  1. Bioshock 2 Sims 3 Battlefield Heroes HL-2 Episode 3 (hopefully!) Duke Nukem Forever (assuming someone else finishes it) StarCraft 2 as well as you The next Crysis game (maybe not soon) COD MW 2 There you go!
  2. All good there too. Graphics cards can again go up to the 80's while still running OK in most cases. Looks like your PC is running nice and cool B)
  3. Your right mate Just while I'm here, what does your graphics card run at when idle and load?
  4. Your fine then plenty of people have motherboards that run higher than 50C and go fine so you are safe B)
  5. Its not that bad really. 40C at idle for your motherboard is quite acceptable. If it does not go over twice that under load then it should be fine. Mine is running at 35C right now at idle and is definitely plenty stable. My CPU is at 30C. PC components can run very hot with 90C being the max for some parts.
  6. You need DDR PC-3200 clocked at 400MHz, but the maximum amount supported by your motherboard is 2GB. Did you mean to talk to the OP or me
  7. 1. You cannot buy another type of RAM as it won't fit. Must be DDR1 400Mhz (PC-3200) as your CPU needs RAM this fast. 2. You could probably keep the stick in there now. 3. Corsair, Crucial, OCZ, Kingston and Patriot are all good brands and I think they all made DDR1 before. BTW here: http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/4660/4660sp3.shtml It says: Memory (RAM) 1.0 GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM Expandable to 2.0 GB So I'm not sure on how much RAM really is supported on your PC.
  8. Good advice puntoMX On my Dell optiplex GX150 the three pin fan connector had a black socket around it to prevent non standard fans to be used but with some force I got it off to allow any three pin fan to work. If yours has one of these back sockets, that might help if you wanted to install an aftermarket cooler.
  9. however i have one of the worst/most annoying ISPs in Aus or i like to think of them as the worst isp in the universe 200Mbps!! i can only dream of speeds faster then my network connection speed Haha yep go Internode! Just been downloading the games from the orange box which I just purchased and all of it is unmetered baby Telstra truly do suck considering they are the main telecommunications company in Australia. Go with Internode, I have already got three people off Telstra and onto Internode and they love it! Been using it for three years EDIT: Yeah a little late but found some spelling mistakes while reading this post
  10. Looks like I can't buy it...I go to pay with paypal and when it comes up with a link to the paypal checkout and I click, nothing happens Any ideas? I think it may be that I don't have IE on my system cause I removed it with nLite EDIT: Don't worry, I went to the steam website in firefox (my main browser) and purchased it in there instead of in the steam program. It worked! Now I will slowly download the games, starting with Portal B) EDIT 2: I don't have to worry about my monthly download cap as Internode (my ISP) has its own Steam mirror which is unmetered for Internode users like myself Just got HL-2 Lost Coast and it looks great! Thanks for posting this or I would not have bought it and I have been wanting the Orange Box for a while!
  11. Sound big but not having to download at the same time is good...I only have a 10GB cap per month so yeah
  12. Hey this sounds sweet! How big is the download though? Or can you use a friends orange box disk then use the key when you buy the game on steam so you don't need to download it? Or doesn't the download version have a key?
  13. No, no, no! Can your laptop play crysis then??? Sure you never forget older games but you can't sit on them all the time. They get...old, fast if you know what I mean. Actually Prey is a good game that plenty of people play and it came out more than two years ago. COD 4 is still one of the most popular online games right now and came out about a year and a half ago. Not forgotten! And you can't say you will forget the newer games yet anyway as you can still remember them Didn't say it was about graphics. The gameplay of some new games is just amazing. Playing COD 4 and Bioshock is like watching a movie! EDIT: And awergh, I said ALL the UT series games. And I also recommended UT 2004. Just because the first one may be better does not mean you should not play 2004. If you only played the game you thought was the best, you would get bored pretty quick now wouldn't you?
  14. I have been running the PC in my sig for a few months now with a generic PSU with 10A on the 12V line. Surprisingly it works without any problems However, I would still get another PSU anyway as you may not get as lucky as me. I just got an Antec True Power 2.0 430W PSU and will install it in my PC ASAP as I want it as stable as possible and the true powers are QUIET!
  15. Yeah but that sorta defeats the purpose of running an old OS and playing old games in their original form...its good to go back and see what it was like And I loved playing doom 1 on a win 98 system I have lying around. So with win 95 it will be even more classic! But I may try your suggestions anyway as well as the original games.
  16. Thanks for that will give it a try ASAP.
  17. Haha I have been running with no CPU fan for a while. Got a heatsink from an old athlon XP 1700+ system (that died) which is twice the size as the stock intel one. Runs fine I have made it as cool as possible...installed a northbridge heatsink even though it didn't really need one, cleaned out every spec of dust, lubed the one fan in the system, got a large heatsink on the graphics card, taken out floppy drive to allow more air to come in etc. Just wanted to know if there was a program to tell me the temps I'm running so that when the weather is hot I can see how hot the CPU is getting! The HDD idles at well under 20C because of the design of the case (the one fan in the system being right next to the HDD) so that is ok. The mobo does not have a temperature sensor as far as I know so it looks like I'm outta luck. Oh well thanks anyways!
  18. Sounds great! Final version coming real soon so I won't bother downloading the RC. Probably will go on one of my older PCs to play around with
  19. That is awsome Been browsing for something that rhymes with corn and already infected yourself? Corn flicker-fight fire with fire, corn on corn action! LOL
  20. Hold on to them! If they stay in good condition, they may be worth something one day as some people would want to remember how OS's developed!
  21. Not sure if this should be in hardware or software hangout, but I have a 1000Mhz Pentium 3 EB socket 370 model on dell motherboard from an optiplex GX 150. Is there any program out there that can monitor my temps? Realtemp and hardware monitor don't work And the BIOS does not tell me anything at all. I wanna know the temps so I can see if it is actually running cool enough in the small desktop factor optiplex GX 150 with no GPU or CPU fan. Any help would be great, as I cannot find a program that tells me anything but the HDD temp. GPU temp would be good to know too
  22. Yes but I have never had any issues with my drivers. Or any of my LAN gamer friends who have nvidia drivers and play all night. Or anyone else I personally know actually. And you have only said purevideo is not an advantage. Not 'most' of the things on my list. What else is bad? Physx can't be either is CUDA, 3D Vision, Quadro FX, SLI etc. And like I said, I would still use ATI if I wanted crossfire or got a free 4870X2 EDIT: BTW purevideo ain't that bad: http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html...W50aHVzaWFzdA== "The Bottom Line Keep in mind these are Beta drivers and NVIDIA is working day and night to chase the bugs out. That said, the ForeWare v92.91 Beta driver and included PureVideo HD technology (To be released on 9/14/06 at nZone.) were extremely stable for me on all the systems we tested it on. There is fine tuning that needs to be done, but that is to be expected with Beta software. The HD DVD movie experience that I had on my PC was stellar and will actually make you wonder, “Just how much more detail do I want to see in Don Cheadle’s face?” " Hmm, these were old beta drivers on a geforce 7 and purevideo works "extremely stable for me on all the systems we tested it on". Or here: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2798&p=4 Where they took another early look and found CPU usage dropped by around 20% with beta drivers and an old geforce 7 with purevideo 1. EDIT 2: Looking around I can see ATI drivers are not as great as you make them out to be: http://forums.techgage.com/showthread.php?t=4500 http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3501&p=10 "In spite of the potential advantages offered by the Radeon 4870 X2, we have qualms about recommending it based on our experiences since October with the introduction of Core i7 and X58 and the multitude of software titles that were released. Driver support just isn't what it needs to be to really get behind an AMD single card dual-GPU solution right now. The issue is less about what's out now and more about support for titles as they come out and fast responses to issues (which AMD can't provide). The 8.12 hotfix (that is listed as only necessary with 4850 CrossFire) actually has improved stability and performance on all the single and dual setups we've tested on Core i7. We haven't finished putting it through its paces, but so far this one is a real step in the right direction. Unfortunately it will be months before we see this hotfix rolled into a WHQL driver. We definitely recommend this hotfix at least to anyone using AMD hardware on Vista x64 with a Core i7 platform." http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/...-gtx-285-1gb/17 "At that price, it’s hard to beat but one has to remember that driver support is what feeds that card’s success – in games where the Radeon HD 4870 X2 scales poorly, so will the Radeon HD 4850 X2. And what concerns us more about the card is how long it has taken to get official driver support from AMD – a two month leadtime doesn’t exactly fill us with confidence for the future when new games are released."
  23. Yes but the 4890 is louder than the 4850/70, still only runs as cool under load and hotter at idle as a quieter GTX 285 and is not as generally fast as a GTX 285. It would be better to compare it to a GTX 275 instead. Really, right now ati beats nvidia in value but nvidia beat ati in raw power. You gotta remember, the tables are always being turned. Nvidia have been in it pretty good though, as they also have Quadro FX, CUDA, Physx, 3D Vision, SLI (which came out before crossfire), ntune, telsla, good linux drivers, nicer looking website (hey, it all helps!), Purevideo, heck they even have an nvidia LAN party! And some pretty neat ads too (Geforce FX joke, nvidia priceless-look on youtube) Now, my favorite color is actually red, I have bought ATI cards before, my 9600GT has a red PCB and red plastic cover so it could be mistook for an ATI card, my motherboard has three graphics card slots but only supports crossfire and not SLI so if I had some more cash to spend on video cards I probably would buy two ATI cards and run crossfire. At least I am not 'all for ATI' like coffeefiend seems to be: "I moved to a nice Radeon and all the problems are solved! I wish I had never even bothered. No more nvidia garbage ever again, unless they're the very last manufacturer left and I have no choice at all. nvidia is also very well known for very poor drivers for other devices. I wouldn't want of a GTX 295 even if it was free." Now I would definitely take a HD 4870 X2 for free no problems! Even a 3870X2 And put it in my PC. And install ATI drivers. And probably really like it cause it was free I'm not saying ATI are garbage either. Just that if you analyzed them both very closely, you could pick heaps of bad things from both companies. I like nvidia a little better though as they seem more popular, have a better naming system (ATI went from 7500's and 9700's etc to x800's and x1500's etc now HD 3000's etc) have the extra things in their drivers like Physx which is more used than Havok, and also have a large range of professional products plus the other things I said earlier in my post. If nvidia was garbage, there would be many people who use telsla and quadro products that would be very angry, quickly I wish the OP would turn up and tell us what he is planning to do That would help a lot EDIT: BTW punto is that blueorb 2 cooler good? Quiet? I want something better than the stock cooler so I can OC past 3Ghz
  24. What has this got to do with it?
  25. Haha rammstein are great. If music from Germany can make it into CD stores in one of the lowest parts of the world (Tasmania, Australia) then they must be good. Love Du Hust!
