.TXT CLS EXIT Keep up the good work. HTH [Hope This Helps]

And why not you? I've tried oa2k.dll from VB6-KB924053-x86-ENU.exe (update for 2000) and it seems to work.OA2K.DLL needs to be renamed to OLEAUT32.DLL and placed into %windir%\SYSTEM .I've tried it too, and got errors while using MS IE 6.0 SP1. But Script (MSE) 5.7 works ok with Win98 SE [+ MS IE 6.0 SP1], so does WMP9 WMP.DLL, VGX.DLL, IE 6.0 SP1 Cumulative Patch and MSXML4.MSI. All available here: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46581 Have fun.
