  1. I love these forums. Ok, I just need some recommendations for a very efficient registry cleaner. I have tried Fix-It Utilities, Registry First Aid, RegScrubXP, RegSupreme keeps showing thousands of "SlowInfoCache" and crashes...anything else good?
  2. Nuhi, that is really unfair just to blow our effort-stressed attempts out of the water like that. I don't even DO activation on my system and neither do Corporate users. It gets rid of several things and makes things faster. Why would THIS particular thing make nLite illegal??? I see no difference between this and when someone posts about codecs not working for WMP because nLite "did something not quite right somewhere"...so then things get debugged and you fix things just like you fixed the startup lag from removed Event Log Service. So what gives? PS: There are already like half a dozen components in nLite that make it so you can't activate, so I see absolutely no difference with this...
  3. Well, I can't remember what my boot time was under a normal XP install. Probably 40+ seconds. I don't have a RAID setup or anything. I just use nLite and disable Services. That's all. 17 seconds.
  4. It mentioned faster boot time. Mine is 17 seconds.
  5. So is this file needed for Activation or something related to it? It would be nice to get rid of a file this big.
  6. Web browser - Firefox (AdMuncher, which isn't freeware...for adblocking) Music - I did use 1By1 but now I use Winamp 5.06 because of the Internet Radio. Video - Media Player Classic I don't use Antivirus or spyware programs as I don't have any malicious files on my HD. Registry cleaner/PC maintenance - JV16 PowerTools Chat - Miranda Video production - WinDV, VirtualDub, TMPGEnc, Adobe Premiere Pro, DVDAuthorGUI. DVD copying - DVD Shrink. p2p - Shareaza Can't think of anything else right now.
  7. ? Zxian, well, when I reformat, it takes me about an hour and a half because of I have an 111 GB HD. If there is a way to command Windows to only reformat the used space on the HD, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! Anyway, after that, it takes 10-15 minutes for me to install my nLited Windows XP. After that...it takes me over an hour to reinstall and reconfigure everything, tweakng, etc... Not too bad for something I do every time a new version of nLite comes out...which is roughly two weeks. LOL, sometimes I skip a version.
  8. Because I have used nLite, my system is still less bloated than that as far as what is present on the system, not only HD space.
  9. Looks rather bloated to me. Keep in mind that I used the nLite tool that is being developed by Nuhi over at http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=89 to significantly slim down my system. Nice theme, though. I don't like big mouse cursors.

  11. I have been using Hotmail for years and I rarely get any "spam". I get maybe one weird e-mail a week and it quickly goes to my Trash Bin where it is deleted. I recently got 250 MBs in my Hotmail account and 2 MBs was more than I ever needed. I only get e-mail from 2 or 3 people and half the time all one person sends me are forwards which are automatically deleted because I HATE forwards. "Send this to 20 people or your girlfriend will leave you, no joke! Don't break the chain!" What a bunch of BS! Who comes up with this trash and even bothers with it in the first place. I think people have to be missing quite a few bolts to go along with this crap. Anyways, I'm fine with Hotmail. That's my say.
  12. Miranda, supports 5 clients just like Trillian and has a much easier and more customizable interface and settings, hundreds of plug-ins with their own unique abilities. http://www.miranda-im.org/
  13. No, I am not having 100% CPU Usage issues... My curiosity is that over time, explorer.exe consumes almost 20 MBs of RAM and then as soon as I open Windows Explorer and minimize it to the Task bar, the RAM consumption goes down to about 1.2 MBs. Over time it will get to 15 MBs again and I will open WE and minimize it yet again and back down to 1.2...what gives? Can I stop it from going up so high?
  14. I use Fix It Utilities' Reg Fixer feature, Reg First Aid and RegScrub. FIU's also has a Registry Defragmenter which I use every once and a while.
  15. Take your Windows XP CD and browse to the I836 folder and find the file "WINNT.SIF" and open it with NotePad and you will see your Serial Number.
  16. I hate Diskeeper, froze my system the first time I used it. Anything that needs THAT much power to defrag was coded way wrong. Diskeeper walked down the wrong path IMHO.
  17. IMHO, the three aspects to take into consideration when choosing a browser are 1. Security 2. Features 3. User-friendliness
  18. I don't like the new v7.0. It doesn't seem to see my external firewire Maxtor HD. Also, changes to the GUI that I don't like. v6.0 works fine for me.
  19. A few years back I had 21 IE windows opened and IE took up 120+ MBs of RAM. IE = x1000 FF = x1000
  20. I don't really DL much anymore. The very first file sharing experience I did was back when the old Napster was still up and I downloaded Limp Bizkit - Rollin'.mp3 and listened to it all day because I was excited about my first time downloading a song. I have tried pretty much every program out there. Even ones unmentioned in this thread. Napster, WinMX (used this a lot back in its day...its old and dead to me though), LimeWire (had it for 10 minutes, hated it), eMuLe (good for those rare appz you can't find anywhere else), FileTopia (128 bit encyption, latest of everything and oldest of the foreign, file sharing complete with chat rooms...though...I have spent more than 6 years on this client...the place has become corrupt as its mostly "political" these days...the Operators follow the rules by Their books and I am one to bend rules so I eventually didn't fit in...but if you behave it is rather good...)...DirectConnect (I hate this one). Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Now I use Shareaza for the odd song I DL once and a while and the newest version of a program I use. I use BitTornado for Torrents from Suprnova.org. I'm satisfied.
  21. Ok this just p***es me off. Someone named Sara telling users to use Maxthon like her because SHE thinks FF is ugly. Well, I am sorry missy just because you don't like a particulart shade of some color that you can change just by switching themes on your PC if you're so inclined. When it comes to things that browsers are designed to do, FF is probably the best with security, customization, etc. Do not tell everyone else to abandon an EXCELLENT browser because YOU don't like the f*cking color. Smarten the hell up. I'm sorry but for this day and age with the threats out there and how often I get ZERO spyware and pop-ups...the APPEARANCE is simply trivial! I vote FireFox all the way. Opera is a good one too. Sara, hmm, you anger me. Firefox is not slow for me, so you seem to have problems. NOT FF!
