Klikit Linux is creeping into the News, as far as Im aware there has been no "Official" release yet so pretty good for a distro thats not gone public. As for being similar to Linspire, the article mentions its Storehouse as a possible competitor to Linspires CNR, the main difference here being that klikit is free (as in beer). Quick side note: I am using the same test system I always use for Linux and I know that both Ubuntu and Kubuntu play well with my hardware so there shouldn’t be any problems. :-) Before the hard disk install, I tried using the Live CD first just to confirm the disk was OK and also that all of my hardware was recognized. All was well so I proceeded to install the distro to my hard disk. The systems runs very well and yes it is Kubuntu. Unfortunately what I wanted to try, Storehouse, is not yet up and running. But how could that image then be used to recover the system?

Sorry if this doesnt belong in here. I have a new laptop with a recovery partition with Vista Premuim on it. I want to delete all partitions and create my own curom partitions for installing other oses, data etc, Is it possible to create an ISO image from the recovery partition file to create a Vista install disc so that I can then delete the recovery partition and put teh space ot better use?

Ive been waiting over two weeks now for delivery of the DVD set. I got impatient and went to the download site, received th eemail with theserial number but cant get it downloaded due to demand and my pitiful connection! Oh well, patience is a virtue - or so Ive heard!!

It appears this subject just wont go away (although I bet Linspire wish it would). I find it ironic considering everything they have said against both Apple and Microsoft to name but a few that Linspire have attacked over such things. A condensed version (NB I am not talking about piracy here I really want to know if there are any options short of buying a whole new OS) i bought a laptop with XP home installed. Burned recovery partition to dvd which worked fine. I created partitions which have apparently delted a tattoo file which is required for authentication when using the recovery dvd. Laptop manufacturer is no help other than advising on recreating the tatto file which Im unable to do (too stoopid). I contacted MS and explained th eproblem and asked if i could quote the COA would they send/sell a copy of XP Home on disk - minus the COA. Response was - No chance mate give us £49.95 plus VAT and we'll help you out. - very "unfriendly" I responded that I have already paid for the oem copy of XP on the laptop and merely want a backup disk to reinstall the OS and that I could buy an OEM copy for the same or less than they were asking for support. i got the same response! My question, is there any way I can get this sorted out without having to buy another copy of XP considering i dont want another COA just the OS to reinstall with the existing COA? What a way to generate cash!

It appears that Linspire, instead of denying it, are attempting to deflect attention away and point people against the author of this story and lock the thread - they must be in denial - http://forum.linspire.com/viewtopic.php?t=417129 this story has also appeared on newsforge, Linspire.co.uk, Linuxforums and many other sites around the globe. Its interesting why they dont give an explanation. (I hope MS and Apple are watching this as its a real lesson in PR for them!! )

For a company who's founder talks so negatively about closed formats and DRM, it might be news to you that Linspire Inc themselves implement closed format files and DRM in their own products. Linspire Inc's flag ship product applies DRM to every peice of software you download with their proprietary CNR software. You are given the opportunity to store your downloaded software in a file format with the extension '.cnr', which is nothing more than an encrypted Debian package file. The result of this is that you are prevented from using the software you download on any other Linux system without Linspire's permission. The CNR installer is required to 'phone home' whenever you want to install any software, just to make sure you have their permission to use it. What is even more puzzling about this is the majority of the software Linspire delivers is GPL'd. The GPL license entitles you to copy, modify and redistribute your software, so Linspire has no legal protection to prevent you from doing this. But still they are trying to do it anyway. Fortunately current CNR files are easy to crack, but that might not always be the case. If you don't think Linspire Inc should have the right to prevent you from using your own (Free) software in any way you wish then email them and tell them so. I have made my own views clear to them. Okay, ive done a bit of routing about and found the following info which brings me back to my original thought that this is a legitimate application connected to the WiFi. It has the same Icon which used to appear in the sys tray for the WiFi connection - that doesnt show anymore and thats when the problem started. the info Ive found is: Location1: C:\windows\system32\drivers Location2: C:\pnp\other\scroll File description: Icon application for Wireless File Version: 1.4.0.31 Copright: 2004-2007 File size: 212kb I did wonder how it could be malware as Im very careful, also the apps I run have upto date def files and the icon.exe malware is recognised on their respective websites, meaning that the def files should know about this pest. As they didnt identify it on my system it led me to believe this is not the offending pest that is mentioned but a legitimate application connected to the WiFi. So where now I wonder?? ps: sorry if this is now the wrong forum for this. I originally thought Icon.exe was an integral part of XP.

Everytime I boot my laptop, which has onboard WiFi, i get the error "Icon.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close". Im confident this is not the spyware that keeps coming up in google searches for Icon.exe as I run a battery of anti spyware apps and AV. can anyone tell me what Icon.exe is and how I can repair it if possible.
