  1. What specific key do you mean? But if you don't have the permissions to change a key, then you could try to edit the permissions of the key, and thén make the changes. If that doesn't work, I don't believe you can do what you wantl
  2. One more thing: I don't have any instance of notepad2 in my registry. I think you might have played around already with this notepad2-thing! That's why I suggest to replace all instances of notepad with metapad (or whatever) when you've just installed windows! Anyway, the reason I use this method is because I have a more flexible CD this way. For example if I use this CD at a friends house, then that person may not want to have this metapad! "Metapad.. was that? "
  3. You shouldn't add the part with the & (Ampersand), because that way it will give an error! Example, I use this to disable my PC-speaker: Devcon disable ACPI\PNP0800 or you could use this: Devcon disable *\PNP0800 Actually, this command to check for IDs is better: Devcon hwids *
  4. Offtopic: What's does it matter if your Thai or not? Do you practise Muay Thai? I do!
  5. Firewall: I am behind a NAT router, that's safe too right? Anti-Virus: Kaspersky Advanced Windows Tuning: My own imported tweaks Download Utilities: Firefox built-in dl-manager E-Mail: Gmail webmail! Webdesign: Notepad.exe (die-hard ) Graphics Development: Mspaint (also die-hard ) Hex-editor: Hexplorer Media: Media Player Classic with Ffdshow-filters I'd also like to know what are your favourite hex-editors?
  6. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;EN-US;Q311272 You want this command-line tool. With this tool you can disable devices in a script! Use something like: devcon disable device_id With devcon find * you see all the device_ids!
  7. What I do for steam: My windows partition is C, and I installed steam in D. As I reinstall my computer, then I move the SteamApps folder out of the Steam installation folder. Then I uninstall or remove Steam. On re-install I only install the steam-application. After that I move the SteamApps folder back in the Steam folder, so that I don't have to download another daunting 7 GB again. I have a Steam-purchased account, but I believe this also applies for Disc-versions. As for the rest of your games, most registry entries are stored under HKLM\Software\[software Developer]\[Game Name] and HKCU\Software\[software Developer]\[Game Name]
  8. Could be me, but if AVG supports real-time protection (so that every incoming file will be scanned) then why should you want to scan Messenger?
  9. PEbuilder is for building your own copy of BartPE. BartPE is a free alternative to WinPE. WinPC does not exist! Bart has made that because normal people cannot use WinPE. Read it here: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/#legal
  10. Something else you could do: Create a self-extracting package (win32 gui) with winrar (or 7-zip), add your cmd-file and CMDOW.EXE, and then make sure the package silently extracts to a temp-directory and after that executes your cmd-file. The last instruction in your cmd-file should delete the file! You cannot UPX this file because you get an AlreadyCompressed exception...
  11. I personally don't like to replace notepad.exe itself, so I run a command-line tool that replaces all instances of notepad in metapad in the registry! (And I put metapad.exe in the system32 and windows folder!) I use this tool: http://www.resplendence.com/rrcomline (20-day trial)
  12. What are you doing here? This isn't correct: From this one... (4^2) - 2 * 4 * (9/2) + [(9/2)^2] = (5^2) - 2 * 5 * (9/2) + [(9/2)^2] ...to this one! [4 - (9/2)]^2 = [5 - (9/2)]^2
  13. The link's not broken, it seems like the server's overloaded.
  14. You're looking for this program: http://www.regxplor.com/ Free, integrates into Explorer and you have an address-bar!
  15. What's up with these commercial reg-cleaner programs? You're so incredibly stupid if you bought one of these.. I mean you need to pay for something to clean up something that's caused by windows or programs that don't clean up their mess... And you probably won't notice a speedgain... defragmentating the register-files will do you more benefit!
  16. If you need to do it manually, remove your WINXP CD and you execute this command from a CMD: del notepad.exe /f /s /q /a Now place your own version of notepad.exe in the folders where notepad.exe was deleted. You can do this with every Windows file you want.
  17. http://www.tinyapps.org/ This site has many many small applications! All freeware, and a lot don't need to be installed! A 15kb command-line http-downloader! http://www.diamondcs.com.au/downloads/httpget.zip
  18. RRC (Registrar for the Command line) [information] [Download] This is a command-line registry editor (far more features then REG.EXE). For example you can search-and-replace! I use it for replacing all instances of notepad with metapad and I put metapad.exe in system32 so everything is opened with my new text-editor! Only downside is that it's shareware, because you can only use it for 20 days! However I found out which key helds this information so I use the very same program to delete this key and keep my 20-day period!
  19. Okay it seems like there's no way to get App Paths working for CMD.
  20. They replaced the movie with an commercial! Those bastards! However.. who knows a file-dump site? I still have it on my computer!
  21. @Prathapml: It seems like the "App Paths" method does work, but not from a CMD prompt! Okay it does work for example for the "Run..." screen, but I also want to use it in CMD-files etcetera! Do you know a work-around for this? (I don't prefer the use of the PATH-enviroment variable... this isn't really maintainable).
  22. @ IRP: Okay I understand it now! Thanks! The modified start-post is now very clear! I have a small comment though: viamatch should be viamach in your start-post!
  23. @ jaclaz and Shotgun: Foxit is really great! What a small program and I can view every PDF file! I can even search and select-copy text! In only 1 Megabyte! Thanks! Beat that Adobe !
  24. @IRP: I can't believe this to be true... an INF-file contains information about the drivers and a CAT file is a signature from Microsoft. You say you only need these 2 files. But where are the actual drivers then?
