  1. 1) Opera 2) XMPlay or PlainAmp perhaps but a barebone foobar is rather light already no? 3) I don't know
  2. You got it. Another tip in case you install the G'Mic plugin (recommended): Create a (NULL) directory (with the brackets) in the gimp bin folder otherwise G'Mic won't be able to update its filter database online properly and you'll miss out quite a few cool filters.
  3. Latest version of Opera which runs (with KernelEx) is 10.70 build 3488. All subsequent builds don't run at all (with or without KernelEx).
  4. Yeah if you use the windows style there will be no checkboxes, you must use another skin and it will be fine.
  5. Change the icons with a program such as Desktop Architect and monitor the registry changes with something like Regshot. Unsure if the SP replace the actual icons through patching or if it does add them separately and changes the registry entries though.
  6. I think that most of what's in there is good for ME.
  7. Flippx, since Context Free is supposed to work on Windows 98 without any KernelEx, I think you should report this bug to its devellopers. and btw, you can download the previous version (2.1), which does not crash, from the wayback machine: http://web.archive.org/web/20080218000347/http://www.contextfreeart.org/download/ContextFreeInstall2.1.exe
  8. Windows 2000 compatibility mode for gimp.exe, not XP, and this holds true for all GTK applications. I use Gimp 2.6.8 without problems (with libgio-2.0-0.dll from Gimp 2.6.7 since the one from 2.6.8 doesn't work). Actually I use Gimp painter 2.6.8 from Sourceforge Japan since it has GEGL working properly unlike the "official" Gimp (an issue that has nothing to see with KernelEx but with Gimp itsef.) and loads skins properly unlike later versions.
  9. Hook99 is what you want: http://lbrisar.htmlplanet.com/e_hook.html B)
  10. Well then KernelEx doesn't load if this key is not there. Are you still getting this error message? If so it is the KernelEx uninstaller and you should find its entry in one of the standard registry startup keys I guess.
  11. If you delete KernelEx startup key in the registry it won't think it is still installed anymore as it won't try to load at all. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\MPRServices\KernelEx
  12. You'll find something here: http://alternativeto.net/software/teracopy/
  13. Running great here aside from perhaps a regression (already in the previous build actually) with Apophysis 2 which doesn't display rendered images on its main screen again, a big hourglass remaining indefinitely instead. http://sourceforge.net/projects/apophysis/files/apophysis/Apophysis%202.09/Apophysis-2.09.exe/download
  14. K3DSurf is a buggy application who never worked too properly AFAIK, I am not sure it can be fixed with KernelEx tbh, version 0.6 which I have installed is sort of workable though.
  15. That is most interesting. As you you may have read I've linked to Mandelbulb 3D in the post just above and in case it pick your fancy to investigate the feasability for other apps, I can think of Incendia http://www.incendia.net/ which is another awesome free 3D fractal application of which I have the single core version installed and which runs fine on stock 98/ME despite it is labeled as an XP/Vista software only. The free 3D renderer Kerkythea http://www.kerkythea.net/joomla/ featuring cutting edge physically accurate unbiased rendering engines, which runs only with KernelEx would certainly also be a candidate in my book. And I am sure there is no lack of audio/video transcoders running on 98/ME that are multicore capable on NT systems, I'll have a look at that eventually. I've also mentioned above the old versions of flagship Adobe products which I believe are multi processor capable but I am unsure whether they are capable of using multiple cores on current hardware when run on NT systems.
  16. It is not because you are not aware of something that it does not exist. Here you can grab Mandelbulb 3D for example: http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=13 I've had my 15 minutes of internet fame under the blob pseudonym with renders made with this application btw. In case you're interested by my cutting edge 3D fractal art see for example: http://orbittrap.ca/?p=1379 and http://sites.google.com/site/mandelbox/variations Even though that software runs surprisingly fast with one single core, I'd sure love to be able to upgrade my CPU as mentioned in my post above to boost its speed by a factor of 2. Besides that I think there are more than a few other recent applications that run on 98/ME (some perhaps requiring KernelEx) that are multicore capable and I am unsure whether the not so old Adobe applications such as Photoshop 7, Premiere 6.5, After Effects 6.5 which I all have could also eventually benefit as I think they are multi processors capable on NT/2K/XP systems.
  17. Is this something that is eventually going to evolve into a driver that allows the use of multiple cores by programs not written with your SDK? No. Explicit code is needed for inter-core communication so the Program needs to be coded for it. And no hope either a specially written dll could intercept, translate and redirect calls from already existing multicore capable applications to and back from your driver? I had some hopes I could look for an FX-60 to replace my FX-55 as to boost rendering speed of a few cool multicore capable apps I am using but I understand chances are slim this will be possible. Anyway all you are doing is very interesting. Cheers. B)
  18. Is this something that is eventually going to evolve into a driver that allows the use of multiple cores by programs not written with your SDK?
  19. No but perhaps you could ask your mate if he's got more information.
  20. I just mention that this can also generally be bypassed by going to View/Summary Information in Orca and changing the Schema field value from 300 to 200. Already pointed out by Tihiy somewhere in this thread I think. JoelC, there is no guarantee all NT/2K/XP programs will work because KernelEx is installed on your system, and this especially if those programs are working with low level NT stuff as I suspect yours might perhaps do.
  21. Sounds cool. You could probably fix this yourself without much effort I guess simply by deleting the [speed Dial Configuration Dialog Skin] and [speed Dial Global Configuration Dialog Skin] entries in the skin.ini file that is in the root dir of the zip of your affected skins. B)
  22. As mentioned in my post just above, you have the choice of using one or the other.
  23. loblo, as I said, if you use another skin than the Standard Opera, and you want it to be corrected for Windows 98/Me also, it is a better way to replace the original standard_skin.zip in the main directory (IMHO). Probably true for some skins but not for all I think as I tried several other skins while having the standard replacement one in place and cosmetic glitches reappeared. I don't think the standard skin has the power to override elements of any other selected skin. As far as I know it is used only as a fallback for whatever elements that don't exist in an optional skin. Anyway the two links are valid so you have the choice of replacing the standard skin or use the newest one as an optional skin only. I pretty much did the new one with a view to submitting it to the Opera database where it will have to be an optional one I guess. Edit: Also, having it as an optional skin does not require you to replace it each time you upgrade to a new version of the browser.
  24. True, I didn't mention that and I should have. Thanks for pointing it out for the non-geeks out there. Anyway the new version is ready. The only change is the file name and internal name so it can coexist with the original standard skin. It now can be (must be?) placed in the Opera/profile/skin directory and will need to be selected within Opera through the Appearance configuration dialog after installation. http://www.mediafire.com/?1hl6ok8vv8cp1vx
  25. Cool, thanks for the feedback CharlesF (as the spokesperson of this large and silent crowd. ) I think I'll upload it to the Opera skin database in the coming days if no problem shows up with it. B)
