  1. I took me a minute to realise that what you created an Update List which continued the previous one. I combined the two and posted the much needed updated UL to WUD's homepage.
  2. *Brings out the party condoms*
  3. I think you didn't learn the same English that we did.
  4. You should be stripped of your damned title. You're not the hardware guy, you're the damned jester. The first basic law of science, matter cannot be created nor destroyed, it can only change forms. Hard drive space doesn't just disappear. As nmX.Memnoch already pointed out, nothing is lost, it's just a discrepancy in the methods of calculation. And before you complain and say "that what I said!", no, it's not what you said. If you know the correct answer but don't have the patience to take the time and effort to actually type out the correct and proper answer in your post, just don't post. There is absolutely nothing normal about the behaviour of your RAID array. I would suggest that you attempt the following to resolve your issue, in this order: - Update your BIOS to the latest version. - Re-install your chipset drivers - Make sure your Windows is up to date with all the latest updates - Re-install your RAID drivers (this usually requires you to download the latest F6 floppy disk, extracting it and manually updating the driver through Device Manager).
  5. The correct answer is to create a Label on the splash screen, name it Label1 for example and use the following code. Label1.Caption = Replace(App.EXEName, ".exe", "")
  6. YES!! Slow internet is like having your bones ground while waiting for the bus.
  7. Umm... P5K is a problem board. P5K vs P5B. Pioneer vs Samsung. 4x1GB vs 2x2GB. Q6600 vs E6750. P180 vs Lian-Li.
  8. There actually is a purpose to that seemingly odd setup. On can setup a RAID 1 array using a fixed internal drive and an external eSATA drive. What that allows you to do is to use the drive partition for backup and walk away with the mirror copy which you can bring home.
  9. Well...I finally shutdown the server tonight to check this out. Turns out my suspicions were correct...in my haste to get the new controller setup I'd left the jumper on the 7200.10 drive that limits them to 1.5Gbps. BUT...the story doesn't end there. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. While I was in there I noticed things were a little...warm, specifically around the Visiontek GeForce 4 Ti4600 video card. Turns out the fan had died on it and things were getting VERY toasty inside the case. I happened to have a BFG GeForce FX 5200 Ultra laying on the shelf so I swapped 'em out. Man was it ever warm inside that case. I'm really surprised the Supermicro utility didn't pick up the warmer temps. What kind of case do you have your server in? Don't forget also that our perception of temperature is flawed. What may seem quite warm may in fact only be a few degrees above ambient.
  10. For those of you who are wondering what kind of board the P5B Deluxe is? Using nothing but a change of FSB, a little bit of overvolting and my Zalman cooler, this motherboard manages to overclock my Pentium D 930 (Dual core at 3.0GHz) up to a whopping 4.0 GHz. It was unstable under heavy load but under light load it ran fine for a good half an hour. I'm sure I could get it to remain stable at 4.0 GHz, but this was more for testing the potential of the P5B then really living at the 4.0 GHz line.
  11. Yes, you only need to update the BIOS. In fact, the P5B Deluxe even supports these recently released processors: Core 2 Duo E6750 (2.66GHz,1333FSB,L2:4MB,rev.G0) since BIOS revision 1215 Core 2 Duo E6850 (3.00GHz,1333FSB,L2:4MB,rev.G0) since BIOS revision 1215 Core 2 Extreme QX6800 (2.93GHz,1066FSB,L2:2X4MB,rev.G0,4 cores) since BIOS revision 1210 Core 2 Extreme QX6850 (3.00GHz,1333FSB,L2:2X4MB,rev.G0,4 cores) since BIOS revision 1201 To see the complete list, take a look here: http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupp...SLanguage=en-us
  12. Umm... http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=p5k+problems Oh and let's not forget, even if things get fixed on a certain revision of the PCB, it doesn't mean you'll get that revision. A lot of times stock will sit in warehouses a long time before it ever reaches a customer, meaning the board you get could have been produced several months ago in a period before new revisions and fixes.
  13. Materials Required 1 sheet of 8.5" x 11" paper, preferably white. 1 computer, preferably of the IBM compatible type. 1 inkjet printer, preferably color, laser is also acceptable. 1 roll of clear scotch tape. 1 company logo in electronic image form. Setup Time Required 15 minutes Preparation 1. Insert the sheet of paper into the printer. 2. Using the computer you collected with your list of materials, print the company logo onto the sheet of paper using the printer. 3. Wait 5 minutes for the ink to fully dry. 4. Using the roll of clear scotch tape, afix the paper using the long side on top the top of the screen which users will lock. Note: Only afix the top side, leave the other sides free for movement. Usage When the workstation is in use, flip the paper over the monitor to retain a clear view of the screen. When locking the workstation, simply reach around the monitor and flip the paper over the screen. And there you have it, your company logo when you lock the workstation!
  14. Okay, even more reason. Why would you WANT to go with a board with problems?
  15. P5K ... problem board. Only difference between that and P5B ... DDR3. You don't care about DDR3. ... ...
  16. What you just mentioned is the P5B Deluxe by ASUS ( http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&amp...amp;modelmenu=1 ). - 4 x DIMM, max. 8GB, DDR2 800 / 667 / 533 MHz, non-ECC, un-buffered memory - 3 x PCI 2.2 - Dual Gigabit LAN controllers, both featuring AI NET2 - 6 x SATA 3.0 Gb/s ports on ICH8R (Intel Matrix Storage Technology supports RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10). - 1 x External SATA 3.0 Gb/s port (SATA On-the-Go)
  17. You might want to take a look here: http://man.och.cz/3dm2/3DM_2_OLH-4-07.htmlMy take from that would be if you had the BBU installed with the StorSave set to Balanced, you'd gain the protection that the BBU offers with a step of speed towards the Performance profile.
  18. Queries have very little to do with SQL performance, performance is mostly a result of how the data is organized and indexed. Also, the quantity of data has a bigger impact then the complexity of the query itself. Oh and let's not forget, with database servers, every bit of ram helps.
  19. Why get the Q6600 when the E6750 is cheaper? That's a complete waste. The X38 chipset is going to come out in a month's time. The P5K series is reknown to have problems at the moment. And, at the same price, you can get a P5B Premium which has proven it's stability and supports ALL current Core2 Duo / Core2 Quad processors. Better overclocking? No. Memory PCB surface area is fixed. So the more memory you include on the same stick, the higher the density of the chip circuitry. The higher the density, the less resistance and distance there is between circuits, the higher the change for "signal leaks" and "data corruption". So no, overclocking is not better, it gets worse. 2GB modules run much hotter then 1GB modules for the same reasons as above. Stress on the motherboard is irrelevant. The only things that "stress" a motherboard are heat and age. If anything, increasing the heat generated by your modules will reduce lifespan, not increase it. Future expandibilty is a non issue. By the time you'd even possibly consider moving beyond 4GB of memory, you'd already have changed technologies. I also vote for Pioneer. I've burned over 1,200 DVDs in a year with 2 x DVR-111D... nothing else would have done so well. Yes, the Lian-Li does use 120mm fans as well as 80mm fans. The case is unnecessarily huge. Not to mention it's fugly. If you want to go enormous, go for a P190 then. Or even the P182. Both of them are designed with water cooling in mind. The Coolermaster Stacker series is also plenty roomy and has water cooling considerations built in. The P180 is nowhere near a slouch in the size department either. This is another classic case of blind ignorance. So many gaming kiddies always take the same bloody approaches. They spend all their cash on the processor, memory and video card and just blattently ignore what's really important. Your computer is as fast as it's slowest component. That slowest component has always been and will most likely always continue to be, the storage subsystem. From the controllers to the physical hard drives, the storage subsystem has always been trailing behind the rest of the system. My computer has always been a better gaming machine then ones where the builder spent twice as much simply based on the fact that I concentrated the bulk of my money on the hard drives. I droppped around $700 for my two raptors at the time (they were freshly arrived onto the market). My computer was still faster with my 6600 GT then others who bought a 7800 GT simply because of the raw speed of my storage subsystem. And you know, you talk about not wanting to do RAID, yet you're showing off the fact that you have 12 drive bays so you have "plenty of room" to expand. How do you think you're going to hook up 12 hard drives to a single motherboard without using RAID? This isn't 1976. It's time you got up to date and realised the potential RAID offers if you want to be a serious gamer with serious hardware.
  20. Seems like the file's gone missing. And unfortunately, I don't seem to have the original anywhere. If anyone has a copy of this UL, please upload it here so I can post it on the main website. Thanks. EDIT: Found a copy, it's been uploaded.
  21. I'm preparing to start coding WUD version 3. I'd like to get feedback from you guys and maintain an official list of which features WUD V3 should support. Anything you have to say about WUD and what you'd like to see it keep doing, do better or not do, let me know.
  22. Being a software developer... I'm not took concerned since I'll use a custom windows shell which I've written previously.
  23. As far as I know, you cannot control the characters which software uses to save files. How are those files creating issues with your backup?
  24. I like to use my joystick.
