  1. to do this, you'd edit the hive file. its actually very simple.

    RamDrive

could always grab a gigabye iram, and trow 1GB in it.
  3. yes, I am sorry about that. System Volume Information can be eliminated? how would one go about doing that? without it remaking itself? Personally it normally says write proteced, cannot delete, even in a seperate windows from the parition your deleting it from. wouldn't like a boot cd like, bartpe , be perfect in this situation? if all thats needed is logging in?
  4. beta 2.5 will be in testers hands b4 next friday beta 3.0 will be shortly after that. beta 3.0, should be a windows xp, that cannot be accidently infected with any malware/virus/spyware and not need to a firewall. the above is not just talk, it has been tested already, and all I can do now, is get people to test whether this is true when microwinX goes public with beta 3.0 newly added software support 3dmark05 windows media player 10 ffdshow
  5. a 20MB xp, is no more than a bloated dos (hahaha it was just to bug aegis) anyway, 2 project on these forums are in the works, that you'd enjoy microwinX and XP Gamer Edition. microwinX being the smaller.
  6. yes if beta 2.5 proves to work well. it will become beta 3.0, with just a few changes, and added software support. 2.5 is going out to 5 testers or so, and 3.0 is public. personally I will be testing beta 2.5 on 4 differnet platforms. or atleast try to. these will be nf4 with nvraid, nvidia sli and dual core amd64 nf3 with ide, ati 9X00 series and socket 754 am64 intel celeron emachine with intel extreme graphics (onboard) ati chipset with onboard video and a socket 939 amd64 single core and if my dad isn't too scared, an intel p4 laptop with HT technology and mobile 9700 ati card. for sli users, i can now confirm, sli is working. this was tested under 3dmark05
  7. ok good news, beta 3.0 will launch along with the microwinx install guide. @max2 well thank you
  8. @Windows X , that just isn't true, 2k3, when nlited with the exact same settings as xp, uses close to 10MB more resouces. so what you are saying, is ntoskrnl.exe is all that speeds things up? if so why not just use 2k3 ntoskrnl.exe and hack it for xp, then xp is would use less resources that 2k3, and be just as fast. but anyway, I do agree, there is something in 2k3, that does work better with server programs. But in the end arn't you changing it right back to xp, by changing the settings? cept for a few altered files? anyway, I hope to see what microwinX can do for 2k3, since if there really is an improvement, someones is gonna wanna use it, personally ill keep my licence for xp home oem.
  9. a beefy windows will always have its uses. but in the end, the best windows to use, has only what you need to do what you want left.

ok, how is it messed up? you pointed to it with the boot.ini? if so, then it should work without a hitch, personally I do this all the time, when its on the same hardware, just copy the entire example . g drive to f drive (where f:\ was the origional driver letter) connect to it with boot.ini and its like i ghosted it lol.

yah, it would depend on whether or not, you have oobe left in windows. also, you found the problem, basically, move that windows to the partition letter it was before, or it will not boot cause program files, is in the wrong spot, common program files is in the wrong spot etc.

    cant login

did u not activate, and the date changed? cause thats what happens to me in that case if you think this is the case, your gonna need a patched winlogon which will get you back in.
  13. basically, the memory problems are in the motherboard itself. pretty much the 4V jumper has been removed, and I cant turn it back on, casue the bios has no option for it. If I went back to the expert bios, i'd have issues where unpluging the computer, would result in reseting the bios, (not anymore) email would timeout about 50X b4 I could actually get the email to recieve. normally 10 at a time.
  14. ok, i got 2.8ghz stable. using the newest beta of dfi nf4 "venus" bios on my expert board. the venus bios fixed all my issue with the expert board. but my board is broke, meaning it wont do over 3.2V on the memory anymore, so I am waitin to upgrade to a 2GB kit. probbally gonna sell my muskin redline xp4000 2-2-2-6 3.3V-3.5V kit on ebay, since it not for sale, made or anything anymore.
  15. cool, but, whats the point? what does 2k3 do that windows xp wouldn't for a gamer. other than use more memory.
  16. basically you want to copy your notepad2.exe which would be found in %programfiles%\notepad2\notepad2.exe to do this you'd start with copy %programfiles\notepad2\notepad2.exe %windir%\system32\dllcache\notepad.exe copy %programfiles\notepad2\notepad2.exe %windir%\system32\notepad.exe copy %programfiles\notepad2\notepad2.exe %windir%\notepad.exe
  17. @glent heh, yah I know. it probbaly wont make public in q1 but I am set at getting beta 2.5 to testers b4 q1 out is out. oh and public and beta 2.5 are one in the same now, if 2.5 works good, it public a week later. @shix, you never left the beta list, ur still on there from beta 2 @aegis since you brought it up, what would you consider a good method of showing benifits? boot times filmed? microwinX on the best computer to an emachine? or should I be breaking out the old p1 233 and see if I get that to boot microwinX in 15 seconds. a video of me tryin to infect microwinX with thousands of virus' connect to a bacth file of coarse (my wrist would hurt after all the double clicking) should I ask a team of hackers to try to get into a microwinX box w/o a nat router and w/o a software/hardware firewall running? I could go on, but I think u get the picture el0el btw none of this will be done until its been publicly rls'd
  18. hey dirt, yah, you'll be the first person I send it when 2k has been tested
  19. hey btw this guide worked for me, with both xp sp2, and xp x64 sp1 using an nforce4 sli, and 4 sata II drives on the sata II controller. also I dont got a floppy drive, glad this guide was here
  20. try running memory on a different divider (less) if that dont help, force looser timings. ddr 2 uses lots less volts then ddr. so dont push the volts too much. lets say, timings are 4-4-4-12 try 5-5-5-15 also check the bios for things like cpc or command per clock set that to 2 also. check in memtest again using test 5 and 8. then if those are error free for 10 passes each, then your problems will no doubt be gone.
  21. beta 2.5 is a private rls, to a select few (like 5 ppl) which will turn into beta 3.0 (public) after about a week of private testing. and about the request of benifits, I am sure ill get around to it when I am ready'n the public rls
  22. sorry my gramma wasn't to par there 101 anyway, the benifits will be seen when it goes public shortly. but currently. the decribed benifits were, smallest windows xp install with UI out there. security like windows has never had (defaultly ) and the lack of ability to infect your computer, even with access to the machine. I could go on, but all these question have been answered b4, this isn't a thread about microwinX , and I am wasting your time.
  23. @ripken microwinX, yes beta 2.0 would of worked fine in xpge, but, wouldn't be as small of an install as with nlite, until I test xpge and made it get the missing stuff. @Aegis 99.9% of microwinX's security has nothing to do with nlite.
  24. who every said anything about upx and reshacking? xpge is just windows xp, no matter what you call it, xp embedded, xp home , 2k3 , its all the same, when it comes to shrinkin it down. and yes, there is millions of benifits to a 37MB \windows, with all your talk about malware, I figured you'd of understood, guess you've gone another route. and what ever happened to 64bit? guess your not going that route no more?
