  1. Allow me to clarify Drewatrip.....<strike>(over XP home)</strike> I reformatted the drive and did a clean install FthrJACK, Thanks for the advice, I shall take a peek
  2. Yes indeedy! Hold onto your drawers because this is a story of epic proportions w00t If you thought fellowship of the ring was good, then this is a must see movie. On the HashDump scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest, I'd have to rate this movie as a 9....the only thing that could have been done differently was to add 3D glasses I find myself panting for the release of Return of the King
  3. Hello fellow MSFNites, I went out and bought an emachine yesterday to setup as my server here at home. (okay, so emachine is CHEAP alternative) I loaded Windows 2K server (over XP home), install went easy. Looked in device manager and noticed I had to install some drivers. Pulled out the Emachine disks and loaded video drivers, audio drivers, chipset drivers, all no problem. Device manager is not recognizing USB controller or PCI controller. Found out Mobo is Imperial cannot locate this outfit to find these drivers. Any reasonable suggestions or advice you may have? And no, taking the machine back is not an alternative
  4. Speedz, My suggestion was already mentioned by FthrJACK. This would definately tell you if it was your monitor or your card
  5. xsivforce makes a good point
  6. :santa Happy Holidays to you and everyone here FthrJACK! :sorcerer
  7. MSNWar...excellent site..Thanks!
  8. Okay ckullas, This is my last attempt. Try shutting down services one at a time and I am confident you will find your culprit. To do this go to start>control panel>performance and maintenance>administrative tools>services> then stop a service by right clicking on a given service and selecting the stop command. Keep in mind that some services may render your OS unusable but with trial and error you WILL find what is continously accessing your hard drive. Keep us posted on your success.
  9. Well then Alex...er.um...ah...FthrJACK, you cannot have your cake and eat it too, one must have to give something (i.e. username/password) before one gets w00t
  10. Gee FTHRJack, Not to be disrespectful but is it something you're doing, or in this case not doing? I've read somewhere that using the Network wizard in XP is a BIG PAIN IN THE BUTT. Are you having to rejoin the domain everytime you log in? Try joing the domain manually without relying on the wizard. Let me know what you discover
  11. ckullas, Try checking the size of your page file, could be your setting is too low and the OS is continually moving instructions in and out of your memory (thrashing). You can right click on my computer>properties>advanced tab>performance options>virtual memory>change> this setting should be about (looking to the others for help here) 5% of your hard drive size. This instructions are for a W2K box...I'm sure XP is somewhat similiar in accessing this option. good luck
  12. Rick, see if you can run mmc. To do this go to Start>Run...type in mmc...click enter...a console should popup allowing you to add snap ins from the File menu thereby allowing you to check various settings
  13. w00t You gotta click on the Click here for help link w00t

  18. Okay Crew, Anyone here have any experience with setting up an Exchange Server? Any suggestions, advice, forewarnings? I'd like to set up an exchange server here at home on my network that consists of a whopping 5 w00t workstations. Thanks in advance
  19. Xperties! ssshhhhh! If the kid wants to get a new board and make some money on his old board, he should be allowed to do so. (what he's really saying is) ssshhhhh! If I can get a deal from the kid, then I have myself a state of the art mobo!
