  1. ON the upper right corner there is a search function ... very usefull
  2. WUS is the new name for SUS WUS = Windows Update Services SUS = System Update Services
  3. Try downloading group management console from MS site
  4. You can upgrade from client to server os, but not downgrade from server to client os
  5. Oh sture it's an option just get for the sake of the test a PCMCI NIC and try again ...
  6. Well since you've tried all options, the only thing left to try is changing the NIC ..
  7. Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like there are almost unlimited possibilities with RIS. To be honest, I didn't know this ... anyway I can see that there are many resources for RIS spread arrond on the Internet, and I can see that there is a lot of people on this forum with potential for RIS as well as other technologies, so, I have a suggestion ... I was thinking to establish a new web page for RIS and unattended windows isntallation, possibly WUS and other MS technologies as well with many but really many tutorials, so if these really experienced gurus are interested in sharing their knowledge to others, just let me know, I'll set up a portal in no time
  8. good thinking - i shud have thought of that (doh) router - my network ip address is 198.162.0.2 so how do i port forward this?thx <{POST_SNAPBACK}> On your router there is a function called Port Forwarding and make sure you forward port 21 to 198.162.0.2
  9. Well I finally figured out the problem with autoparitioning while installing Windows from RIS. Anyway, place the following code inside your answer file (remboot.sif) [RemoteInstall] Repartition=No UseWholeDisk=No Once setup is started it will stop at the point where you should partition our hard drive. Once you finish with partitioning, setup will continue. I still however didn't figure out how to let setup generate computer names other than after username. My computers are called after department they're placed in. If you know how to do this, please share it with me.
  10. Try to turn off the firewall and then try to connect ...
  11. what the f*** so hows anyone suppose to use FTP? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 1. you can use any oter port to access ftp, like ftp://111.111.111.111:6659 in this case ftp is running on port 6659 2. how do you access the Internet? Do you use router? If so, you have to configure port forwarding function
  12. Try configuring alternative configuration and then try to connect ...
  13. When using an Exchange server, mail is stored on the server. PST file is created ONLY if you're making archive, pther than that PST is not created at all. All mails are stored on the server. That's why you can access it through OWA as well ...
  14. 1. Create a folder on your server called Profiles and share it as Profiles$ ($ will hide share from share view). Opem Active Direcotry Users and Computers and on each users Profile tab in the section Profile type \\servername\Profiles$\%username% ("servername" replace with your actual name of the server). Once user logs on, the profile on the server will be created. Everything from C:\Documents and Settings\%Username% will be copied over to the server including Outlook profile and My Documents folder. Dig up GPO and find policy something like this "Add administrators to users profile ...." or something similar. Anyway this will allow you as admin to see inside user profile. 2. I personally I don't like to keep PST file inside the profile, because my users keep thousands of e-mails (even back from 1996) as well as My Documents folder. So I've made redirection of My Documents folder to D drive (each of mine computers has both C and D drives) using GPO, users have network attached drive (P:\) for their most important files (everyday backup), and PST file is placed inside My Documents folder (i.e. D:\My Documents\Exchange\username.pst) PST file MUST be moved manually, as far as I know. I was looking also for some way once user profile is created to automate moving of PST file as well as updating of the path to PST file in Outlook settings but no luck so far ... the other solution is once user logs on, and you connect him to e-mail server, you can manually place PST file under their home folder (Network Attached Drive, in my case P:\ so it's placed in P:\Exchange\username.pst) so no matter where do they logon, they have their e-mails with them. The problem comes with size of PST file (if your users keep buch or emails) due to backup ...
  15. Well if you go online w/ clinet computer over that server, then you have to configure routing and remote access and configure it as router ... this is becasue you've mentioned that you have no problems w/ accessing the intranet ... so I assume the server has 2 NICs, 1 for intranet another for Internet ... if I'm wrong, please just dieeregard my post

    XPlode help

    So there is no way this that I use in older XPlode can be "reused" ... (?) thanks <item display='Copying Windows installation files for later use' image="%SOURCEPATH%\Postinstall\images\"> <copy source='%SOURCEPATH%\i386\' target='%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Windows\Options\i386\' arguments='*.*' /> <copy source='%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Install\Sysprep\' target='%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Windows\Options\Sysprep\' arguments='*.*' /> <copy source='%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Install\Sysprep\' target='%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Sysprep\' arguments='*.*' /> <copy source='%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Install\' target='%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Windows\Options\Install\' arguments='*.*' /> </item>

    XPlode help

well, probably I'm just too stupid 4 this , but ... I've used previous version of XPlode and it' works just fine ... now I see many new stuff in the new version, and I just wonder how to make some stuff, like how to set user password to never expires ... how to copy i386 and $OEM$ folder over to C:\Windows\Options ... anyway, to make my question easier, can anyone make an example xml file with all options used, so we (stupid lol) can just change what we need, and remove stuff we don't need? I hope it's not much to ask for Thanks
  18. well there are some rules for WUS .... WUS CAN'T run on domain controller, but MUST run on a member server, and your server MUST be member of an AD domain ...
  19. did you configure routing and remote access?
  20. Well finally I've made it, it works, and now I've made an answer file for RIS remboot.sif, but I'm not quite sure where this file should be placed ...
  21. Did you try your computer on any other network?
  22. make a file called registry.reg and call it from runonce.cmd
  23. When I said member server, I mean that you can't use WUS on domain controller but you MUST use it on the server that is member of a AD domain. SO basically you would need another computer with Windows Server 2003 installed (minimum standard edition) and the just join it to the domain as you do with workstations and then install WUS. But since you've said you have only 4 computers, I don't think installing another server would pay off unless you use unlicensed software
