Which board did you end up buying? The DS4 or the UD3P? What are the temps of your motherboard? I know my DS4 runs pretty cool and so should the UD3P as it has lots of heatsinks around the board plus extra copper in the board itself. Some very minor amount of people still use those old connections but they are not on the I/O panel on the back so they stay out of the way anyway.

I don't mind front doors myself-I don't use my optical drive much (internet, external HDD's and USB sticks are my main data transport) and it makes the case look neat while blocking even more noise especially from the HDD's and front fans (you could always take the front door off i guess) But yeah the HAF and Cosmos are pretty darn good too. But if I was to get something awesome looking I would get an Antec 900V2 as it is fair bit cheaper than a HAF in my area. EDIT: Oh yeah I got a baby sister (19months old) so my PC seems to become a little quieter thanks to that

Look at my board. The video card takes up say three slots then there are two orange PCI-e slots for the LAN and sound. I have recommended something new and there is still space under the video card if it takes up three slots EDIT: And like I said, even the UD3P would work. One card in the black slot above the video card and the other card in the orange slot below.

I'm thinking about that too... Maybe a P182, maybe another CM, maybe the Norco, ... not 100% sure yet. Yes, and yes. (this post typed on a computer sitting in a CM stacker 810 as well -- the one without the dual PSUs though). It's a shame they don't sell them anymore. Yep I would probably get a P182 because I hate computer noise The gamer series are fairly quiet and the fans can be turned down in speed they are more open so lets the noise escape and the dust enter! What do you think about the P183? Looks a little weird? Ah yes Zxian's post was in the post pics and specs of your PC thread. Looks like a quality case B)

I don't see why you couldn't get your vid card and two other PCI-e cards in the UD3P. The video card can go in the blue slot, and if the sound and NIC cards are PCI-e x1 then they could go in the two black slots behind the video card. Or if one of the cards is a x4 PCI-e card then it could go in the orange slot (even if it was a x1 card it would go in the orange slot too). In fact, you could fit all of these cards in your current mobo if one of them is short. Shorter card in black slot behind video card (which takes up 3 slots) then the other card in the orange slot. Should fit if your cards are all PCI-e. EDIT: And if neither your sound card or NIC are short enough to fit behind the video card then my motherboard (GA-EP45-DS4) would work- video card in blue x16 slot (also taking over the two black PCI-e slots next to it), and then it has two orange PCI-e slots that work with any PCI-e card (your LAN and sound).

Does frequent formatting/defrag spoil HDD?
Zenskas replied to iceangel89's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
actually i dont mean when testing i defrag it also. just that sometimes when somethings fail. i may try to fix it in a new iso build and install it again. btw, will defragging b4 i create a image with say Acronis help in defragmentation? as in after the image is restored will be be defragmented or fragmented? what abt with imagex or some other imaging tool? I am not sure about that. Since all you would be doing is reimaging a drive I do not think it would then be fragmented. Any ideas people? -
Nice now you have a good amount of RAM I would say if it was a high quality 350W PSU then a 9600/9800GT would work and if you were to get the newer revision GTS 250 it may be OK (the new GTS 250 only has one 6 pin PCI-e connector verses two on the 9800GTX+ and uses a good amount less power). If you post a pic of the sticker on the power supply (or just say what brand and model it is) then it would be easier to tell you if a new card would work.

Yeah I got my PS2 from a friend really cheap but it was busted (made loud clicking noises and froze up lots in 80% of games) but I fixed it of course Cleaned the whole thing out then opened the optical drive and tightened the screw that holds the laser on the rail and bam! Worked perfectly If you didn't save your DLC then there are always heaps of third party mods that can keep you occupied!

Does frequent formatting/defrag spoil HDD?
Zenskas replied to iceangel89's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
I think this has been discussed before on this forum (whether defrag hurts drive) I would say while testing an ISO, once installed do not defrag every time you test one. And use quick format when installing windows. Remember that a defrag program will only defrag fragmented files (not the whole drive) and once defragged it can be easier on your drive as it takes less time to access files so in the long run is better. -
This sounds exactly like something a non-PC literate person would say. It would be like me saying that my bike tires are rated for a max of 60PSI and if I inflate them to 60PSI I am in danger of them blowing off the rim. If the laptop does not come with adequate cooling for 100% load situations then I wouldn't be buying from that company any time soon. Besides, nLite does not take all day to make an ISO file for an operating system and there are plenty of people that have computers that run at 100% load more often than not. Unless the manufacturer of your friends laptop has stated in the manual not to push the laptop to 100% load then I would say it is plenty safe (just tell your friend that a bunch of computer nerds told you that you would be safe to run nLite on his laptop ) EDIT: BTW in most cases if the laptop was made in the 21st century then if it started to overheat it would simply shut down causing no damage.

If you havent played Portal, TF2, and Halflife 2 yet...
Zenskas replied to PC_LOAD_LETTER's topic in Gamers Hangout
Wow man it cost me $10 for 8 games/expansions. Bet you can't play on VAC servers though can you? And the whole download was unmetered thanks to my ISP. Looks like I win. EDIT: Oops you have already been banned. Don't worry! -
[SOLVED] Weird problem when typing " and ' into computer
Zenskas replied to Zenskas's topic in Windows XP
Hi there, I do not have any accessibility options in my control panel as they were removed using nLite I just uninstalled the keyboard driver then restarted and it automatically reinstalled it but the problem still continues. Any other ideas??? -
Man thats a nice rack case there! Yeah I like the Antec ones the most too. I think my next case would be a p18x or one of the gamer cases. You don't see gigabyte cases much but I have seen an ad for them before and man did they look weird But I think they are good cases anyway B) I love the CM stacker 810 case too. Looks great and isn't it the case Zxian uses for his server? I think I have seen him soft mount a heap of HDD's using elastic in it in a thread

[SOLVED] Weird problem when typing " and ' into computer
Zenskas replied to Zenskas's topic in Windows XP
I'm not talking hardware config., I'm talking Language/keyboard options from the Control Panel. Accents: ...é,è,à,ù...ô,ï,... Ah I see. No it does not accent the letter after that. I can just type ' but it won't come up until I type another letter or press space (meaning if I want a space after the ' I have to press space twice). -

[SOLVED] Weird problem when typing " and ' into computer
Zenskas replied to Zenskas's topic in Windows XP
Accents?? I not quite with you there. Please explain EDIT: I do not have any special keyboard configuration that I know of and am using a MS wired keyboard 600. -
G'day everyone I'm not sure where this topic should go but I'm having a annoying little problem when I type on my PC. Whenever I go to type a (") or a (') (Remove the brackets) It does not get typed in instantly like every other key. I will push in (") but it will not be typed in until I type another letter or press space. I have used a different keyboard (USB) but the problem continues. It is only for the one key. The (") and (') button. If I plug the keyboard into another USB port the problem still continues. Any advice would be appreciated as this has been going on for some time. The OS has been nLited but I don't think that would have done it. Specs for my PC in sig.

Nice like the what are you listening to ATM thread! Your playing some pretty old games there but as for me I just got TES4:Oblivion and will be playing that soon just so I can get all the mods and make it look way better than the Xbox 360 version And for comparison to Quake 3 I am playing UT1 and UT3. As well as CS:S and COD4. Oh and I recently bought myself a copy of Crysis Warhead Still using the old PS2 eh? SAME!!! But I really don't play it much at all...

I will be upgrading from Windows XP. I may however wait until SP1 comes out then upgrade (look at all the improvements SP1 did for XP and Vista) however when I think about it RC1 could be good enough to be gold so the actual gold version may be like a SP1 for RC1

Hey there, as long as you have the latest NVIDIA drivers you are plenty safe. Never had an issue in 7+months of use (I upgrade my drivers every time a new one comes out and never have issues) and have just recently overclocked my 9600GT to be about 10%-15% faster than stock (about as fast as a 9800GT but for no extra cost). The only 9xxx card that has been re branded to a 2xx card is the GTS 250 (was a 9800GTX+) but since the newer version of the GTS 250 uses less power, runs even cooler and has a shorter PCB, I would say it is not exactly the same So I am not sure what you are saying puntoMX "The nVidia 9xxx are mostly renamed to a 2xx series by now" It bugs me when people complain about drivers on the internet yet the problems usually lie elsewhere. I have never seen a problem with the NVIDIA drivers on any PC I have built with an NVIDIA card once. I also have a friend with a 9600GT and another friend with a 9800GT and they are very happy with them. Will play mostly any game on max settings on a 22inch monitor (maybe not crysis!). I don't just recommend NVIDIA cards though and if you can afford it a 4850 would be perfect for any game (as long as you can get one cheaper the a GTX 260, or it is bad value). The rest of your system would probably be a bit of a bottle-neck if you did get anything better than a 9800GT though (although upgrading the RAM will definitely help a lot) PuntoMX's advice on not using the stock cooler with the latest ATI cards is good as they run very hot! As for NVIDIA cards the stock coolers on the current cards do plenty good enough and you can run a 9600GT with no fan at all when idle. The fan on my 9600GT runs at 25% of full speed at idle (with temps between just 35-40C) and only 50% of full speed at load (with temps never going above 60C!)

Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope FINAL
Zenskas replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Other Operating Systems
Cheers will do. I think my ISP has an unmetered download for Ubuntu somewhere -
What do you mean by this? I have a dual-core CPU and it will work with any version of XP. XP License counts cores? EDIT: And if you mean cluberti is making a mistake then you are wrong. My PC will run just as fast with XP Pro as it will with XP Home in any CPU benchmarks. EDIT 2: So pointertovoid how come I have a PC lying around with two cores on the one socket running Windows XP HOME and can fully use both cores without the need for another license??? Please just believe it. Please.

Yes I have seen Win 98 on POS PC's still and its all that is needed in a lot of cases. Or Windows 2000. that what I thought when I first read POS. But I'm pretty quick to realize what its really about

That PC your friend went and bought was way overkill for the program she will be running. That salesman is just out to make cash and probably did not ask her exactly what she wanted to do with the PC. A 640GB HDD and 6GB RAM? WTH!!! And a blue ray drive? Yeah I'm sure it will be used for watching heaps of HD movies EDIT: jaclaz that tiny box is more like it! I want one! A 1.6Ghz CPU and 1GB RAM should do the job. 8W power consumtion at full CPU load. WOW!
