  1. No, automatic bans just mean that you are banned without warning when an administrator receives notice of your offending post.
  2. Make sure you check the flux capacitor.
  3. Dude, you're old... er... I mean Happy Birthday!
  4. You might pay that much for the cartridge, but how long will it last you? How long will an epson cartridge last you? If you have to buy 10 inkjet cartridges at £20 each to print as much as a single laser cartridge at £80, you're saving £120.
  5. Usually, when a .NET application crashes, there's an extended error that comes with it. I'd need that information to be able to help you.
  6. Well, mostly because 5.9, even as close to 6 as it is, is not 6. If you were to look at steps from 0 to 6, the first step is from 0 to 0.9, the 2nd 1 to 1.9, and so on up to 5 to 5.9. The steps are not 0 to 1, 1.1 to 2, which just wouldn't make sense.
  7. IMHO, ink jet printers are money pits with the never ending need to replace ink catridges.

  9. We'll probably see an increase to 6.9 in Windows 7, it's already been disclosed by Microsoft that the score would be periodically adjusted to allow for new technology to be scored properly.
  10. I have an XFX 9800GTX, so far so good... we'll soon see how long that will last.
  11. Even if there's no rule directly written about this, it's against the MSFN spirit.
  12. It would seem that in reference to post #9 from the OP, running the script manually would not necessarily be a problem as long the OP could turn on the PC from an exterior location remotely.
  13. You wouldn't go and buy a car in the first dealer you walked into without checking for prices elsewhere would you? Windows Server 2008 Standard can be had for as little as $600, which is dirty cheap considering everything that includes. By the way, as a matter fact, you'll be able to install Hyper-V on any old box for free as of next month without purchasing Windows Server 2008. Personally, I find VMware APIs cumbersome to work with. A lot of VMware scripts and solutions that have been blogged seem like "hacks" more then natural evolutions of the product. If find it interesting to see that a first release product (Hyper-V) has already caught up on most fronts, which took VMware a decade to achieve. It didn't take long for the market to start shifting around Hyper-V, you shouldn't dismiss it as a bench player because it's a serious contender that's going to play hard ball. There are very few areas in which VMware has the edge, such as VMotion, and that will change over time. Hyper-V already has advantages, such as native disk access, over VMware and has already become a compelling choice that warrants being chosen over VMware despite the differences in available features.
  14. That's a pretty good idea but there's a simple flaw in the cron job, doing a voluntary shutdown would have the machine wake up by the cron job five minutes later. I'd take your idea and simply suggest that the wake on lan binary be scripted with the proper parameters in a batch file (do they have batch files in linux?) that could be executed via an SSH login.ie: Box is down, log in to the router using SSH and then run the WOL batch file. If you want to get really creative, you could execute the WOL directly from the router's web interface if you modified, say, the administration page that's served by the internal web browser.
  15. I reverted back to v175, which didn't have this issue.
  16. Obviously all the drivers are NOT installed correctly. You have to keep in mind that sometimes audio drivers include other components or ports that require their own drivers, usually wrapped into the proper audio drivers. I'm not quite sure how to determine what the missing HDA component would be, but perhaps looking through the properties of the "Audio Device" could yield a clue as to what it could be.
  17. If you've RMAed 5 motherboards in less then a year and now the problems with your hard drive, I'd say there's something seriously wrong that hasn't been addressed...
  18. I had a problem with v177 of the nVidia drivers that would make it such that when I connected using Remote Desktop, it would start connecting and disconnect right away. *shakes fists*
  19. Yes but most of the tools to properly manage VMware ESXi aren't whilst you get a lot of control with Hyper-V free, plus the API is publicly documented and accessible, there are thousands of articles that have been written about it and as such, there are thousands of free utilities to augment the power and manageability of Hyper-V, unfortunately, the same can't be said about VMware.
  20. I have an idea... if you like to do a bit of wizardry... If you use a router, such as the Linksys WRT54GL, which gives you access to an SSH session, then you can login to your router and do work from there. It's possible to add a serial port to the WRT54GL (the PCB traces are there, you just need to solder a header). Using the serial port, you could attach a small serial controlled switch which you could attach to your PC. So, once everything was setup, you could something like "1) Login to your router using SSH then 2) run a command such as 'hitpower' that would flick the serial switch."
  21. 3ware 9650s are amongst the best RAID controllers you can buy for a number of reasons, ranging from quality, to stability, to compatibility.
  22. It's not... for a very simple reason. What's to guarantee that the PC would turn on? What if the power was back and a 2nd pressing of the power button was required? As the idea is presented, if power was restored and the relays actived (essentially pressing the power button) and the PC was still off, there would be no 2nd pressing of the button, the button would just stay stuck to ON.
  23. Actually, there's another method. I just never had a chance to research it and/or do it. Basically, you have to create an executable that will replace winnt32.exe and rename the original winnt32.exe. You can then intercept the setup, display a menu, and launch the original (now renamed) winnt32.exe with the appropriate parameters (use a custom setup file or not).
  24. Considering Microsoft gives Hyper-V for FREE, I'd say trends are going to change, yes.
