  1. Watch out for the crap ware that comes with msgplus...
  2. No You need a unit that can read your monitors output to get correct color.
  3. A seperate box that can olny be configured after being disconnected from the network, otherwise it becomes a brick. If you the user can install your firewall the hacker can disable it...
  4. Hard to beat the HP Presario Athlon64 3200. Ready for 64 bit XP! Can't get there on any Intel laptop...
  5. Use the "/R" switch instead of the /F switch with CHKDSK. /R implies fixing errors as well as recovery. The /F switch does not recover corrupt data.
  6. Where are your backups?
  7. Why would MSN hijack your copy of IE and not mine? You have other issues going on in the background.
  8. I appoligize for the rudeness but not my point. We live in a competive world. If I want my company to prevail over my competition. I sure as hell better give my employees the best tools on the market or my competition will eat my lunch. Running an 8 year old OS or older is just plain bad business. There is no excuss for that practice other than short sighted IT staff and dumb management. Oh please, not the "legacy apps" montra... That is because many companies just don't want to spend the money for newer hardware... the IT people run around with duct tape and bailing wire trying to keep it running. It works so it is ok. Win2K and Win XP resource hogs??? Please show me on decent hardware how that is possible... Take any two office workers and give one Win95 on old hardware and the other Win XP Pro on new hardware. I bet the one on the new OS does twice the work as the one with the old crap.It may indeed "work" but it is not the better tool in the long run. Sure, I could into a forest and cut a 150' tree down with a hand saw but I could cut a hell of alot more with a chainsaw! It really doesn't matter here if it is XP or a new Linux distro. Anybody who wants a sharp tool is going to want to install the latest version. I don't see many folks trying to install Linux from say 5 years ago because it works... And I don't see people trying to make Win98 their OS of choice because it uses less resources. The only issues and proven problems are users that don't know how to configure their OSes to work properly. User ignorance is not the fault of the OS.
  9. I also have a archive.pst, archivebackup.pst, and the outlook.ost on each machine.
  10. Why would the consideration of an 8 year old OS like Win98 even be practical? Actually I think you are clueless, despite being in the middle of a clue field covered in clue dust in the middle of clue mating season...
  11. I'm using Exchange 2003 with Outlook 2003 and I did not have to set up roaming profiles to access my email on any of my machines. I may be on machine A and delete mail or view new mail that has come in recently. If I go to machine B the changes that I made on machine A are reflected on machine B. The same applies to machines C and D. Exchanges handles the PST and the machines A through D just keep a local cache which is refreshed every 10 minutes.
  12. Yes, MCE 2005 runs on top of XP.
  13. Check your log files in Event Viewer. If there are issues there will be log entries either red or yellow. If everything is cool, then there will be no yellow or red entries...
  14. Do it in Group Policy...
  15. Stick it on a dual or quad Opteron. If you want fast boot up it has to be on fast hardware...
  16. ISA 2004 Spend the money... you won't be disappointed.
  17. You don't normally partition RAID arays.
  18. It runs at bootup because the "dirty bit" is marked. Run CHKDSK /R until it comes up clean with no issues. If you don't use the /R or /F switches it will run but fix and repair nothing... thus running every time you boot.
  19. You need another box running Win2K3 server and SQL...
  20. Get a copy of Live Communications Server...
  21. Right click on the folder they are sitting in. Select Properties and then Advanced. Simply uncheck the box marked "Compress files to save disk space."
  22. Just make the phone call... takes less than 10 minutes for the toll free call.
  23. No! Right click on your Outlook toolbar and check its properties... make sure you have the right toolbar selected.
  24. A mirror aray of two drives is only half the capacity of two drives. 2 200GB drives is only 200GB when mirrored. RAID5 3 200GB drives is only 400GB total. Add a 4th 200GB drive and you get 700GB of space.
  25. Application Compatability... Do some homework...
