  1. Open Computer Management on the server and chech sessions under Shared Folders and see "where" are you already connected. If you find it, just disconnect it. Did you try to log-on as any other user? Did you get any error?
  2. Do you want to limit all users or just some? Are you using Terminal Server? Try removeing application shortcuts from "All Users" Start menu folder ... other than that if you're using TS you can try to create some policies
  3. The only problem with SBS is that supports only single AD and domain. Other than that, excellent solution for small business
  4. Of course for company with that user profile, sure you should use it. I thought you just want to buy it 4 yourself anyway, eveythin you named (except CPU support) you can find in Standard Edition. Standard Edition supports up to 4 CPUs, but has all those services you need, and probably it's a bit cheaper.
  5. First you have to understand groups scope to know what group should you use. 1. Domain Local Group are used primarily to assign access permissions to global groups for local domain resources. These groups can include members from any domain within the forest, trusted domain in other forists and from trusted down-level domains- 2. Global Groups are used primarily to categorize membership in domain local groups 3. Universal Groups are used to gran acess to resources in all trusted domains If you want just to group users i.e. after department they work in, then just use default "Global Group" and group type "Security"
  6. Why would you buy Ent. of w2k3? Any particular reason? 800$ is probably OEM license, and I hope you know what that means.
  7. Well there are different opinions regarding what services should one shut down. Personaly, I this that's up to administrator to decide, as what purpose your server will serve. Anyway you can search bit on the Internet regarding some common services that you can shut down. As per IP, you can't really use single IP on 2 different NIC (neither on the same computer nor same subnet), but you can use 2 different subnets i.e. 172.16.1.x and 172.16.2.x As per hub, well your hub is 10/100 and NICs are 100/1000 so there is a 100 Mbps that matches even though if I was you I would use switch, today switches are not expensive, but you will gain more from the switch than from the hub. As per router, I don't think that router processor will affect performance of your connection at any time, unless you find yourself under some DoS attacks ...
  8. I don't think you will find any freeware AV as corporate edition (to run on server platforms)
  9. Hi, when you try to map and admin share as \\host\c$ it will ask you for username and password of an admin user of a computer you're trying to map a admin share from. So if you're want to map a C drive on PC1 onto PC2 then you will need a username and password of an admin user of PC1. Hope this helps.
  10. Could be, but it could be also type of your license ... even though I think that the basic OEM license supports up to 4 cpus
  11. On your Windows XP client computer, right click on My Computer, Properties, Computer Name, click on button Change and select Radio button for domain, type in a domain name, and be ready to type in a domain admin username and password
  12. Hi, well I've tried that, but my PC just doesn't get an IP address from DHCP server even thou DHCP is configured to deliver IP addresses to both DHCP and BOOTP clients ... If I use for example Acronis True Image to boot from, the PC gets an IP with no problems, but during PXE it just doensn't ...
  13. I don't think you can use single IP address on 2 lan cards ... bridge should be used to connect 2 different subnets or networks ...
  14. Are you using stand-a-lone server or a DC?
  15. Just add a bit more RAM, and you're good to go ... and there is a significant difference between w2k and w2k3
  16. Can you plese list your Share as well as NTFS permissions on your shares? Anyway, the number of CALs for w2k3 will determine how many clients can actually access the share. CALs for w2k dones't work with w2k3.
  17. Try this ... http://www.msfn.org/win2k3/ hope it helps P.S. There was a sticky in this forum on how to convert w2k3 server to workstation
  18. You can use Group Policy Management Console to export all your policies but to document a AD you can use VISIO Professional 2003 ...
  19. I don't think you can actually "see" all the clients if they're using different subnets, but using IP address to explore them should be just enough
  20. As logng as you don't format your partition where your files are located you should be able to read that partition. If you've used volumes instead, don't forget to import "Foreign" volumes after downgrade
  21. By default computer can be member of only one domain (by membership) but can access other domains that have trusts with your home domain ... You can't however pick a domain and logon unless there is a trust between your computer and domain (unless your computer is either joined to the particular domain, or is a member of a domain that has a trust with target domain)
