ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use
AstroSkipper replied to AstroSkipper's topic in Windows XP
Check on the website https://browserleaks.com/ssl which TLS protocols and ciphers are supported by ProxHTTPSProxyMII 1.3a! I personally never used it. Therefore, I don't know which TLS protocols and ciphersuites are offered by this old version.- 922 replies

Compared to legacy extensions I unfortunately do. Legacy extensions are able to change the browser interface and web pages. The so called "web" extensions are not.

Here are some screenshots of Mypal 68 showing my changes to the user interface: If you want to find all changes I have made, you simply have to compare my posted images with your interface of Mypal 68. BTW, I actually do not use themes, but I am a lover of (especially black) cats and found this one. Therefore, I couldn't resist and made an exception this time. All my user interface modifications can't be done by using web extensions due to their damn restrictions in the more recent versions of Firefox. The only way is to change the source code of the browser or to inject JavaScript and CSS code into it. More about the changes I made to the user interface coming soon. Cheers, AstroSkipper

ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use
AstroSkipper replied to AstroSkipper's topic in Windows XP
@WSC4 Generally spoken, you can only connect those old programmes to external servers via ProxHTTPSProxy which use the IE engine or offer own settings to connect completely via a local proxy. Or you try to connect to ProxHTTPSProxy via SocksCap64. Have a look here: Cheers, AstroSkipper- 922 replies

ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use
AstroSkipper replied to AstroSkipper's topic in Windows XP
Hello @WSC4! Do you mean Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express? Both email clients are very old now and totally unsupported in Windows XP. Therefore, I assume they won't work with most email providers like Gmail and others in these days due to the lack of Oauth2 and other modern security implementations even if a TLS 1.2 connection to these services could be successfully established via ProxHTTPSProxy. My favourite email client for Windows XP is MailNews which works with all my used email services. These more recent email clients come with their own TLS protocols and ciphers which provide TLS 1.2 functionality at least. Using such clients means that ProxHTTPSProxy isn't needed then.- 922 replies

Mypal 68 is a great browser for all still using Windows XP. This browser is constantly being further developed and is now a real alternative if @roytam1's browsers can't cope with certain websites. And for those who miss the old Firefox user interface, there are ways to change the appearance of Mypal 68. In my first post of this thread, I already described how to activate the use of JavaScript scripts and CSS stylesheets in Mypal 68 by adding uc.js and css files. The last week, I have done that more deeply and changed the user interface to get rid of all personally perceived annoyances. I deleted and modified different elements and added new to the user interface. However, as I've mentioned before, I am not a professional programmer, more of a hobby coder, but I do have some JavaScript and CSS knowledge to make and implement such changes. And I have expanded my knowledge considerably. In the next post, I will then upload screenshots of my browser window to give you an impression of what I have already changed. Cheers, AstroSkipper

MPC-HC and Winrar backported for Windows XP
AstroSkipper replied to tirigliu's topic in Software Hangout
I check some programmes for updates from time to time. Regarding UniExtract2 I maintain an own article about such tools: No more and no less. And tools like WinRAR, 7-Zip and UniExtract2 are very important, especially for me. -
MPC-HC and Winrar backported for Windows XP
AstroSkipper replied to tirigliu's topic in Software Hangout
Great tool! I use it on a regular base. FYI, the most recent version is UniExtract2 2.0.0 RC 4 from 15.10.2023, though. -
When I posted the links, they were still alive, and I already installed the 32-bit version. But now, I will remove the dead links from my post..

ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use
AstroSkipper replied to AstroSkipper's topic in Windows XP
I have never been using Windows XP Professional x64. Therefore, I cannot report from my own experience. As you already read in my article, this OS doesn't support SHA256 to sign certificates. Thus, I fear you are stuck with only ProxHTTPSProxyMII 1.3a when accessing MU/WU. For more detailed information in terms of your OS, you should contact @maile3241. He got it working under Windows XP Professional x64. BTW, there are other options to update your OS. I listed them in my thread 'General and specific solutions for problems regarding AU/WU/MU in Windows XP'. Have a look here:- 922 replies

@WSC4! That's not going to work. Why are you trying to access the url http://update.microsoft.com/? This is not the correct link and will only end in an error page. Did you read the whole documentation? Here is a link: Under point 18, you will find the links you need to call up: http://fe2.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=e or http://fe2.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en&g_sconsumersite=1 But I recommend to read the whole documentation first to avoid further problems. Using this method to access MU/WU means that all components have to be configured 100% correctly. And please note that I have written my instructions mainly for Windows XP 32-bit! This means that a few steps can be skipped under Windows XP 64-bit. But you will realise this if you read everything carefully. Cheers, AstroSkipper

XP/Vista-compatible clients for modern email services?
AstroSkipper replied to Mathwiz's topic in Windows XP
I assume no one has attempted it. And I think there won't be anyone trying that. The only person that could realise such a port is not interested in an x64 build. TBH, I don't believe there is any acute urgency for doing so, either. -
XP/Vista-compatible clients for modern email services?
AstroSkipper replied to Mathwiz's topic in Windows XP
You can download only one type of installer from their website which is a 32-bit version. There is no other version. -
I am old school. Thus, I prefer to have my tab bar directly below the navigation and bookmarks bar as it was in the older days. Anyone who uses UXP browsers or old Firefox versions will be familiar with the Tab Utilities Phoenix or Tab Mix Plus extensions, which make changing the position of the tab bar in these browsers child's play. Interestingly. there are also Tab Mix Plus versions for the newer Firefox versions. Unfortunately, these do not work with Mypal 68; at least Firefox in version 78 is required.

The answer is yes. There are scripts to move the tab bar to the bottom of the browser window. Have a look here: Cheers, AstroSkipper
