  1. Sounds like your modem either not configured properly on your router or your modem's retaining the PC MAC Addresses. What type of modem is this? Cable? DSL? Do you require a username/password to connect?
  2. Call Microsoft Support, get a new Product Key. I've seen this happen before. There's a few product keys that got issued that cause this.
  3. Well, let's see, if you compare a 700 euro 32" 720P to a 800 euro 32" 1080P LCD... I'd say that's pretty close to the same price... If you shop around enough, you can find prices for a 1080P screen that make the purchase of a 720P screen in the same size moot, even in Europe.
  4. Unless you plan on spending nothing on your TV (which isn't going to happen), it would be foolish to buy a TV that is not 1080P capable. It takes little more then an small afternoon to compare prices between two or three major electronics retailers to see that you can purchase a Full HD 1080P capable television for the SAME price at the SAME dimensions as a 720P capable TV. The HD specifications rate 1080P as the maximum resolution, why get something that does half of what the future will bring when pricing doesn't justify a need to cut back?
  5. That would be a shame because regardless whether one company makes a better product then another, competition is always healthy and necessary for better consumer products.
  6. Using, duplicating or selling Microsoft logos, names, trademarks, software or any other intellectual property without explicit consent from Microsoft is ILLEGAL. Period.
  7. You can also find it at the same place as Vista. Click on the Time in the Task Bar, click on Change Date / Time, click on the Internet Time tab and then click on Change Settings...
  8. Downloads are done from Microsoft Public Servers only and no attempts to bypass any WGA mechanism is ever made.
  9. Against the EULA as defeating copy-protection is not only against the EULA but also against the law in most countries.
  10. That would be no since 3.5 (as well as 3.0) is an extension to 2.0.
  11. You're receiving help but ignoring it. Do as cluberti says if you want proper analysis of the cause of your bluescreening.
  12. I have yet to see a cable modem that does NAT, so this is highly unlikely.
  13. Rock on. Hopefully that will help diminish the flood of ancient thread revivals.
  14. Shield's UP has absolutely no bearing on his malware situation. It simply detects which ports are listening to external connections.
  15. You may want to watch this video : http://www.microsoft.com/emea/spotlight/se...spx?videoid=359
  16. The most important part of any computer I build, is not a question of money, but money is no object when it comes to choosing, is the motherboard. The motherboard, for me, is primordially the most important component as it defines what you can build around it.
  17. That would be the integrated switch I was talking about.
  18. Your DNS cache will be flushed when you reboot, however, do keep in mind there are multiple levels of DNS cache that may not have been. Your router will cache DNS, your ISP will cache DNS, and the forward lookup servers of your ISP will cache DNS.
  19. You should really refer to the video I posted in post #6 ( http://www.msfn.org/board/Can-malware-repl...453#entry791453 ). It explains a lot of methods that you can use to detect malware, even advanced malware like rootkits, as well as what you can do to remove it.
  20. If you've installed Windows, you've already agreed to this agreement. That's what the EULA is for.
  21. The Cat 6 wire does make a difference over Cat 5e. Since the standard is higher even low quality Cat 6 tends to be better then high quality Cat 5e. Not to mention everything is moving to Gigabit, 100Mbit on new equipment is almost extinct. My personal recommendations are that you purchase 1000FT of Cat 6 (you'll be amazed how quickly you go through it) install everything that's permanent using Cat 6. There's no point of saving (literally) only a few dollars when it's something that you're not going to want to change again. Anyone who has a little patience can wire their home as they want. Try to keep your cable/dsl modem next to your router/switch and put everything somewhere out of the way like under stairs or in a closet and run raw Cat 6 cable between there and each of your rooms. It's a good idea to bring a run of cable into each room of your house where you think it may be possible to one day have something that will require the network. Even if there's nothing there now, if you think one day there may be, the may is good enough reason bring an outlet there. Also, you may want to consider bringing more then a single network jack to each location. Some of the rooms in my house have only one jack and I wish I had two, some have two and I wish I had three or four. Two per room is usually a great start. To keep everything neat, what you usually do is install an outlet with keystone jacks for the network connections in each room, then you run all the wires to the central location and there, you put all of your wires into a patch panel. This way, you only need to send the network to the outlets that need it without needing to buy a large and expensive switch. So to sum up, what you'll need is the following. 1000 FT (recommended) Category 6 cable 1 Wallplate per room 2 Keystone jacks per network outlet (each end of the cable) (Optional) 1 Wire stripper Personally, I do all of my network related purchases through ComputerCableStore, as I have yet to find a supplier (Neither in Canada or the USA) that's cheaper and still maintains great quality. 1000FT Category 6 : http://www.computercablestore.com/1000FT_C...P_PID43069.aspx 1 Jack Wallplates : http://www.computercablestore.com/One_Port..._Pl_PID192.aspx 2 Jack Wallplates : http://www.computercablestore.com/Two_Port..._Pl_PID194.aspx 3 Jack Wallplates : http://www.computercablestore.com/Three_Po...ll__PID196.aspx 4 Jack Wallplates : http://www.computercablestore.com/Four_Por...l_P_PID198.aspx Toolless Keystone jacks : http://www.computercablestore.com/Toolless...a_PID41171.aspx Patch Panel : http://www.computercablestore.com/2u_Blank..._P_PID1288.aspx Bracket to Wallmount Patch Panel : http://www.computercablestore.com/2u_Hingi...ra_PID1518.aspx As for the pre-made patch cables between the wall and the computers and/or router, take your pick in length and colour : http://www.computercablestore.com/CAT6_Boo..._catID1579.aspx
