  1. Drinks are on me!
  2. %windir%\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation this also works in a shortcut entry to lock the workstation
  3. I wasn't aware there was a 6 icon limit, but you can always create a folder in an elsewhere location, such as C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Quick Launch Folders\ and create new folders like "Graphics", "Internet Applications", then place the shortcuts in there. Now, right click your taskbar > Toolbars > New Toolbar > and choose a folder you created, repeat the step for the other folders as well.
  4. Start > Run > C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
  5. I know that, but I like having the taskbar 2 levels high, it gives room for the quicklaunch icons I place there.
  6. zipp51 - That's a wallpaper image?
  7. I've not tried it, but I heard that its a feature of Messenger 5.0, to leave the existing version installed on the system without upgrading it.
  8. Yes, it would help keeping the pagefile on a seperate local hard drive, but do you have a spare IDE Channel slot on your mobo/disk controller to support your 3.2GB Maxtor?
  9. Come on what?
  10. Microsoft is planning what could end up being quite a shock for the Windows XP warez world, and what currently looks to be one of the most amazing moves made by Microsoft since Windows Product Activation was introduced. Currently, Microsoft is in the works of completely rewriting the algorithm for the way Windows XP Corporate keys are generated, and is rewriting the code for Windows XP to recognize this new algorithm. This new code will be an added ‘feature’ of Service Pack 1 due out later this year. At the present moment, an upgrade to Windows XP SP1 from Windows XP with no SP installation will not give any problems or errors about an invalid CD-Key on a corporate version of Windows XP. This is because the new algorithm feature has been switched off in SP1 upgrades. To get to see this new feature, you would have to slipstream SP1 into the Windows XP installation media and setup Windows. Once you’ve reached the CD-key, no current Corporate Windows XP key (none of the 75 that we’ve tried) will work, as they are all invalid. Even if a corporate key is managed to be found, the chances of it working when SP1 final comes out are slim to none, as Microsoft is rumored to ‘still be working on the algorithm for SP1 for Corporate customers’. So why is Microsoft keeping this a secret? To put it mildly, they are a bit perturbed that warezers have been able to exploit the corporate edition of Windows XP to completely bypass WPA. They are planning to keep it a complete surprise until SP1 final has been released and shut down as many warez users from using Windows XP as possible. They know if it’s made widely known what they are planning, nobody will upgrade to SP1 until an appropriate patch has been made. Read the rest at BetaONE
  11. WindowsBlinds seem to be the best one available, but its a bit of a resource hog on my system. The newer version could be a lot better. Its a fact that Microsoft's XP Visual Styles is based on an earlier version of WindowsBlinds, but a cut-down version.
  12. Do you ever get a "send error report" box appear when IE closes itself? Does the same happen in Windows Explorer? Most likely cause of it crashing is bad RAM, or you might have dodgy plugins installed. Also, try re-installing IE6 with info from this link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;en-us;Q318378
  13. heh, its Bink's Monitor
  14. Screenshot = Service Pack 1 - build 1078 MSN Messenger 5.0.0322 and Windows Media Player 9 also leaked to the net.
  15. Try Netfirms or your own ISP webspace. Geocities, Brinkster and MSN is really no good for external linking of images.
  16. I've never tried GuardIE
  17. hey welcome back LouCypher! How come you've only got 2 posts?
  18. ahh.. I won't use Meaya then.. Proxomitron requires no whitelisting whatsoever, its clever config files allows popups from the site urls you're on.. and not from external locations. Most (or probably all) rogue banner ads come from external locations.
  19. mobetter4u - Have you looked in Event Viewer to check for any errors or warnings its logged? It can be handy to find out what's causing it. If you manage to go into Safe Mode again, go to control panel > admin tools > event viewer > system
  20. hmm DMZ on a router... I'm planning on building a network soon with a cable modem to 4 machines, I got worried about applications that will refuse to work, such as IIS, FTP Serving, or File Transfers on MSN. DMZ looks like the solution then don't it? As you say... DMZ exposes the computer 100% openly to the Internet, so a software firewall will sort that edit: Is it also possible to open all ports on the IP in DMZ? cos apps like Edonkey and Blubster operates on thousands of port numbers I think
  21. Zipp51, does it let friendly popup windows appear?
  22. Why not try Proxomitron like I suggested in the first post? Its stopped all rogue popups for the last 2 days of using it Proxomitron also lets the friendly ones get through.
  23. Aaron
