  1. I hope not, because I want a Quantum release. My hope is that he settles on 78 max and then makes an x64 version. I run 91 now, but I prefer Quantum to Proton
  2. See, what I’m hoping for is a working browser that is still built on Quantum and Photon. I guess that would mean building on ESR 78 or even release 89. After that was the Proton UI with floating tabs. Now many of you are using UXP builds of Serpent and New Moon, and MyPal 68 is still way more compatible than that. Doesn’t ESR 68 still provide a good deal of compatibility? Can user agents still help?
  3. I was wondering if we were going to have a thread dedicated to this subject. I'm not suggesting that I be the one to start it, especially since my use for it isn't XP-specific. But I've been longing for a Quantum browser based on ESR 60 with backported updates to use, even on Windows 8. Well, with the steeper requirements that Web Components seems to bring to the need for modern browsers, I guess v68 is as good a base to work from as any. I'm very excited about the project, and I was hoping that a dedicated thread following its progress be in place here,
  4. Well I'm on Windows 8 (yup the original release), and all new applications still work with it. So I can't see a need yet for an 8xtended Kernel
  5. Yeah but you can fetch them on the Reddit thread. I'm not sure that it's against forum rules.
  6. In fact there are postings of the conversation between Moon-Matt before Matt pulled the plug on the DNS hosting. I just downloaded the screenshots. Grab some popcorn.
  7. Looks like he has left the Pale Moon team, and while at it, gassed the PM Forum Site on his way out.
  8. I suppose I wondered if Roytam1 can continue making browsers from this base. Just curious.
  9. Pale Moon 30 has been released, and apparently, it's no longer built on UXP. Just trying it after it downloads.
  10. Just came by to see if there was any reaction to the new release of Pale Moon 30. It appears that, while it runs on the Goanna engine, Pale Moon is no longer built on UXP. I'm just trying it right now to see if any sites I was using before run now.
  11. See I like the Windows 8x style. Sure it's flat, but at least there's still a frame and the context buttons are more condensed placed
  12. The problem is though that the trickery is rendered useless upon every Vivaldi update. Then you have figure out new CSS code to rearrange tabs all over again. :(
  13. This idea comes from the Pale Moon reddit, but I think it might be a clever idea, especially for those that choose forked browsers for UI customization above all else: https://www.reddit.com/r/palemoon/comments/tde75d/palemoon_outside_chrome_inside_is_it_possible/ Think of it like IE-Tab for Chromium. It could be in the form of an extension, or a a shell for WebKit/Blink. Best to read what's there. The idea is that as Pale Moon and other forks become less compatible with the modern web, one could run a Chromium session inisde the tab of a Gecko browser. Could such a thing work?
  14. My girlfriend has a Dell XPS 8500 desktop. She has pulled it out of storage, and it's running Windows 10 (Build 1511). I tried to update past that, but I've learned it's not supported. In fact, she should be shocked the Windows 10 was able to be upgraded to in the first place. Saddens me a little, since her system works wonderfully, but she'd be in fact better (security-wise) with Windows 8.1. I know some folks have been able to fresh install Windows 10 (Build 1809) or even higher, from media onto this same system, offline. However, I really don't want to fresh install on a system that's fully working to her liking. Which brings me to this; if we leave her on 1511, and keep Google Chrome and Office 360 applications up to date, will she be REASONABLY safe? She doesn't really game, or go to risky sistes. I'm just pondering ideas.
  15. Just interested in what Roytam1 is considering, now that Moon-Matt are cancelling Basilisk. Would anyone here be interested in taking it over? I use Basilisk as a WebRTC application for work. Perhaps I should consider moving to Serpent 52, even though I'm on Windows 8.
  16. Was that you on the Windows 8 Forum that I spoke with @erpdude8?
  17. I will add that I used Windows RT for a time on a Surface tablet. Mine was based on an ARM build of Windows 8.1. Sadly, the apps store was pretty much dead by 2018, and browsing was pretty much limited to IE11, but that was still halfway usable then. I made a point of using Windows RT solely in Metro mode, so I used only apps, and tried to never go to the desktop. For that purpose, I would say Metro was a nice experience.
  18. To address jaclaz' concern that we are evaluating an OS in a FrankenState of customization, I still will concede that out of the box Windows 8 has been one of the most stable overall versions of Windows I've used. I'd follow that with Windows XP x64 Edition and Windows 2000 Professional. I'm referring to out of the box use.
  19. Exactly. I NEVER recalled NoelC saying that 7 was faster at all. Put the bong down jaclaz ... lol (kidding, but still ...lol)
  20. Flash still works after installing KB5007245 for November 2021
  21. KB5007245 was issued today, so I'll be attempting that update this evening. EDIT: Flash still works
  22. I installed the October 2021 (KB5006732) update AND ...................... Flash Works!!!!
  23. It works. I guess I was hoping for someone to guarantee it first, since I'd rather not experiment with this system. But it appears we're good. EDIT: KB5007245 was issued today, and it appears to be the same situation, so I'll chance my luck and install it this evening.
  24. From what I posted on eightforums.com .... .... I installed the October 2021 (KB5006732) update AND ...................... Flash Works!!!! I'm using Server 2012 updates to patch the original Windows 8. From what I knew, the Security Only updates for July, August and September 2021 have the Flash removal. So I am glad to see that October does not.
  25. If I download this October’s updates from the Microsoft Catalog for Windows Server 2012 or for Windows 8.1, do they still remove the built in Adobe Flash component? There has to be someone that can answer this. I last installed updates on Windows 8 back in June. I'm hoping I can skip the last three months (which include the Flash removal tool), and resume installing updates in October and November (that is provided the Flash removal tool is no longer part of the updates),
