Tomasz86, Thank you for your reply. That's really unfortunate. Is there a way to show it without resorting to a program(s)? Not that I don't love SourceForge!

Hello, I am wondering why Windows XP (SP3?) does not show the size of a selected folder in the status bar? I was told that Windows 95 does show the size, but my Windows 98SE installation exhibits the same behavior as XP SP3 (no status displayed). Is there a way to get it to show? Or is this another instance of Microsoft brutally murdering another useful feature for no apparent reason?

Why Windows Vista (SP1+) is Better Than Windows 7
UltimateSilence replied to UltimateSilence's topic in Windows Vista
Tomasz86, that's amazing! I'm going to try it out tomorrow. Thank you for sharing. I felt bad because Vista was left out. -
--JorgeA Thank you for sharing, JorgeA. I think my favorite part was this: Mind you, it isn't my favorite because its a good thing (it's not), but because what he is writing is true. Wonder what Windows 9 will be like... or will there be a Windows version after 8? Microsoft might finish the job by then.

IMHO, WIndows XP is the next best thing (perhaps even better due to it having more features). I run Windows 98SE and Windows XP on the same desktop computer, and it really is hard to notice a difference between the two at times.

is there a complete guide to make Win7 look and behave as much as poss
UltimateSilence replied to colore's topic in Windows 7
There is a compilation of guides available at http://www.thejendra...indows7toXP.htm -
Troxy, Thank you for sharing! I actually looked for this sort of info the other day on the Microsoft site, but I couldn't find anything (maybe I didn't search hard enough).

Ah, just my two cents, but if the advice above doesn't help, you could try... Internet Options -> Advanced tab -> Reset Internet Explorer settings. There is also an option to delete personal settings, but this also removes any customization.

I do like what they're doing with Explorer (Ribbon!) I feel that there are real improvements, but since the Metro UI is forced, enhancing Explorer seems almost trivial. What, aren't you into upgrading your computers with an exciting new OS that does things you don't care about (Metro tiles), and doesn't do what boring old OS's do (play DVDs, record TV)? Shame on you! It sure would be interesting to hear what Bill G thinks about all this. --JorgeA I found something, perhaps related to Windows 8! EDIT: Alright, maybe it wasn't recent...But the comparison is especially true with Windows 8.

Another Longhorn feature (idea) that wasn't included in the final release (Windows Vista). http://www.istartedsomething.com/20090627/windows-longhorns-aero-snap-circa-2005/ Just wanted to share...

TechNet has an article in its library related to this error. MSDN: Bug Check 0x9A: SYSTEM_LICENSE_VIOLATION Interestingly, there is a topic at Bleeping Computer regarding this error and MalwareBytes'.

Microsoft Publication Service Device Host
UltimateSilence replied to UltimateSilence's topic in Windows Vista
Thank you, Andre. I've seen that link before, but it doesn't really answer my question... I don't know why the Service "randomly" appeared. EDIT: I turned the Function Discovery Resource Publication service off and that seems to have fixed the problem. The "device host" no longer appears in my network folder. I am surprised that there isn't more material on this. -
Hello, I have an odd question. What is the Microsoft Publication Service? This appeared on my Vista computer last night, when I tried to connect to a Windows 7 computer. I have successfully connected to the Windows 7 computer before, and this "Device Host" hasn't appeared.

Just taken.

The bottom and right-hand side have blue "lines". I am wondering if this is intentional or not?
-
I was looking for information about Windows Vista, and I came across a site that listed supposed bugs, etc. and I found this. Notice the blue lines across the bottom and right hand side? ...I am wondering if this is supposed to happen? If not, has Microsoft released a fix? My apologies for the stupid question.

There is a topic related to Microsoft Office Error 1935 in Windows Vista on the Microsoft Answers site. Also, From the Microsoft Support site: Error message when you try to install an Office program: "Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly component": http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926804

Best Web Browser(s) for Windows XP in 2012
UltimateSilence replied to helpdesk98's topic in The Poll Center
As RJM mentioned, Pale Moon (preferably 9)! I would vote for Opera but it isn't fun when you have to block items manually. -
Isn't there a way to modify the files in 7 for Vista though? I know it sounds silly, but it has been on my mind for almost two months now. I wouldn't mind paying...
-
Tomasz86, Thank you for the reply. Actually, I meant...literally backporting the feature to Windows Vista (i.e., without third-party programs). I was hoping that since Vista and 7 are so similar that there would be a way to do it.
-
Hello, Is it possible to backport Windows 7's Aero Shake, Aero Snap, and Aero Peek features to Windows Vista?
-
I am assuming that mainstream Windows Vista SP2 support will end in April of this year? However, this article states... I am hoping it is true. Vista deserves longer mainstream support...
-
And since the outbound ports are assigned dynamically, it doesn't seem you are going to be successful. Do you have a backup plan? Cheers and Regards I do not have a backup plan. But thank you for all of your help!

I just don't like it. Not really-really a mistery like Lochness : http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/archive/b/windowsvista/archive/2007/06/13/the-devil-is-in-the-details.aspx jaclaz Thanks, Jaclaz! I had hoped it was only on the Business disc... I wonder if the Windows 7 disc has a photo, too?
