Haha this should be in the funny farm The DVD drive is the main speed factor while burning disks so on a PC you could have a x22 burner but on the mac maybe just a x8 burner. The PC would be a lot faster but it works either way round. You don't hear me saying macs can never get hacked or get viruses thats for sure!

I think so. Did a search for MSFN at school again and "calander" was not shown before MSFN Forums.
-
Exactly. But with me running firefox at school on a mac it has "calander - msfn forums" as the second link.

LG GH22NS50 Bluebirds Removal Tool
Zenskas replied to spiff's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Haha nice I have to do that. What does the bluebirds software actually do? -
Thats it. Look at the second link. It seems to happen on all the computers at school but not at home with me.

5-7 years is maturing to you? You would be lucky if anyone knows what windows 7 is by then XP SP1 did not take that long and the very mature SP2 came out way less than 5 years after XP's initial release. I would not advise waiting another few years to upgrade to windows vista. Since win 7 was built off vista (and backwards compatible with it) then in a few years win 7 will have a SP1 and be plenty ready for use with everyone. So skipping windows vista and going to windows 7 sounds a lot better than waiting longer for windows vista then even more time to then go to windows 7.

True but I think he is using the PC in his sig and just wants a new case and graphics card. Any single GPU will run on his current PSU so I reckon he will be holding onto his Corsair HX-620.

RAID 1 faster concurrent reads than RAID 0?
Zenskas replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
That sounds like a good way to go about it for people with multiple HDD's that don't want a PC resembling a file server with more than 4 drives Stuff that needs to go fast but does not need backups on two RAID 0 configured drives, and stuff that is important on two RAID 1 configured drives. -
Search "MSFN" in Google. Look at the second link. It is a link to MSFN forums but lately has been saying "MSFN Forums - Calander" or something like that instead of just "MSFN Forums" in the main title for the page in google. It didn't do it just then when I searched though, but it did earlier today.

Thanks for that. In CPU tests they have only seen something like 6% performance increase but HD videos run smoother as well (I watched a Youtube video comparison of playing back a 1080P video and the HE did a fair bit better job). I probably do not need bluetooth or wireless N though. I'm fairly sure the battery is actually better in the HE model. The H model has a 6600mAh battery VS the HE 8700mAh battery plus the keyboard of the HE is a fair bit better. I am still unsure though. I may not get either of them and wait for a newer chipset to be introduced in the EEE line-up which could increase performance etc.
-
Yes I would be upgrading it to 2GB straight away. 1000HAs are around $550 cheapest price here. The 1000HA has a slightly slower CPU, no bluetooth, no wireless n, and less battery life. Is it worth the $100 to get a HE model? How loud would you say it is? I don't like noise but its OK to be a slight hum.

Hello everybody, I am thinking of buying an Asus EEE PC 1000HE netbook and was wondering if anybody else has an opinion on it? I want it for wireless internet around the house, MS office 2003, watching movies, listening to music, playing older games (GBA emulation, Halo, UT 1999, far cry etc), downloading stuff and testing windows 7 out. I want something small and quiet while being cheap. Anybody know if this is a good choice? What about the MSI U100+? The MSI is similar but a little cheaper (and shorter battery life). I can get the Asus for around $650 here while the MSI is $620. I am leaning towards the Asus.

I do not know much about those cases but I do like Antec ones (if you read the opinions of case thread, you will see the gamer 900V2 and P180/2/3 are my wanted cases). As for graphics card, what games do you play and at what res? For 1680x1050 and below your 8800GT should be fine for max settings in just about all games. For a higher resolution, go for either a Radeon HD 4770, 4850, GeForce GTS 250 or GTX 260. Not sure about prices for these cards where you live, but in Australia you can get the HD 4770 and GTS 250 for $200 so you should be able to get it at that price any where else in the world! But like I said, your PC looks good to handle any game at a 22inch monitor res right now.

I have no personal experience but have heard many good things. Read a few reviews and look at the features it has.

In the screenshots you posted the temperatures looked fine so I do not know why the heatsink is so hot. Does your heatsinks get that hot puntoMX?

XP is pretty good even not stripped down. XP stripped down is awesome!!! Running an nLited install of XP on all my main PC's and I have a P3 beast which has only a 1Ghz CPU, slow 40GB IDE HDD and 512MB PC133 RAM but boots up in under 35 seconds I use it to watch movies and play old games mainly. I want to get win 2K actually as I do not have an install CD and would not mind trying it out on one of my own PC's just to increase my knowledge of computers further.

Working with unresponsive computers at work
Zenskas replied to iceangel89's topic in General Discussion
I second that. Yes it probably needs a reformat but I always recommend a good clean first as it is possible to get the PC back like new if enough cleaning is done. (basically redoing everything-update drivers and patch system, virus scan, clean off everything not needed etc) Can take a while but I know my PC runs exactly the same as it did half a year ago because it is regularly maintained. But I doubt it is the network in the country that is at fault. Maybe the clients network setup but not the whole countries. -
Does frequent formatting/defrag spoil HDD?
Zenskas replied to iceangel89's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Exactly. You have to find the perfect time to defrag. Anybody know at what percentage of drive fragmentation should the drive be defragmentated? -
You could always try taking the northbridge heatsink off then cleaning off any thermal grease and reapplying it with something like arctic silver 5. Try an intake fan as well, that would help push the air faster.
-
The temps on your mobo look fine and are only a few degrees higher than mine (and I live in a cold part of the world) but I have dropped the voltage on my north and southbridge by 0.1V which you could try as well. If you really want you could cable tie a small fan to the northbridge That hot? Unsure why...try my suggestions in previous post.

Looks over function IMO (and even then, I don't find doors particularly attractive). Once you have a big heavy case (a good 30lbs right there), put a dozen (relatively heavy) hard drives in it, a big PSU (none of this 350W generic stuff that weighs 50 grams -- big transformers, big heat sinks and all), big coolers and everything else, wheels start to look very attractive (this PC likely weighs about 70lbs) Yeah could be useful for some (even my PC started to get heavy with a new PSU-in sig-and CPU cooler) but if I ever need to move it somewhere it is to a location out of my house to a LAN party or downstairs so it would need to be picked up anyway. I go fairly minimal with hardware in my PC (one optical, one HDD, integrated sound/LAN) to make it lighter and take up less space inside the PC and because I don't need more drives and integrated sound/LAN is fairly good on my mobo. I can see some people would need wheels on big heavy PC's though if just moving from room to room or along a desk etc.
-
Here is something you may find useful. I do not know if you can change gravity etc using this but have a look anyway.

Working with unresponsive computers at work
Zenskas replied to iceangel89's topic in General Discussion
Mate, sounds like the PC's at your work need a good clean. Virus scan, spyware scan, uninstall/delete stuff not needed, cclean (using ccleaner), then a disk defrag. -
Nice case BTW (wish I had one). How warm is the system temperature exactly?
-
Cheaper indeed. But a lot less place inside. Less cooling. Less extras e.g. no wheels and no PSU extensions like you often need on bottom mounted PSUs, one less port at the front (albeit minor), less drive bays (matters a lot to me -- one of the biggest factors actually)... Besides price, the only place where the 900 is nicer is the air filters. If anything, I'd want a couple more drive bays, a more plain looking case (no ugly side windows, no fans that light up, no weird looking plastic stuff) -- basically another CM Stacker 810. The Cosmos is probably the next best thing, but it's twice the price as a antec 900 indeed. Anyhow, there's many other options worth looking into. NZXT Whisper Silent perhaps. Or even the Antec 1200. Either ways, it's not for now. I got a pair of new LCDs to buy before that at least. I just think it looks neater with the front door as the case looks the same all over and you can use odd color drives and it won't detract from looks when the door is closed. The 900 has plenty enough cooling power for me and I don't reckon I will need wheels on my PC right now But I have heard it is a little small for some but I have never owned a large expensive case so its OK. Don't need any more than one optical drive bay and two HDD bays either so thats OK for me. But if I did have a lot of HDD's I would buy one of those big cases for sure.
