  1. A new TechReport article on the price:performance ratio of current cpus. http://techreport.com/reviews/2007q2/pricevperf/index.x?pg=1 also consider the over clocking capability of each cpu if you're up to it.
  2. Seagate is playing catch up with Hitatchi and Samsung now in terms of capacity and price.
  3. That Ook extension for Firefox works good, just click the button on the status bar and it automatically opens a Save As window with the correct title name and extension, you can also have it just automatically save. A breif look at the source and it does not appear to go through an external site to download.
  4. from the comments on that site: Ook? Video Ook! (firefox extension) - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2584 have not tried it yet but sounds good. also had not hear of this one yet: http://www.savetube.com/ was using "kiss"youtube to get the files and the "universal" bookmarklet but the code for that is a mile long. http://www.kissyoutube.com/ http://1024k.de/bookmarklets/video-bookmarklets.html
  5. AMD is a better value. Intel is winning the performance game right now, but bang for buck imo goes to AMD. Also AM2 socket motherboards will be forward compatible with AM2+ and AM3 cpus.
  6. 76C + 4655 RPM WOW Just for comparison sake my cpu is at 44C and the fan (9cm) is at 2637 RPM. Obviously something is wrong there. Clean the pc of dust, make sure air is getting in there. What is the ambient room temperature? Is this the stock heatsink/fan or are you using an aftermarket 3rd party cooler? Also how big is the fan diagonally? 8cm/9cm/12cm?
  7. sounds like a hardware issue of some sort. try this: leave the pc off for a little while to fully cool to room temperature, then turn it on and go into the bios and right down the initial temperatures, leave it on just that and see if it reboots itself, which if it does turn it on again and immediately record the temperatures. I don't think it's a software problem and I would advise against what nemesis suggests (no offense) because it will cause other problems.
  8. Happy Birthday bro
  9. http://www.hackszine.com/blog/archive/2007...be_and_goo.html no more using external sites or programs!
  10. I would look for some sort of password generator that lets you export or print a list.
  11. same, no problem otherwise.
  12. nitro322 responds! Hope to see an update soon!
  13. There is a new version, 6.0.2.614, which is Vista compatible it extracts an msi to %temp%. Don't know if they added switches. http://download.nullsoft.com/avs/AVS_v25.exe
  14. sounds like a bloated and dangerous browser, why would someone, other than a web developer, want to use this?
  15. Wikipedia says yes I think its possible because the AM2-AM3 have the memory controller built-in. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_AM2
  16. When you run vLite it will ask for your Vista dvd or a folder where you have copied the files from it to.
  17. Are you using Vista? I thought I saw something before about SLI not working in Vista.
  18. Depending on what resolution you are gaming at it might be wasted "horsepower", like running a v12 while driving 30mph. Its also almost triple the price. In fact if you look at that 3DMark06 chart @ Bjorn the 8800 GTS has 1.5X the performance, but at current prices costs 2.5X as much. cheapest 8600 GT $110 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....1921+1067928607 cheapest 8800 GTS $270 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....1921+1067924922 I prefer to buy towards the "value" end and upgrade more often BTW some 3dmarks from my card: GPU @ Default (600MHz), FSB @ 220MHz - 13867 3DMarks (03) http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultan...amp;UID=9716604 GPU @ Default (600MHz), FSB @ 220MHz - 8602 3DMarks (05) http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultan...amp;UID=9716838 GPU @ Default (600MHz), FSB @ 220MHz - 4301 3DMarks (06) http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultan...amp;UID=9717463
  19. Someone just needs to make the Mac theme and dock for Vista.
  20. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think you should get an AM2 system with DDR2 memory. You can put an AM2+ or an AM3 in the same socket later, but cannot use DD3 memory.
  21. well you would have to restore the imaged partition, since your objective is to free space.
  22. Welcome to MSFN Riso
  23. hmm not sure, but i do know you could create an image backup of that partition and burn that to a disk should you need it later, and then delete the recovery partition to free space. You can try SelfImage which is free, not sure if it will "see" that partition though. http://selfimage.excelcia.org/ I reccomend and use Acronis True Image, its not free but its got a lot of features, is simple to use and works well. http://www.acronis.com/
  24. man that should almost go in funny farm, but keep it here btw check out CCleaner Portable http://www.internetrotsyourbrain.com/ccleanerportable/
