I'm sorry, I don't understand what are you looking for, could you elaborate better what you plan to do? jaclaz

Out of topic, but not much, here is a GREAT file renaming utility (FREEWARE): http://www.1-4a.com/rename/ and it also features Star Trek dates: http://www.1-4a.com/rename/stardate.htm (not actually useful, though) jaclaz

Have a look here: http://www.computergripes.com/nortonantivirus2005.html There may be a solution. jaclaz

Yes, that's better. However the problem now is which tool will allow you to load an ISO image to boot from. The ISOEMU mentioned in my previous post only works for int13h compatible Operating Systems....(and only on some configurations) Provided you have enough space in the boot floppy image, for DOS and Win9x you can try using one of the apps that come with SHSUCDX: http://www.geocities.com/jadoxa/shsucdx/ The bartPE+win2003 boot from ISO solution does work: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=10482&hl= The problem is to combine the two. Also have a look at this: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=12713&hl= And, regarding Command Console: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=8853 http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=12777&hl= jaclaz

help regarding opening msdos, its not openig in XP
jaclaz replied to sonal_khodiyar's topic in Windows Tips 'n' Tweaks
Yes, here is the MS related page: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...7&Product=winxp It seems like it is a common problem with some installs of SP2, see here: http://forums.adventuregamers.com/showthread.php?t=6371 jaclaz -
Actually, if you are on XP, you should NOT use the AT command, which is mantained for backwards compatibility. See here: http://www.ss64.com/nt/at.html you should use schtasks: http://www.ss64.com/nt/schtasks.html Also, batch files under NT/2K/XP/2003 should have extension .cmd, not .bat, see here: http://home.earthlink.net/~rlively/MANUALS...MANDS/C/CMD.HTM Renaming it to .vbs is pure nonsense Finally you might have the extension improperly registered, if so try running it like this: C:\WinNT\System32\CMD.EXE mybat.cmd jaclaz

.....hmmmm, it looks to me like you are making some confusion: 1) The entries in boot.ini can be of TWO types: #a an arcpath,i.e. something like multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT where the destination is an INSTALLED version of an NT based system, i.e. NT/2K/XP/2003 #b a "normal path, i.e. something like c:\cmdcons\bootsect.dat where the destination is a BOOTSECTOR file, or better a 512 byte file containing a VALID bootsector In both cases in the SAME (ROOT) directory of the boot.ini must reside AT LEAST NTLDR (case #a above needs also NTDETECT.COM and, if you have SCSI or SATA disks the proper driver renamed as NTBOOTDD.SYS) 2) You CANNOT start a program, ie. something like c:\utils\nghost\ghost\ghost.exe c:\i386\winnt32.exe WITHOUT loading BEFORE an OPERATING SYSTEM 3) I never tried using MagicISO to do such an image, but definitely the "C:" drive will NOT be the CD-ROM There is however a (not always working) possibility, by loading a floppy Image with DOS (or better with a Windows 98 DOS) or loading a version of BartPE. This can be achieved through a few different programs, all of them somehow tricky to use: a) the Chinese vfloppy: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=10878 b) Grub4Dos http://grub4dos.sourceforge.net/ c) the VERY experimental ISOEMU (that should still be somwhere in the net): http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=8955 and indirectly with: d) CDshell diskemu/memdisk http://www.cdshell.org/index.html e) some others that I haven't a handy link to right now, like BCDW and Bootscriptor jaclaz

Quite a lot of interesting info. Thanks, jaclaz

A good way to understand why it does not work is to put some PAUSE statements between lines. This will stop the execution of the batch until you press a key, so that you can inspect C:\ftpc.txt with Notepad and see if anything is wrong. Also REM out this: REM ftp -n -d -s:%f% > C:\out.txt and change it to ftp -n -d -s:%f% PAUSE this way you'll see the error (if any) in the ftp part. jaclaz

There are also a few FREEWARE apps: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/accesspv.html http://www.shatterock.com/products/software/dbpwd/ http://www.everythingaccess.com/accesspass...trievallite.htm Try the above before paying a commercial app. jaclaz

Why not using some FREEWARE, like CDrecord/CDtools: http://www.sbox.tugraz.at/home/t/tplank/ jaclaz

As said elsewhere, the usage of CDIMAGE or CDIMAGE GUI is questionable as it is "for internal use only" mkisofs has the same optimizing capabilities. and there is a GUI for it too: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...0243&hl=mkisofs jaclaz

Sorry, cross-posting. Added link to tinyhexer in my previous post. jaclaz

Nice Idea! It should be possible to do that from batch with the help of some of the Clay's utilities: http://ww2.netnitco.net/users/cruth/claysutl.html and/or with tinyhexer: http://www.mirkes.de/en/freeware/tinyhex/features.php jaclaz

If it was not encrypted, you can access it from DOS, with a tool like this: http://www.datapol.de/dpe/freeware/ you copy the data onto another drive, than format the partition from DOS and restore the data. Or you could try re-taking ownership/permissions with a tool like this: http://www.gbordier.com/gbtools/fileacl.htm jaclaz

Once and for all, Partition Magic is NOT capable of RECOVERY of a damaged partition or of the data within it: http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/features.html It is a tool to create/tune/resize/modify/change/split/merge partitions, it also includes a boot manager. By using the recovery floppies it is possible IN A VERY SMALL NUMBER of cases, to undelete a partition, that's all. It is the direct match with Acronis Partition Manager and Acronis Boot Manager, NOT with Acronis Recovery Expert, which is a good app to recover data/partitions. Windows Disk Administration CANNOT recover partitions, using it may result in losing any chance of recovery. As said in the linked posts and elsewhere on the board, there are just two FREEWARE data/partition recovery tools: TESTDISK (and PHOTOREC) http://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk.html and PC INSPECTOR FILE RECOVERY http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm Then there are tens of COMMERCIAL ones. There are also tens if not hundreds of FREEWARE and COMMERCIAL tools for the "professionals" or "very advanced users" to manually recover data, but the use of them needs a deep knowledge of how hard disks, filesystems and records work. jaclaz

You need what is called ethernet booting or PXE booting. You will need a DHCP/PXE SERVER in the lan. Almost ALL nic's have the socket to put a ROM, most of the newish motherboard already have it integrated. See here: http://etherboot.sourceforge.net/ http://rom-o-matic.net/ http://silent.gumph.org/content/4/7/071-di...indows-pxe.html http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=39928 If you are not talking about diskless workstations, you can do it with a floppy or hard disk: http://www.roudybob.net/?p=124 Search with google for PXE booting or PXE boot and will find the needed info. jaclaz
