Hey nuhi ^^ Had a problem last night with my nLite, coss i dont have outlook express n the mail api it needs, the latest windows messenger live doesnt work WLM_8_1_064.exe (version 8.1.064 beta) it somehow needs the mapi32.dll and gives an error about mpr.dll I think u have to test it for urself to really know if that is the problem, if not, i will format sunday evenin n leave the mail api in, and i hope it ll solve the problem... for now i'll just go back to an earlier non beta version. also could u clearify wot do to with the mpr.dll file? i do have it, but i guess its part of a program a lil googlin gave this, but still dont know wot to select in nLite to keep This isnt ur fault btw coss stupid microsoft wants the turn Windows Messenger Live into Windows Messenger Live With Build in Outlook Express Feature Crap.. Ur work is great stuff n i format at least once if a new nLite version comes out Cheers!!

NT -> moves pages from RAM to swap even with 1GB of unused ram -> much slower when trying to access these pieces of data. But still fast enough, don't misunderstand me (maxthon nmay have 50MB of used memory, there's still 350MB of paged data!). When comparing XP with 2k, people did not think "hey, my computer does not have enough ram", but instead started wondering what the hell MS developpers had done with this OS. However, this is getting incredible here. As a part-part-part-part-part-part-time developper, I know that mem usage can grow very quickly when you a GUI (having the possibility to move a bar from top to bottom of the window for example!) I'm sure some people here are comparing usage on 32bits systems with usage on 64bits/32Bits with PAE, without knowing what it implies! nice post mate, its so futile, these topics... everybody uses the browser he can do the most with, and has things he wants in a browser. maxton+IE, great opera, great firefox, great <-- i use this coss of the nice favorite bar, not that firefox is better, its just suited for ME and all 3 are fast, if a warm start of ur browser takes 5sec, is slow, if its 3 or less, its fast... who cares about the 1.8 or the 2.4sec :/ and memmory usage, with 500mb who gives a ***** if it uses 70mb or 120mb :/ but fridge i do a lot of 3d modelling, i need ram yeh but u got 1gig of ram oh yeh thats true

Nearly all windows users use it, correct. But do all windows users use nLite? Nope. And of those people, I think half of them doesnt use ms office btw gdogg, the only reason you got a second windows is for minlogon... which can be copied there with 1 windows as well. Rename winlogon.exe to winlogonbackup.exe copy winlogonnew.exe to system32, rename winlogonnew.exe to winlogon.exe reboot

u ever read his guide? I think he has enough knowledge of it that his tests are accurate. Anyway I have at work a problem, the server administrator hasnt replied on my email yet. but it seems prefetching is broken on all pc's at the university. There is a prefetch folder with about 15files with it. But thats it, if u open new programs, it doesnt create more. If I delete everything inside the folder, then there arent new prefetch traces being made. Putting /prefetch:1 behind an app doesnt work, forcing the prefetcher on by means of: %windir%\system32\Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks doesnt work as well, although in the register it says the value is 3, so app & boot... got ideas?! Neverminddddd stupid task schedular was off, why would the system administrator do that "

No I meant that the system hardware is so fast, that in a full blown xp install, that even then prefetchin will be useless coss its so **** fast Just recieved the harddrive, the videocard will arrive in 7 days .. *sigh* Unless meant that bolds install is crippled, but he tested it on a full blown xp as well

u can try logging in as administrator, and check how to services are configured there screenshot it or something

Indeed bold, coss if u dont use this then: No prefetching service --> No task schedular --> no event log. And probably getting rid of all 3 things makes the overal boot 2 sec's faster . I'm getting my harddisk and x700 videocard soon for my test pc (pc for a m8 in belgium where me goin in 4 weeks). PC: DFI Lanparty nforce 4 Ultra D athlon 64 3500+ 1gig of memmory 300gb Sata disk x700 pro pci-express card I think thats so freakin powerfull that prefetch will do more damage then good

Anir's Windows Mouse Acceleration Fix Well, I just thick "direct input on" in games its the same. And dont have usb mouse so dont have to use anything else, imo all those things arent needed for FPS games

Under 200MB what? :S ISO? Mine's at ~135 or some such But I understand what you mean and I think you're right. The less you have to load in the bootup and the less programs you use after, the less Prefetch does for you. And yeah, I need those services started, or else I loose functionality with some things, I'm not after the smallest Windows possible, but the smallest I can get without loosing any functionality I can't be without. I could probably kill a few more, but I haven't really looked into it (got any tips you can share by just looking at what I have there?) I think my gaming system is more up to your standard and there I haven't planned on using Prefetch either, but for my workstation OS, I couldn't live without it. I do so much in that, as opposed to the Gaming OS where I only do one thing at a time. Installed 200mb, My iso was around 110mb

Still, with Prefetch turned off sure I won a second in boot time, but lost another when starting Firefox, which is just one of many programs I use daily, others are MSN Messenger, Foobar, Apache Server, Alcohol 120%, Thunderbird, Photoshop etc etc. And if that gain with Prefetch on is true for all those programs then I can't se any reason not to have it on. It does not just apply to the boot sequence. I'd say we need more and perhaps more precise tests before any real conclusion that works in most cases kan be drawn. Just five test each is to few to really smooth out the small differences in reaction from the tester etc. Someone with alot of time on their hands should run the test with 20-50 reboots with every option Btw, updated my previous post with my computers stats and Session.ini etc. Yeh but as I said, under the 200mb it aint nescesary, my firefox launches in 1sec. MSN and other similair programs etc all very fast as well 0.5-2sec. But I just have 8 serviceses on, u got like 15+. So if u have many stuff, it helps, if u got less stuff, ur better of without. I think I dont have to test this anymore, wot I will test is game start up performance. But wots that 2sec longer waiting for a game, while the level loading in bf2 for example takes 30sec.. then that 2sec is nothing.

With full version u get probably the result that prefetching needs to be on, and below 200mb, u get the result that it needs to be off... at least I think that will be.

Mastertech, you indeed have probably a whole gigantic start up load .. coss if ibis disables prefetch, he has 1sec speed profit.. and he prolly has quite a few systray apz as well.. I just have 1 systray app.. kaspersky thats it. Btw, I will have a test pc at work around monday/tuesday. So I will start testing then, n give results to nuhi so he maybe can build in some prefetch advice in nLite, coss afterall. nlite is about speed n stripping useless stuff.
