  1. Yeah, I would like to replace my Vista default's to Sleep and Shut Down. Let us know if this works in Vista.
  2. I think this is a great question, BUT the title should be edited to reflect the question more appropriately, something like How to Add Custom Item to SendTo Menu... (and correct the misspelling in title). It will help with anyone searching for this.
  3. I think if you Google the net, you can find plenty of guides on how to network computers; although, TBH, I myself have not search for networking Vista / XP networking because I haven't had any problems other than my XP computers not showing in Vista Network (which I resolved with the MS Update - this information I found from Vista's help!!). One might consider using help in Vista before Googling - you never know you might find the answer. Making a guide for this would be like reinventing the wheel. Thus, people only post questions and troubleshooting on this forum rather than a guide. BUT WHO KNOWS, SOMEONE MIGHT BE INSPIRED BY THIS AND CREATE A GUIDE.
  4. Never tried it in WinPE but I do know that FileDisk utility can mount floppy images of the img or ima format, but not virtual floppy disk format (i.e. VFD) in BartPE. FileDisk requires some registry entries and I'm not sure how the registry keys can be incorporated to your winpe build. In BartPE, it is done with plugins and it works well.
  5. BCDedit is only for configuring BCD. It cannot replace your bootloader. Use your Vista DVD with the repair option. That should recover it. THEN use BCDedit to add XP and WinPE to your BCD. edit Interestingly enough, on XP with WAIK, I get an error with BCDEdit. On a computer without, no error. Go figure.
  6. This is a double post. It's essentially the same question reworded and different title.

  8. If your list is not in table format, convert it to table format by going to Table --> Convert. Select how many columns it will have. If it's a list, then most likely it will only be 1 column. Then choose how the text will be separated. Most likely, each item on your list is in a new line so you'd want to choose Paragraph. Then use the Sort function to list alphabetically.
  9. Select the portion that you want to clear of formatting. Then click on the Styles drop-down which is right before the Fonts drop-down. Select "Normal" the one by itself. Do not choose any other type of Normal. It will remove any formatting present, bold, italic, colors, special spacing, etc.
  10. Just insert a page break. It won't affect other pages. Insert --> break --> page break. Many options there.
  11. Yeah, that was the point I was trying to make by raising doubts. You won't know for sure you were hacked, when you were hacked, how you were hacked; unless the hacker left a trace just to let you know you weren't smart enough to secure your system. The question for the original poster is: How do you know you were hacked? What clues led you to think you were hacked? We are offering him advice without knowing the details.
  12. You may have heard that Vista has a firewall, where inbound in enabled but outbound is disabled. To enable outbound traffic, it is fairly difficult. Use this nice app that gives you pop ups like most other firewalls when an application is trying to access the internet. Vista Firewall Control It's not the best, but sure beats having to install one. Just use Vista's firewall with this and you'll know what program is trying to access the internet.
  13. This does not seem to work as I have done it and still get the annoying updater. It also persistently creates the Update5 folder in your My Documents, even after deleting it. The only trick that really works is to rename or delete adobeupdater.dll. I prefer renaming it to adobeupdater.dll.bak rather than deleting it. No more updater and no more Update5 folder.
  14. If ^p doesn't work, try replacing ^l with blanks. ^p is for paragraph breaks. ^l is for manual line breaks. Manual line breaks are created with Shift+Enter. Generally, when you copy stuff from the web and paste it, Word will recognize these line breaks as manual line breaks. So, if you view the formatting and see backward P's, use ^p. If you see the Enter arrow key, use ^l.
  15. I wouldn't try this: Exploits
  16. Humm, I've seen the abbrv OT but didn't know what it meant. What's it mean?
  17. Where are these logs located? I'm interested to find out.
  18. Just how do you know your computer was hacked? What sign did they leave behind? I've been using Windows forever and I still would not be able to know if my computer was hacked or was infected by a virus or malicious code. Don't get me wrong... I definitely would know I was infected by a virus or malicious code or when system starts going haywire, but I wouldn't know if someone did access my files and looked at my pics, etc.... because what trace would they leave??? Unless they left me a note or something, I wouldn't know if someone was snooping in my system. So, the question is, how do you know someone was snooping in your system? Or is your system just infected?
  19. I think the GUID for Vista depends on the beginning partition offset, not the ending. so if your beginning partition offset changes, then Vista will be unbootable.
  20. I do believe the folders ARE shared but you just can't see your XP computer from Vista because of Link-Layer Topology Discovery. For each XP computer you want to see in Vista Network, you have to install the LLTD update: Network Map Does not Display XP Computers. MS describes the problem trying to see XP computers in Vista there. Also, you don't need this if you just type \\ComputerName. It will go that computer and you'll see all your shared resources. Of type \\ComputerName\SharedFolder, it will go to it.
  21. It's not crazy or weird if you're using an LCD display. Cleartype is not for CRT's. I'm not sure why he wants it disabled. Segoe UI is much better than Tahoma as a display font in my opinion and I like ClearType.
  22. Post a screen shot. Have not clue what you are referring to.
  23. Type %userprofile% in the search box in start menu (or in Run). It will bring up all your personal folders. Right-click download --> location tab --> move location --> pick where you want your downloads to go. Done. You can change the location of all the other folders as well like Documents, Music, Pictures, Contacts, etc.
  24. I installed Vista on a 256 MB RAM laptop in a 6 GB partition using a sysprepped image. See my post here Install Vista on System that doesn't Meet Requirements. Evidently, in order to use a switch (setup.exe /nosyscheck) you must run it from within Windows, so you'll have to have Windows installed. I started from scratch with no Windows. Runs a little slow on 256 MB ram; certain apps take a long time to load but once they are running, not a big problem.
  25. Evidently you haven't visited the Unattended Vista section here. It's all there.
