  1. Well, there is this little tool too: http://www.commandline.co.uk/cmdow/ or this vbs solution: http://www.jsifaq.com/SUBS/tip9200/rh9242.htm or this spawner: http://www.joeware.net/win/free/tools/quiet.htm jaclaz
  2. When you boot from USB "Legacy" support, the connected device becomes first drive, so you should have multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1) Just in case nothing prohibits to add to your boot.ini some lines like: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Drive0 Partition 1" multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Drive0 Partition 1" ..... multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(n)\WINNT="Drive0 Partition n" multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT="Drive1 Partition 1" multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(2)\WINNT="Drive1 Partition 2" ..... multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(n)\WINNT="Drive0 Partition n" But I frankly doubt that a full install will boot from it (error 0x07B) see these threads: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=26612 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=40538 jaclaz

  4. Cannot say if they apply to your case, but you can try the following: http://www.hhdsoftware.com/ntsubst.html http://windowsxp.mvps.org/folderredirector.htm Or the built in redirection, (but you will need Active Directory and Group Policies): http://www.windowsdevcenter.com/pub/a/wind...r_redirect.html http://www.windowsitpro.com/Windows/Articl...0080/20080.html jaclaz
  5. Sorry, maybe I am becoming "diswritical". What I meant is boot from a BartPE, delete pagefile.sys and see if at next re-boot file is recreated. If you tried that and it does not work, next step is checking/changing Registry Settings, see here: http://aleeya.net/modules.php?name=Section...ticle&artid=231 http://www.petri.co.il/pagefile_optimization.htm You are not the only one with this problem: http://www.windowsitpro.com/Article/Articl...5507/15507.html jaclaz
  6. 7. At the moment this is not possible, or to be more exact it is not possible with NT based OS, though it is possible with Linux and DOS, by means of Grub: http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/ and/or syslinux/isolinux/memdisk: http://syslinux.zytor.com/iso.php (but it does not work on ALL systems) It can be used with DOS based OS too, as well as this somewhat experimental app by Gandalf : isoemu see here: http://knoppix.tnc.edu.tw/modules/newbb/vi...time=1099845538 http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-grub...0/msg00065.html (original page is down, but you can find it here: http://www.newhua.com/cfan/200414/down.htm http://www.newhua.com/cfan/200424/ISOEMU_5th.zip I think things are in the going about adding the isoemu feature to GRUB 2. There is also this file for dos (chinese as well): http://bbs.newssc.org/dispbbs.asp?BoardID=...D=131303&page=1 http://www.newhua.com/cfan/200503/loadiso.rar never tested it, though. jaclaz
  8. You could try this: http://www.abexo.com/defrag.htm it should disable existing pagefile, defrag it and reenable it. Or, you could try to boot from BRt, pisically delete the pagefile, then re-boot normally. Windows should re-create the pagefile, and maybe this time settings will be accessible. jaclaz
  9. @Mc Gregor Welcome on the board. Please use the SEARCH function of the board before posting the nth request for the same info. Read this: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=45910 and ALL linked elder posts. @tjhart85 1) It is perfectly possible, though using different means than WINNT.SIF 2) Actually the tool to (basically) make an MSBATCH.INF is on the Win98 CD, (and it was even on the Windows 95 one), so IT WAS in the minds of the MS people. Could I suggest you to look for some backing before posting? And again, searching on the board would have helped. jaclaz
  10. @mikenj Welcome on the board. Read these also: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=35349 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=40303 (a search on the board very often gives results) jaclaz
  11. Could it be this? From : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=315270 jaclaz
  12. Nonetheless, you can make the drive boot with BartPE or DOS/WIN9x, than install from it, see the given links and these ones: http://www.911cd.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=11250 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=42891&hl= http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=36062 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=33303 (only problem, if you use an nlited image and boot in DOS/Win9x is that the WINNT.EXE has still some problems, while WINNT32.EXE seems to work OK) And keep an eye on this: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=42234&hl= jaclaz
  13. @Sonarcade Maybe there is a basic misunderstanding, making a drive bootable, only means that it will start booting, not that it will actually boot unless an adequate operating system is correctly installed on the drive. Here is a simple faq: 1) Can I boot Windows XP from an USB drive? NO. 2) Can I boot DOS/Windows 9x/ME from an USB Drive? YES. 3) Can I boot Linux from an USB Drive? YES. 4) So I cannot boot Windows XP from an USB drive? NO, you CANNOT, but you can boot Bart PE, which is a "modified" Windows XP, so that it can be booted from CD/DVD rom OR from USB. http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ USB support is still somehow experimental, but read these: http://www.911cd.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=7632 http://www.911cd.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=10806 http://www.911cd.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=11213 jaclaz
  14. Just for the record, Savepart is here: http://www.partition-saving.com/ Last version (I did not test it) is v.3.00, it uses the zlib compression library 1.2.2:http://www.zlib.net/ that should be faster in compression/decompression. jaclaz
  15. @All Hey, guys, why don't you take it easy , and actually READ the request: most probably ZeroHour did not mean to use the term "ISO editor". @ZeroHour You can use good old mkisofs, part of cdrtools: homepage: http://cdrecord.berlios.de/old/private/cdrecord.html Win32 port: http://www.sbox.tugraz.at/home/t/tplank/ and CDrecord: http://cdr.dpaehl.de/ jaclaz
  16. Try these: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;287497 http://www.slipstick.com/problems/scanpst.htm http://www.sitedeveloper.ws/tutorials/outlook.htm http://techrepublic.com.com/5100-1035_11-5054599.html also check these ($): http://www.mailnavigator.com/reading_ms_ou..._pst_files.html http://www.recover-my-email.com/ jaclaz
  17. The above is just a pre-assumption that isn't true anymore on newer machines with lots of memory and was never proved to be accurate on elder one. Have a read here: http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm http://www.petri.co.il/pagefile_optimization.htm @Sh4dow Do you have just one partition on more than one on those machines? (If more than one, did you gave the correct partition?) If you have another spare HD, can you try to hook it up on one of the machines and try making the pagefile on this second one? jaclaz
  18. Why don't you just READ this post of mine, linked above: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=33030 and links? To boot an NT OS (NT/2k/XP/2003) you need to have these files: NTLDR BOOT.INI NTDETECT.COM (and NTBOOTDD.SYS if machine has SCSI/SATA hard disks) on the FIRST ACTIVE PARTITION of the FIRST DRIVE (boot drive). The operating system can be installed (generally in /WINNT for NT/W2K and in /WINDOWS for XP/2003) in ANY PARTITION on ANY DRIVE, even in a LOGICAL VOLUME inside an EXTENDED partition. In your case (I am assuming that you have a single primary Active partition, that will get letter "C" on the 80GB drive and a single active primary partition on the 3 GB one, that will get letter "D") : 1) Boot from the win2k CD 2) Install Win2k onto D:\WINNT 3) Boot from the WINXP CD 4) Install XP on C:\WINDOWS DONE! You will have two choices at boot time, Windows XP or Windows 2000. If you have more than these partitions things are a bit more complicated but still easy doable. 22. engjcowi Please READ the previous posts before re-adding same info, already posted by other people. Besides, if you were trying to help Sonarcade, he needed help to boot from an USB hard drive, NOT an USB stick. jaclaz
  23. There is NO problem in dual-booting 2k and XP. The correct order is 2k first, XP second, as a rule of thumb, always install Operating System in the order they were released. If you did it the other way round, you just need to copy on the root of first active partition the files NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM from XP. Have a look at this: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=43748 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=33030 jaclaz

  25. Which version of Excel is it? Is it part of office 2003? Versions "should" be the following: 8.0 for Office 97 9.0 for Office 2000 10.0 for Office XP 11.0 for Office 2003 What exact error does it give? Look at these: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...02-DE3BB768148F http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=324516 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=296931 Also you need an updated Internet Explorer, but not "TOO" updated, read here: http://discussions.virtualdr.com/showthread.php?t=121879 jaclaz
