  2. @cartoonist wow, bummer. sounds like there is no fixing this problem and any further troubleshooting isnt necisary. *sarcasm* the desktop.ini file contains some customizations to the folder, try deleting that file and refresh your directory listing. have you tried renaming the folder to something liek temp to see if its some strange long file name issue. sorry getting lazy dont want to read through the posting to see if you have. hope you all figure it out, i personally havent ran into this problem, sharing under any service pack level has always been flawless. add all machine into the same workgroup. do you get same issue when you map a drive?
  3. use a crossover cable and connect both pcs together to rule out your switch/hub. guessing that its not a problem with your switches/hubs do this. on the folder that is shared go to properties/security tab. add everyone group, give it full controll, remove everthing else, hit apply. click advanced button check box "allow inhertable permission" and "replace permissions" click apply, on the remote machine reboot, open the share. what do you get, try this with your crossover cable. if this doesnt solve or help the issue, fresh install on the server with an original non-nlite cd. ive tried that nlite program before and i dont prefer it becuase of all the modification it can do, makes me feel like it removes its default behaviour even if i dont have it modify anything. this problem here further makes me more unsure of nlite. there was a really cool batch program that used to only do one thing, integrate a sp into a windows disk (wincdman). the program is now out of date and doesnt support win2k3sp1. last i looked there was an updated c built version of it, but it sucked as it never finished the process. *offtopic below* anyone know of a program like the old wincdman that it only integrates a sp into a windows cd?
  4. i should have investigated before i asked, im refering to some ati cards and they have an hdtv adapter (cool!) that works with a series of their products. i believe i need their catalyst software to enable 1080i. now can i encode the hd channels as hd, and which hardware would i need? http://www.ati.com/products/hdtvadapter/faq.html

    MCE HDTV

hello all, i was thinking of setting up an media center pc using mediaportal, or MCE. my satelliete reciever is an hdtv reciever. my television is also an hdtv it also has a component video interface which the sattelite is plugged into and configured for 1080i. as all of us with HDTV's know, the hd channels are the shiznit. i know when i introduce a media center box, i would be plugging in the sattelite into the pc, then the pc into the tv, but if i do so i think i will loose my precous 1080i resolution with the hd channels *snif, snif*. the tv has a rgb video input on it, and my video card has a dvi dual diplay to it. if i hook the pc into the rgb input on the tv would i get hi-res (1080i) on the tv or do i need a special video out port that sends the 1080i signal?
  6. on the pcs that cannot see these folders: load exporer click tools, folder options.. go to "view" tab select "show hidden files and folders"
  7. i have a drive running out of space. It is running an archaic service that does not allow me to change its logging path to a unc path. i need to be able to map this local folder called "calls" to a network path. are there built in methods, or free utils that would do it. i could always map a drive to a network path, but i would need the profile to be logged in always which isnt to convienient. there is folder redirection which is what im looking for, but its only for the special/certain folders that im aware of.
  8. have you recieved the cpu yet and did that fix the problem?
  9. ****, i hate these types of issues because troubling the problem is always a guessing game at this point. the problem to me sounds like a hardware issue and i would first start with the memory. if it passes diagnostics then its a 50/50 chance of the motherboard and processor. i had an issue similar to this not that long ago and i chose the processor. after i swapped it, it worked rock solid again, however if after i would have swapped that and it still would have been failing i would to have had to swap the motherboard. also dont be to quick to eliminate the powersupply, if you have a spare one swap it out first and try that. it could be a simple overheating problem also, if your lucky. check the fan is properly seated on the procesor. your on the right track eliminating all your extra pci cards, though to bad it wasnt one of them that was causing the problem.
  10. the point hes trying to make (i think). in the corporate environment all you need to do is purchase a license, the media is the cost of a cd. i dont think thats the case for home, or retail xp though.. i think its up in the air, but i would have to lean more towards it being illegal. it would be easier for you to distribute your porgram anyway if you just make an installer and not send out the entire windows xp cd with it integrated in.
  11. since the age of my camera olympus.com does not have 2k3 or xp drivers on there site. the xp compatible driver works in xp, anyone know where the camera drivers are at on an xp machine?
  12. my olympus d-340r camera works great in xp and is included with xps camera drivers list. i want to install the camera in 2k3 though, however when i try, there are no drivers in 2k3 camera driver list. ive already got the image aquisition service started and set to enabled. is there any way i can take the .inf from xp and use the have disk in 2k3 to install my driver in 2k3?? any clues to where i could start looking to find the entire list of cameras or my specific models inf. any info would be helpful

  14. hello all. im trying to setup a web site and having troubles getting to it via the internet, but works fine on local lan. i have a public ip address on the router and am doing port forwarding of port 80 to my iis box. ive also tryed port forwarding a port other than 80 and configured teh website to use that port, but still can only access the site on local lan. it the midst of troubleshooting the problem i dont have the website using any hostheader, and ive got it using all ip addresses on the box. im thinking its some kind of routing problem, but i can forward other ports for other services and the services work fine. the only way i can get it to work is when i assign the iis box the public ip address, but i would like to not do that for obvious reasons.
