I dont know why people have problems with Avast its a simple switch /VERYSILENT works everytime.
-
You should just repack the program its easy to do. Just do the following 1: Install AvancedInstaller from http://www.advancedinstaller.com/ 2:: Install ultraedit 11a the normal way and enter your serial number. 2: Create a folder called "ultraedit" in your C: drive. 3: Copy all files from "C:\Program Files\IDM Computer Solutions\UltraEdit-32" to "C:\ultraedit" 4: Download and extract the below build file and save it in C: drive 5: Right click the build file and select Build 6: In about 5 seconds you will have a silent .msi file to install with. I have tested this out for you and i know it works, if you have different drive letters jjust open the build file and edit it. kenny

You Say Tomato And I Say…Tomahto well its the other way round but anyways Your happy with what you use and im happy with what I use lets leave it it that. I am just an informer trying to inform people about this new information.

Are you implying that im stupid or something . Seriously though i can build bartpe but cant be bothered adding all the plugings and stuff. I dont use the ext2/ext3 filesystem i use reiserfs, and you cant have write access to them with bartpe I learn something new everyday, but can you update all the programs and windows updates in bartpe from within the CD itself. Dont think you can. My hate for windows is greater than my love for linux which is a really strong love btw Peace, love and understanding

But it is the best as your list proves. I been using that version too and it has saved my life many a time but i couldn't get read/write access working for any of my liux/fat32 drives easily but this version (3.8) is simple its just right click and select write acces. That project has come over leaps and bounds, i remember looking at that a while ago and it looked like plain old windows98 (which isnt a bad thing), but it looks gorgeous now.As for the NTFS write support is it really needed, yes it would be usefull i admit but i just like the fact that i can access all my drives back up my files on both my windows partitions and linux ones and also recover my linux box easily when i screw it up. As i said before i spent 5 hours using this Live Cd listening to mp3s, browsing the web, watching videos, Yahoo/MSN messenger without the need for switching to windows and anything that i couldn't do i could update/install programs to do the job thanks to UnionFS support. I am seriously considering replacing my Ubuntu box with Knoppix 3.8. I tried to get bartpe build working but i couldn't for some reason, also i doubt it would reconise my Linux partitions. I also wondered about hardware compatibility could i use bartpe build on a wide range of old and new hardware or is it only for use on the machine that it was built for. kenny

Slashdot says that it can read/write to ntfs but i havnt tested it, i will check and get back to u. I dont have Sata drives but reports on the net suggest that knoppix 3.8 supports sata drives. Knoppix has the latest version of ALSA (The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) so it is a possibility that it could work. It also includeds UnionFS which lets u update knoppix with new drivers and programs. It cant hurt to download and give it a try. I like this version mainly because i can now browse the net with it and safe configuration files to my fat32 disk. kenny

Hi guys Iv downloaded Knoppix Live CD 3.8 and have been using it for the last five hours, it is brilliant. It lets you access all your windows partions, burns cd plus much more. It is excellent for recovery/back up purposes for both Windows and Linux users, i highly recommend it. # KDE V3.x as the standard desktop, with KOffice and the Konqueror WWW browser. # X Multimedia System (xmms) with MPEG video and MP3 support as well as the Ogg Vorbis Audio Player # Internet-access software kppp and isdn-utilities # Gnu Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) Version 2.0 # Tools for data rescue and system repair # Network analysis and administration tools # OpenOffice 1.1.x, the GPL'd version of the well-known StarOffice office suite # Many programming languages, development tools, as well as libraries for software developers. # Altogether, over 900 installed software packages, comprising over 2000 executable user programs, utilities, and games. Don't know if im allowed to do this but i will add the torrent file for people to download this wonderful piece of software. This installs the german version by default but to install English version type the following. knoppix lang=us Another thing is that the default keyboard layout is German (i think) so type the following. knoppix lang "Shift+0" us Change the file extention of the file from .txt to .torrent kenny

disable System Restore during install?
kwpro replied to feochango's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
You can use nlite to remove it completely. -
I have recently downloaded the updates from windowsupdate.com, the only problem i had was that microsoft dosn't let you download .NET framework hotfix directly from there website, only from windowsupdate.com. here is how to retrieve the file and then perform a silent install. 1: Select and download only the .NEt framework update patch from windowsupdate.com 2: Go to C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download and select the file "535f57e5a8eceab18533c50c0b0e1469ed45331f". this file is 1,541kb in size. 3: Copy to your desktop and add the extention .exe to file. 4: Create a shortcut file with the switch "/xp" it will ask were to save the file, save it to the desktop. 5: the file it extacts is a .msp file and the silent install switch for this file is "/q /norestart". I havn't tested this on a uninstall cd so i dont know if it works, please give feedback if it does work. P.S I have just noticed i havn't spelled silent correctly in the topic header, please hit me with eggs now. kenny

client for microsoft networks remove with script?
kwpro replied to kwpro's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Both, i install Windows XP on a lot of my friends computers and it is a pain to do everything manually. The option was giving to me to remove the services in the winnt.sif, but it didn't work. i believe i used microsoft's own unattened program to do it. -
I think nLite can do i, im not sure i used microsofts own unattended software to do it for me. I think this is what yoou need in your winnt.sif file: [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword="password" EncryptedAdminPassword=Yes AutoLogon=Yes AutoLogonCount=1 OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=85 OemSkipWelcome=1 kenny

Hi guys i have tried searching the net and the forums but i cant find the answer that im looking for. I would like to create a cmd/exe file that will remove network services automatically for example "client for Microsoft networks" & "File and Printer sharing for Microsoft networks". i can do this manually but it would be easier and quicker if i can create a script to do it. Thanks in advanced. Kenny

All program that i use work fine, but the "cant upload huge files" may be a worry. Does this only only effect Windows program or all programs. PS thanks for the reply kenny

Yuk. kenny -
You canuse Nlite or XPlite to remove the IE front end and keep the core of IE installed. But i wouldnt advise removing the Core of IE as it will lead to blood sweat and tears.

hi guys i was wondering is anyone here has used SecureIt & Harden-it on there computer, iv recently found out about them and installed them both. From the outside they seem good programs for securing the system but i will like other people opinions about them, do they do what they say on tin. I already secured my computer manually but the programs said they secured things that i haven't heard before so i was just wondering. kenny
