My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Here is a link with all official language packs for Firefox 45.9.0esr: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/45.9.0esr/win32/xpi/ Maybe, they are still working or they have to be modified. I don't know that as I don't use this browser. For changing the language, you can use a language switcher extension, or you do it manually in the preference general.useragent.locale via about:config as usual. -
XP/Vista-compatible clients for modern email services?
AstroSkipper replied to Mathwiz's topic in Windows XP
To force the updated installer of DreamMail Pro 6.6.6.5 to use English instead of Chinese as the installer language, I updated again my small loader that does this when it calls up the setup program. It must be executed in the same directory in which the setup file is located with its original file name dmpro_setup6.6.6.5.exe. Here is the download link of my loader Force_En_Install_DM_Pro_6665.exe: https://www.mediafire.com/file/i5bckh1l88a42in/Force_En_Install_DM_Pro_6665.7z/file Although some virus scanners detect this file as malicious, it is just a false-positive as always. Use my loader to force an English install, only if you trust me, of course! Cheers, AstroSkipper -

Yep, I reverted the preference dom.webcomponents.enabled back to its default setting. Too much errors in my web console. An old, weak CPU also has advantages, though. The user notices immediately that something is getting out of hand. -

Thanks for the tip! Setting dom.webcomponents.enabled to false did the trick. Does setting this preference to false have a negative impact on other functions? Rejoiced too soon! The web interface is loading completely, but a file can't be uploaded and unfortunately, this setting leads to a 100% utilisation of my CPU, palemoon.exe needs round about 93%. Therefore, no solution for me, unfortunately. Sorry to say that! I think another solution has to be found. BTW, same problem in New Moon 28. Edit: To be a bit more precise, setting dom.webcomponents.enabled to false in my testing profile of Serpent 52, the CPU load starts by 50%,. There, I was able to upload a file which leads to a 100% load on my CPU in the end. In New Moon 28, the VirusTotal interface starts with a 100% load on my CPU, and I was unable to upload my test file. And the Web Console is full of errors. Therefore, I also reported this to the issues of martok's palefill on GitHub. -

Although Palefill 1.26 is installed in my Serpent 52, the interface of VirusTotal is blank after loading. As far as I can see, VirusTotal changed their font. It is now Google Sans. There doesn't seem to be a supported format for Serpent 52. Here is the output of my error console: Maybe, our font experts do have an idea how to fix that. Additionally, there seems to be more problems in Serpent 52 when loading VirusTotal. Here is the output of my web console: Anything which can be polyfilled? Cheers, Astroskipper -

By using dorando keyconfig, you can disable any shortcuts listed in its window. I installed it again for testing purpose. Look at my screenshot: The shortcut Ctrl-Shift-W has been disabled by me in Serpent 52. You can revert this by clicking the button Reset or manually at any time, of course. Hope it works for you. You're welcome! I used this extension in the past, but currently it is not installed in my browser. It has always served me well. -

The ability for toggling this preference is very much appreciated. This way, each of us can decide for ourselves what kind of tab style is to be used. Many thanks for your efforts! -

Yep, I also checked this preference, and it is in its default state true. -

As far as I can say, I didn't observe this issue in New Moon 28. In this browser, I use Tab Utilities Phoenix 2.1.0 with the 'multi-row tab bar' feature enabled. The version is slightly different to the original release due to some changes to its code (German language glitches were fixed by me), but I don't think that this makes any difference. Only changes to the German locale. Anyway! No breakage in New Moon 28 observed at the moment! -

Hello @basilisk-dev! Thanks a lot for your quick investigation! To fix the breakage of Tab Utilities Phoenix and presumably Tab Mix Plus by reverting recent changes from mentioned commit would be great. And many thanks for the ongoing development of Basilisk! Greetings from Germany, AstroSkipper -

sure, layout is changed by upstream commit: https://github.com/roytam1/UXP/commit/89dd425fd22a6cbbbbef2d2b47e2a4bc9fc14fc3 Thanks for the hint! Can this be reverted in the next release or any other suggestions to make Tab Utilities Phoenix's multi-row tab bar feature working again? BTW, the developer of Tab Utilities Phoenix just released the version 2.1.2 yesterday. It was actually supposed to be a compatibility update. -

Okay! I investigated this issue a bit more closely. In a new profile, no problem with the feature 'multi-row tab bar', but in my main profile, there is this problem as long as this feature is enabled. I assume it is a new incompatibility to another extension or setting after updating Serpent 52. Maybe, I find the culprit. Well, that was unfortunately a fallacy! I created once again a new profile in Serpent 52, installed only Tab Utilities Phoenix 2.1.2, activated the 'multi-row tab bar' feature, opened two rows of empty tabs, and then the browser went completely berserk. It changed the display from one row to two rows flashing under a 100% CPU load. Only disabling this feature in Tab Utilities Phoenix made the browser usable again. Something in the code of Serpent 52 must have changed, in any case the multi-row tab display no longer works as usual, at least in my system. -

XP/Vista-compatible clients for modern email services?
AstroSkipper replied to Mathwiz's topic in Windows XP
Our days are numbered, too. But, joking aside! Speculating about the future is one thing. But we are (probably) not clairvoyants . The actual state is decisive. It's not only about your needs or mine. The fact is, MailNews and DreamMail Pro work with many email services, unfortunately with the exception of Microsoft 365. But in old operating systems, not every new gadget has to and can work. Then the user just has to use a more up-to-date operating system. There, the choice of email clients is much greater, and presumably, one of them will work with the latest stuff. -

A small update information! DreamMail Pro has been updated again and is now available in version 6.6.6.5. It is still XP compatible. Great to see ongoing development! Here is the download link: https://dl.cy-email.com/dm6/Download/dmpro_setup6.6.6.5.exe Cheers, AstroSkipper -

In Serpent 52, not only Tab Mix Plus seems to be broken. Even the extension Tab Utilities Phoenix in the version 2.1.0 and also the most recent 2.1.2 from March 6, 2023 is not working properly. The feature 'multi-row tab bar' causes a 100% CPU utilization. Something tab related must have been changed. Only disabling this feature in Tab Utilities Phoenix will make Serpent usable again. I am not really happy with that as it is a feature I actually always have been using. -

You are absolutely right. I mixed up the variables reader.parse-on-load.enabled and reader.parse-on-load.force-enabled. Shi* happens! I already corrected my post. Here is a screenshot of my settings in Serpent 52: Cheers, AstroSkipper -

To control and change keyboard shortcuts in general, I used the extension dorando keyconfig in the past. I don't know if it is still compatible, but I think so. Here is a link: https://addons.thunderbird.net/de/thunderbird/addon/dorando-keyconfig/ The last (legacy) version was 2018.1. -

The keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+R works in my installation of Serpent 52, but F9 doesn't. The variable reader.parse-on-load.enabled is set to true (default setting), and the variable reader.parse-on-load.force-enabled is set to false (default setting).
